Alternate Continuity | |
Kamen Rider Ryuki: Episode Final / int_450c5a85 | comment |
Alternate Continuity: This movie is one of the three different continuities of Kamen Rider Ryuki, the others being the 13 Riders TV special and the TV series itself. While certain elements in the movie would indicate that this is meant to be an alternate to the last 4 episodes (the presence of Survive Form and Raydragoonsnote which appear in episode 48 of the series proper; Ryuki, Knight, Zolda, and Ouja being the only Kamen Riders presentnote not counting Verde, who is exclusive to the 13 Riders special, and Femme and Ryuga, who are exclusive to this movie), as noted below, due to Toshiki Inoue writing the movie instead of Yasuko Kobayashi (who was the head writer of the series proper), there's a fair amount of snarls in the continuity.

Bolivian Army Ending | |
Kamen Rider Ryuki: Episode Final / int_79a0e313 | comment |
Bolivian Army Ending: The movie ends with Yui dead and Knight and Ryuki as the last remaining Riders facing down an army of Hydragoon dragonflies intent on wiping out all of humanity. (As a footnote, the ending of the TV series proves that both the ending of the movie and the "13 Riders" special go on to be Reset Button Endings.) As for the likely outcome, this ending is survivable, as mass-produced monsters tend to not be that tough, though this was the biggest crowd of them we'd seen. As for 13 Riders...all the Riders were setting up their "final vent" attacks, so even with Survive Mode, Shinji was pretty much screwed.

Continuity Snarl | |
Kamen Rider Ryuki: Episode Final / int_df582b0b | comment |
Continuity Snarl: As par for the course regarding summer movies not written by the head writer, there's a few factors that prevent this from taking place in the main series continuity - although a fair amount of the differences between the film's ending and the ending of the TV series could be explained away by the film happening during one of Odin's Time Vents (as the ending to the TV series is explicitly stated to be the final one)note were this to be canon, it would take place after Episode 46, as evident by Ryuki, Knight, Zolda, and Ouja being the only riders in the TV series to be present during this movie; as all the other riders that died in the TV series were dead by episode 46, it can't take place before, the following prevent it from lining up with the series canon: Shuichi Kitaoka/Zolda is allowed to retire from the Rider War, despite the fact that earlier in the series, Mitsuru Sano/Imperer was not allowed to do the same thing, despite his wish being granted (and he is still dead in the movie, implying that said rule is still in place). On top of that, Shuichi is shown to be in much better health at this point than he was during the series, where he died due to his poor health, and Goro had to take over as Zolda. Although the reason may be that Magnugiga, Zolda's Contract Monster, cannot move at all, preventing him to hunt and eat Shuichi after he retired. Shinji and Yui never met prior to the events of the series, meaning that Ryuga cannot exist in the series proper; yet in this film, Shinji and Yui meeting as children is what caused Shinji's reflection to eventually rebel. Survive mode is shown as a preview, yet in reality, had the form been available beforehand, Shinji and Ren would've used it much earlier (at the very least, Shinji would've used it in his fight against Ryuga). Admittedly, this problem isn't exclusive to this movie - Paradise Lost and Missing Ace (both also written by Inoue) both have a similar "preview mode" for the final forms of their main riders, but it's at least somewhat justified in those filmsnote in Faiz, Blaster Mode is accessed using an entirely separate device that Takumi doesn't have until near the end; as for Blade, King Form can only be accessed using the Evolution King card, which is unsealed for most of the movie; not to mention that both endings were explicitly written as alternate endings for their series. Here, Shinji is never shown obtaining the Survive card, meaning that he obtained it prior to the movie. Odin is completely absent from the movie, despite the fact that he is stated to be the final rider that must be fought. Realistically, the movie would've ended with Shinji and Ren fighting him, as opposed to the swarm of Hydradragoon butterfliesnote and given that Shinji and Ren did fight him together in the series proper, this can't be written off as more than 1 rider being active. In the film, Mirror Yui gave her life to the real Yui, whereas in the show proper, Mirror Yui was a creation of Shiro Kanzani's will. As he was not around for the creation of Mirror Yui in the film, he is simply fighting for her as a big brother. Ren's motive, to save his girlfriend, is not mentioned in the film at all. Presumably, if this film did happen during one of Odin's time vents, the following happened off-screen that didn't happen in the TV series: Odin stayed dead after being defeated the second timenote assuming that Verde doesn't exist in this timeline, that would mean there had been 13 riders in this timeline, Goro never became the second Zolda, Shuichi's health did not deteriorate as much as it did in the show, and Survive mode was only given to Shinji and Ren under the condition that it was only to be used under certain circumstances. However, that would still leave the elements involving Yui unaccounted for (as Shinji would have mentioned meeting Yui beforehand in the TV series).
