Surrender Your Sons is a Young Adult thriller novel published in 2020 by author Adam Sass. This is his first novel.Connor Major has recently come out to his ultra-religious mother, but her response is far from supportive. His mother takes drastic action, arranging for him to be "kidnapped" and taken to Nightlight, a conversion therapy camp in Costa Rica, with the goal of "fixing" her gay son.Once at the camp, Connor quickly realizes that he and the other queer kids are not safe, and he becomes embroiled in a sinister conspiracy that has been going on for decades. As he uncovers the truth, he must work to bring it to light and free his fellow LGBTQ campers and bring them home.Spoilers are marked, but as this novel is a thriller, it's recommended to not read this page until after you finished reading the book. Later, when Stanley is invited to Ricky's commitment ceremony, he brings Bill along in a misguided attempt to stop the event. Afterward, fueled by homophobia and alcohol, Bill commits a heinous act, killing Ricky's husband and leaving Ricky paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life. Stanley and Bill flee with the help of the Nightlight camp, but Stanley, still resentful of his father and unforgiving of Bill's actions, takes matters into his own hands. He kills his own father, hoping to force Bill into a Mortons Folk situation, where he would be unable to seek help without incriminating himself. | |

Drew was murdered at camp, and his murderer Reverend Packard was killed by Bill, ending their sordid family story on a bad note. Worse yet, a Nightlight "truther-ism" campaign starts up online, something that Connor's mother gets sucked into, and she disowns Connor, after she claims he ruined her life and calls him a murderer. On the positive side, Connor is now thriving due to being away from his toxic mother and seeking help, he's in a relationship with Marcos, and he and Ario are on good terms. Most of the other kids that escaped are doing much better and are out and proud at home, and Connor now wants to team up with the FBI to find the Nightlight camps and end conversion therapy once and for all. | |
