He has the perfect job, he is for the most part feared and respected, and his minions jump to his every whim. After 6,000 years he is invited back to heaven, and he goes - expecting to return to his place beside God as Lucifer, the Angel of Light. But when it turns out the invitation is not for the expected welcome home, but is rather for Christ's Second Coming-out party, things quickly go to hell. Worse, his former girlfriend is now partnering with the biggest douche-bag in Heaven. Satan decides he misses the place anyway, and wants back in. So he decides he needs to find a way to re-earn God's respect in order to be welcomed back.  Archangel Michael: As a Foil to Satan, Michael is portrayed as the loyal son and Embodiment of Virtue. This doesn't make him likable, as he spends the entire story waiting for the opportunity to kick Satan out and micromanages his girlfriend's actions to keep her "virtuous" too.

 God and Satan Are Both Jerks: Satan is a loser with poor-impulse control who fruitlessly pines to return to Heaven and cancels the Second Coming by getting Jesus kicked out of Heaven and God put up a front as an affable guy, but is actually a condescending prick that claims the moral high-ground over everyone, often changing the subject before anyone can properly hold him to this. They both learn to be better, though.

 The Devil Is a Loser: The film begins with Satan binging on junk food and reluctantly doing business on his couch. In Heaven, he is shunned by everyone and ignored. When Satan finds out that the Second Coming means redemption and admittance into Heaven, God deflates these hopes and tells him that that won't happen.
