The 1986 movie Something Special (also known as Willy/Milly) tells the story of a girl who wonders what it would be like to be a boy, then gets the opportunity to find out. The movie was obscure, and has several names. It was initially given the working title Willy Nilly. Then it was slowly released across the US theater by theater in 1986, first as Willy/Milly, then I Was A Teenage Boy, then finally settling in on Something Special, which it stayed at for its 1987 run. It's 1987 VHS release was also as Something Special.Milly is a 14 year old tomboy who is tired of her mother trying to force her behavior more feminine. She wishes she was a boy, and her brother Malcolm gives her a spell to change her sex. She uses it and transforms into a boy overnight. Though her mother isn't pleased, her father encourages her to explore her masculinity. She is transferred to a new school as a boy "Willy" where she initially enjoys her new sex. Unfortunately, over time she figures out that life isn't all that much easier as a boy and wishes she was a girl again. Her brother comes through once more, this time with a magical wishing stone. Willy wishes on the stone and becomes Milly again. | |
