Ever heard of a little phrase called "standard of living"? Don't know what that means? Well, it means that someone likes to live a certain way and is uncomfortable when a potential place to stay does not meet their requirements. Some people like to live an elitist life if they have a highbrow mentality, some people like things in any place to be at a certain arrangement, most likely due to having OCD, some people's standard of living might be on account of their culture and therefore feel that deviating from those standards would be insulting to said culture. Others just find minor faults like a house's height, structure, or any other variant that clashes with their needs, which overlaps First World Problems, or they're just too lazy to adapt to an environment that requires them not to half-ass living in it. In any sense, this is a person who is very picky about how they live. In most cases, the person in question may have to lower their standards when they are in no position to be picky, likely due to financial troubles or having no authority over the household. This can often be a source of comedy as the one who has too-high standards ends up going through comedic discomfort when having to stay in a place that they find to be below them. |

The season 16 premiere of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia has a shocking twist: there's been a spacious spare bedroom in Charlie and Frank's apartment since the day they moved in, along with a fully functioning bathroom that Charlie's been using as a closet. When Frank gets upset and plans to move into the newly discovered bedroom, Charlie reveals that he always knew about the extra space — he just prefers their current arrangement (which involves them sleeping on a pullout couch together) since it's easier for him.

American Dad!: Stan's adoptive parents-in-law are every bit of Asian stereotypes as you can get and as such, they want to live like traditional Asians. So, in "Big Trouble in Little Langley", when they visit the Smith home, Francine makes the house as Asian as possible to accommodate her adopted parents (such as making the dinner table very low and putting up Asian motifs), much to Stan's displeasure.

Will & Grace: The first season reveals that Will is extremely fussy about his living arrangements, which causes friction when Grace moves in with him. While it's mostly Played for Laughs, later dialogue from Jack reveals a darker side to the situation—Will's inflexibility and refusal to compromise was a major reason why his long-term boyfriend Michael broke up with him.

In The Haunted Mansion (2003), one of Jim's clients seen at the movie's beginning is shown to be this. He is dissatisfied with a potential home due to it being understocked with outlets and mentions that a previous home Jim showed him, while filled with outlets, had high steps and he was worried that he and his wife would trip if they aged. His wife manages to strongarm him into accepting the current home though. This instance provides the page quote.

Frasier: Both the title character and Niles are very picky about living the high life. One episode showed that Niles is forced to lower his standards when his ex-wife Maris freezes all of his financial accounts and he spends a small portion of the 6th season living in a low-class yet sustainable studio apartment called The Shangri-La until his divorce is resolved and he can afford to live in his apartment, the luxurious Montana, once more. Notably, when their dad Martin calls The Shangri-La "his kind of place", Niles begins wailing and demands they get him "out of this hell hole!"

An episode of Friends had Rachel express displeasure about moving into Chandler and Joey's apartment and them moving into her and Monica's due to losing a wager as she considers it an apartment made for boys. A few episodes down the line, she and Monica manage to switch back when the boys went out to see a ball game and they get Chandler and Joey to cooperate by kissing each other (which is done offscreen).
