Cult alternative pop band formed in London in the mid-1980s and revolving around a creative core of Alex Ayuli and Rudy Tambala. Initially dubbed "the black Jesus and Mary Chain" by critics, they diversified their sound and became influential on the Shoegazing and Dream Pop styles (the latter of which they named as an attempt to describe their own sound). Also part of the MARRS collective which recorded the 1987 hit "Pump Up The Volume".
