Advertisement:propertag.cmd.push(function() { proper_display('tvtropes_mobile_ad_1'); })Spiral (also known as Spiral: From the Book of Saw) is an upcoming horror film and the ninth entry in the Saw franchise. Director Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II, III, IV) returns to the franchise with writers Josh Stolberg and Peter Goldfinger from the previous entry returning to pen the script. The film stars Chris Rock, Samuel L. Jackson, Max Minghella, and Marisol Nicholis.Spiral tells the story of detective Zeke Banks (Rock) and his partner William Schenk (Minghella) as they begin investigating a string of grisly murders committed by someone who’s specifically targeting police officers. The deeper the detectives get into the mystery of who’s murdering their colleagues, it becomes clear that the killer’s styled themselves after the original Jigsaw killer, meaning that their horrific actions are all likely motivated out of a sick desire to enact some sort of justice.Advertisement:propertag.cmd.push(function() { proper_display('tvtropes_mobile_ad_2'); })The film was set to be released on May 15, 2020, but has been delayed indefinitely due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. On May 1st of that year, it was given a new date of May 21, 2021.Not to be confused with the Junji Ito horror manga Uzumaki (Eng.: Spiral)Previews: Teaser

Mythology Gag: At the end of the trailer, Zeke finds himself handcuffed to a pipe, with nothing but a handsaw to free him, calling back to the original film.

Oddly Named Sequel 2: Electric Boogaloo: This is the first film in the Saw franchise not to include the word "Saw" in the main title. Like the other post-VI sequels, it also lacks roman numerals.
