Zzzzz... zzzzz... zzzzz... GAH! OH NO, I FORGOT THE TICKETS!! Oh! Um... I mean... Describe Waking Non-Sequitur Here. Alice is in a coma, is sleeping or is otherwise unconscious. Upon waking, a non sequitur bursts from her lips. There's a chance that she mistakes the closest person as someone else during such. The obvious implication is that the character was having a dream at the time, and since they haven't fully woken up yet, they haven't yet realized that it was in fact a dream. Compare Talking in Your Sleep and Noodle Implements (when the outburst is implied to relate to a dream). The inverse is Non Sequitur, *Thud*, where a character says something random just before going down for the count. Can overlap with Un-Paused. Not to be confused with a Walking Non Sequitur who just talks like this all the time. If the non-sequitur is said while snapping out of a fantasy rather than a dream, it's Acting Out a Daydream. |

A late episode of That '70s Show had Donna shout "Don't kill them, Santa! Please don't kill them!" when she woke up. This is also a rare example where we actually get the context: Donna had a dream where Santa Claus gave her some advice, and when she said "Thanks, Santa! And to think people say you aren't real," he angrily growled "Who says that?! I'll kill the little bastards!" before performing a Verbal Backspace.

The Simpsons: In "So It's Come to This: A Simpsons Clip Show", Grandpa Simpson claims he slips into and out of comas all the time, then promptly falls asleep on his feet. He awakens just as suddenly, muttering "French toast, please!" Bart, in the "Bartificial Intelligence" segment of "Treehouse of Horror XVI" episode, shouts "COWA--" just before knocking himself into a coma. After a Catapult Wake-up, he cries "--BUNGA!" The fifth season episode "Marge on the Lam" featured lawyer Lionel Hutz babysitting the Simpson kids. When Bart and Lisa wake him from a nap, he immediately jumps up waving a switchblade, screaming "Don't touch my stuff!" After realizing where he is, Hutz calms down, saying "Hey, this isn't the YMCA..." |

I 'gree with Sirius!" The first book has another example: When Hagrid comes to the hut on the rock to pick up Harry, he announces his presence with loud knocks. Dudley is startled awake. "Where's the cannon?" J. K. Rowling likes this trope. It happens to Ron a few times too; for example when Harry shakes him awake in one scene he randomly shouts something about Quidditch fouls. |

Total Drama: A few characters don't wake up well from their injuries. In "Suckers Punched", after Scott is mostly knocked out by Fang, Gwen helps carry him away from the ring. She wonders aloud if Scott ever washes his feet and in a semi-lucid moment Scott answers, "You cannin' the toe jam already, Cletus?" After being beaten up by Fang in "The Bold And The Booty-Ful", Scott wearily asks his grandmama if it's time for his bath when Mal picks him up. With the Flush of Shame in mind, Mal answers affirmatively. Later, when Mal brings Scott back to the campsite, the still heavily dazed Scott goes for another family-oriented ramble when he tells pappy that he would've retrieved the shiny rock if only the sea-pig hadn't eaten it. |

Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory does this often: In an episode, Sheldon is woken up in the middle of the night and immediately yells "DANGER! DANGER!" From another episode: When the gang must spend a whole night gluing felt flowers and singing tunes to keep the assembly line going, Penny notices Sheldon has dozed off. Upon waking him up, he starts singing "Sixteen Tons", most likely a song the rest of them were singing when he fell asleep. |

The Order of the Stick: Elan, after being stabbed by Nale and healed by Belkar from the brink of death, mumbles "Mommy... I don't wanna go to school today..." When Redcloak hits Hinjo with a Disintegrate spell, it's enough to knock him out but not kill him. When he's healed, he wakes up mumbling, "I'm sorry, Uncle, I'll never take a drink from your private stash again..." Probably related to the fact that his uncle Shojo apparently has a taste for Dwarven brandy. Which happens to double as a high explosive. Blackwing (V's raven familiar), after being hit by a trap, wakes up in "The Pit of Despair".note It's not completely nonsensical if you're familiar with the Nursery Rhyme Sing a Song of Sixpence, which features a reference to "Four and Twenty [meaning 24] Blackbirds baked in a pie" — Blackwing + 23 friends = 24 blackbirds. Haley, shortly after being stunned by a psychic attack. In, "Area of Effect", after Minrah was put to sleep by a Beholder, she gets woken up by Bloodfeast biting her hand, leading to this: |

Subverted in Singles; when Cliff and Linda get into a car accident that ends up causing her Convenient Miscarriage, they both have to go to the hospital. Linda, coming out of it, mutters, "James" a couple of times, which confuses Steve, until she continues, "James Worthy is a star. X is just a player", which isn't a non-sequitur, as it refers to a discussion she and Steve were having before the crash.

M*A*S*H: In an episode, Radar tries to wake up Klinger, who mutters, "Ma, I don't wanna go to school today, I've got a headache." Radar identifies himself, to which Klinger replies, "Radar, I don't wanna go to school today!" In another episode, Major Burns is trying to wake Radar to begin the morning assembly. While still asleep Radar appears to think he is back on his family farm in Iowa by saying "Yes Ma, feed the chickens and slop the pigs Sooey!" An assumption of this leads to the entire plot of the episode. Radar asks Klinger where Margaret Houlihan is, and despite his grogginess, he gives a relatively accurate, if imprecise, answer. But he's so out of it that Radar assumes his answer (which doesn't quite make sense with the information Radar has) is one of these and irrelevant to the question, especially given that he then blurts out another non-sequitur ("let's get back in the front seat, here come the cops") and immediately goes back to sleep. (It does beg the question of why no-one thought to question Klinger again after he woke up.) In a late season episode, the 4077th has run of anesthetic gas for the patients so they resort to old fashioned ether to knock the patients out. At one point, Major Houlihan faints dead away from all of the fumes and the doctors have to revive her. When she begins to come around she starts trying to push the oxygen mask away while muttering "Keep your hands to yourself, general." |

Game Grumps: During their playthrough of Super Mario 64, Danny relates a story of his fellow Steam Train host Ross falling asleep due to a bad sleep schedule, after being told not to fall asleep. According to Dan, when he woke Ross up and asked when he had to say for himself, Ross gives us this gem before immediately falling back to sleep: On an episode of Donkey Kong Country 3 released the very same day on Grumpcade, Ross gives his perspective on the story. That train of thought came from hearing Kevin talk about his fear of bugs while he was feeling super sleepy. During their episode on "Paranoiascape", Dan briefly falls asleep, and, upon waking up, says "Thank God fish aren't into cash." He then tries to explain to Arin that he had a short dream where fish were stealing his stuff, and realized as he was saying the above line that Arin had no context for what he was talking about. |

My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic: "Castle Sweet Castle": After falling asleep in her breakfast, Twilight Sparkle wakes up with a pancake stuck on her horn, hanging over her face, and blurts out "I'm pancake— I mean, awake!" In "Princess Spike", Twilight is getting some much-needed rest after staying up for three straight days. When Spike tries to wake her for some advice, she tells him not to worry and that he should "just put the hay in the apple and eat the candle." In "A Health of Information", Twilight Sparkle is awoken from a nap by Fluttershy, and shouts "Non-stick pans!" |

Doctor Who: In "Robot", the Fourth Doctor's first words are "Sontarans! Perverting the course of human history!" Amazingly, this does have context: it's a Call-Back to "The Time Warrior". This was later repeated by the Twelfth Doctor twice, the second time after almost regenerating. At one point in "The Deadly Assassin", Four wakes up beside a machine that just burned out and says "Do you mind? This is a non-smoking compartment." |

Homestar Runner: In "Halloween Potion-Ma-Jig", Homestar awakens a half-buried, unconscious Strong Sad, who mumbles "mineral water... wha?" as he awakens. Similiarly, whenever Strong Bad is awoken from sleep (usually by Strong Sad), he will mutter the names of video games. In the Strong Bad Email "ladying", Strong Bad puts on a crappy "early" SBEmail about "lady-ing" for senders Lorenzo and Filbert. At the end of the cartoon, it's show the old cartoon has put Strong Bad to sleep, and when he wakes up he seems to have forgotten who he was talking to and what he was talking about. In the "Record Store Day" cartoon, Strong Sad shouts "Watch out, Julian Casablancas!" when Strong Bad wakes him up. |

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: In an early episode, Willow has been sleeping over an open book and suddenly bolts upright, crying, "Don't warn the tadpoles!" When Giles expresses surprise, she sheepishly admits, "I... I have a frog fear." In the last episode, during Buffy's tense talk with the First Evil, a sleeping Spike suddenly calls out "I'm drowning in footwear!" After the First vanishes and Spike has a few seconds to realize where he is, he comments that that was a really weird dream. |
