They've returned to the paper route, and Jack's arm will be out of its cast soon. Still, it's so hard to believe the mortal danger they were in.Then they've been informed that they will be moving to Bowmanville, Ontario, because their mom got a new job at Camp 30 as Colonel Armstrong's new administrative assistant. Apparently Bill's team intercepted a coded message revealing that the boys now have Nazi assassins on their tail, so they needed a change of scenery to keep them safe.The boys soon find themselves with a new job as well: delivering mail to the prisoners in the camp, which they discover is practically a five-star resort for the prisoners (which is apparently done to discourage them from trying to escape, even though the prisoners are duty-bound to attempt). While there, they meet and befriend a German soldier named Otto Kretschmer, who becomes very chummy with them.  Great Escape: The German prisoners have a plan for one. They dug an underground passage in one of the buildings, through which Otto and three others would escape. Some time later, 300 more soldiers would follow.

 Gilded Cage: Camp 30 is pretty much this. The prisoners are allowed total freedom of movement, eat food that's rationed everywhere else for the war effort, and can even leave the prison unattended if they want because they promise to return. Of course, they still recognize that it's a prison, just a really luxurious one. Otto even outright calls it a "gilded cage".
