Domestic Abuse: The movie provides a textbook example of an abusive relationship. Elizabeth's relationship with Mark starts off sweet and innocent before he becomes possessive, controlling, and physically violent towards her. It only gets worse when he threatens to pull a Murder-Suicide after she breaks up with him and gets a restraining order against him.
