Advertisement:propertag.cmd.push(function() { proper_display('tvtropes_content_3'); })In most cases, a franchise gets so popular that a theme park ride would be made to cash in on the success of it. An inversion of it, albeit less common, would be to do a work based on a wildly-popular ride or attraction, either to expound or flesh out the backstory created for the original ride it was based on, or just to give additional material for fans to have a sort of "thrill ride" at home or in a theatre. Depending on the film and/or how the adaptation was produced, it could be met with critical acclaim, or be just as panned as a typical video game movie. |

Tower of Terror is perhaps the Trope Maker and something of a seminal example, as the producers considered this Made-for-TV Movie a test to see if film adaptations of rides would be be a hit amongst audiences. A feature film remake of Tower of Terror is reported to be in the works. The TV film can be considered to be either a Serial Numbers Filed Off or Divorced Installment based off of the original attraction as there are no direct references to The Twilight Zone in the film. Only the mythos of the ride is included.

Mission to Mars would later be followed by the 2002 musical The Country Bears, and like the film before it, Country Bears was released to generally negative reviews.

The first theatrically-released Disney example is Mission to Mars, though the ride of that name closed many years before the movie was made.
