Advertisement:propertag.cmd.push(function() { proper_display('tvtropes_mobile_ad_1'); })When a player has been playing tabletop wargames or building model kits for a while, they will eventually accumulate collections of unused model parts, old toys, parts of display models, pieces of junk, and other things that remain from previous modeling projects.
Few gamers will actually throw all this stuff away, and will instead put it all in a box or drawer for future use. Y'know, just in case. This is known as a Bitz Box. Even when it's a collection of boxes, bags, piles, filing cabinets, cupboards, and so forth.
The phrase comes from Warhammer 40,000 and, like a surprising amount of player jargon, is derived from the Orkz. In this case, the parts and junk a Big Mek uses in his work. Well-known tournament player Jason Enos first suggested this to Games Workshops Ork supremo Adrian Wood and from there it passed into legend.

It also sounds better for gamers to talk about their bitz than for them to stand around discussing their junk.
Model makers outside the tabletop gaming world, such as Airfix kits or model railway layouts, generally use a more pedestrian term like "spares bin" or "scraps box", but the idea is the same.
Wicked Toymakers are especially prone to have a spare bin.
Compare with Scavenged Punk.

Final Fantasy XIV: Crafting is one of the game's mechanics; as such, players are sure to overtime accumulate crafting materials of varying quality. Selling it all is not advisable as some materials are difficult to acquire while others are more valuable than the crafted objects. So, they just throw the spare stuff into their retainers, effectively turning it into a bitz box.

Dungeons & Dragons: It's not infrequent for Game Masters to include spare bitz from basically anywhere as usable objects with all kinds of effects, especially in homebrew campaigns. From rubber ducks that turn bodies of water into warm, soapy baths to rocks picked from the road that make you float — you can read funny examples in this Reddit thread.

Toy Story: Wicked Toymaker Sid has turned his bedroom into one, giant Bitz Box. He gets his spare parts from his toys and resembles them as he sees fit for his play-pretend games. Nothing out of the ordinary if not for the fact the toys are sentient, which makes this hobby of his quite horrifying. Later, it's exploited by the toys themselves to accomplish all sorts of tasks — like using one toy's added fishing rod to swing a second toy so it can ring the doorbell. It Makes Sense in Context.

Warhammer 40,000: The Trope Namer. Ork armies are a great way to clear out the techy-looking stuff from one's Bitz Box, as they love welding gubbins onto their machines more or less at random because it looks cool. Some players believe that you have achieved true "orkiness" when pouring glue into the bitz box and shaking it out creates a functional model, or perhaps more realistically when you can create a new vehicle from the bitz box alone.

Brikwars: Justified since its entire premise is "Warhammer meets LEGO". Yes, the game provides premade kits but it also supports (even encourages) the use of any toys and spare parts the player might have laying around. It's also quite fit for Miniatures Conversions; whatever the player's imagination comes up with.
