Somebody can lay into someone else whenever they behave in a way that doesn't suit them well; like a parent to their children, a friend to another friend, a teacher to a student, and so on. However, what if someone were read the riot act by a random stranger who ends up just as annoyed with that person as much as people who know that individual on a personal level? Yep, any random person can reprimand another whenever they get annoyed with them and confront them about something whenever people who are close to the annoying one doesn't. The person being scolded can react in many ways, either they ignore them due to not even knowing the scolder, they throw tantrums at this passerby yelling at them or they wise up and hear out the stranger and see where they went wrong. Sub-Trope to "Reason You Suck" Speech as the stranger is giving one to someone who is acting offensive. Also compared to Corrective Lecture and Devastating Remark, both of which can be given to an offending people by someone they know. |

Hank just rocks the boat when he reacts defensively to it. One of the later episodes had a building inspector get on Dale's case for building a shoddy watch tower, which Dale admits he only made it that way to circumvent the standards of the zoning board when they repeatedly turned down his proposal to build the tower. |

Avatar: The Last Airbender: In "The Storm", when an old man discovers Aang is the Avatar, he scolds Aang for vanishing when the world needed him, accusing him of turning his back on purpose. This causes Aang to run off and Katara to run after him, prompting Aang to reveal to Katara that he did run away — the pressures of being the Avatar got to be too much, so he flew off on Appa, only to get stuck in a bad storm that triggered the Avatar state, freezing him in ice for a hundred years. Katara absolves him, knowing he never meant for things to happen as they did and that if he hadn't run away he might have been killed with all the other airbenders during Sozin's Comet. The Brittas Empire: Brittas' obnoxious behavior is enough that any poor stranger who spends even a short amount of time will end up criticizing him. Case in point: "Set In Concrete", where Graham Hanson, a man who Brittas takes into the center to look into solutions to an assumed case of Sick Building Syndrome, realizes that the real issue is Brittas' attitude towards others, leading to amongst other things the destruction of his prized pen and computer. "The Disappearing Act" features an example of a stranger - in this case Julie's previously unknown brother-in-law Roger - insulting the whole staff when their shenanigans lead to his daughter being sent on a train bound for France. |

SpongeBob SquarePants: This is somewhat of a Running Gag as whenever the main characters annoy a random fish with their quirky personality, don't expect that fish to take it hands down. A rather unjust example happens in "Pizza Delivery" when SpongeBob is yelled at by a customer to whom he delivered a Krusty Krab-made pizza because he neglected to provide a beverage that the customer didn't even order. What makes this unjust is that throughout the episode, SpongeBob was protecting the pizza for the customer's sake, and having his efforts be rejected like that ended up cutting him deep. |
