"Freaky Friday" Flip: To celebrate the 10th anniversary of his first video obsessing over Miley Cyrus, he did a parody of 'Freaky Friday' by Lil Dicky where he and his cardboard Miley Cyrus (as Hannah Montana) standee switched bodies. At the end, she also switched bodies with his friend Chris.

Pop Punk: It's his main style of music. He specifically cites blink-182 as his initial inspiration with getting into learning how to play music, but you can also hear inspirations from other Pop Punk bands and even more Alternative Rock as he's gone on making music.

Iconic Outfit: In his first few years, his outfit was just a green polo shirt, a white hat, and jeans. Occasionally he'll wear them in his newer videos, but he's mostly ditched the look.

Continuity Nod: His Miley Cyrus videos are pretty well connected. When he released 'Chelsea's Mom,' the video acts as a sequel to his 'I've Got A Crush On Hilary Clinton' song from 2008. Acknowledged in that he released the first song connected to it on iTunes.

Mood Whiplash: on his Pizza Ship EP, he has 'Blacked Out,' then '3 A.M.', then 'Right For Me', which has a song about a relationship in peril a la Lit's 'My Own Worst Enemy', then a song about hooking up with a girl at 3 in the morning, then a song about a relationship that he regrets failing. Switch those first 2 around and the EP flows a lot better as a whole.

Take That!

Take That!: His parody of Bruno Mars's 'That's What I Like' is a well-executed one towards Jake Paul, as well as other YouTube vloggers and all of their tricks and stuff that they do in their videos, as they were fastly becoming the next YouTube fad at the time. An earlier example is his 'Fred Drives Me Crazy" song, which took a lot of shots at Fred.

Shout-Out

Shout-Out: His first album, The Dave Days Show's cover and name are ones to Eminem's The Eminem Show. He made a cover of the That '70s Show theme song and opening with a few other artists, as well as a skit parodying the show's famous scenes where the characters would sit in the basement of Eric's house, get high, and talk, complete with canned laughter and applause. All for an announcement for his upcoming tour at the time too. In his cover of All Time Low's 'Something's Gotta Give,' his bassist Nikki references Back to the Future. Dave also wears a flannel shirt tied around his waist like Alex Gaskarth did in every shot of the band in their music videos for their songs from Future Hearts. His Pizza Ship EP's cover has a ship on it that resembles the U.S.S. Enterprise from Star Trek: The Original Series on it. In his song 'Baddest,' Dave uses the line "blood's a big expense you have to pay," slightly paraphrasing a line from The Godfather. Another Back to the Future reference comes in in his song, 'All My Life' with the use of "Where we're going, we don't need roads."

Cover Version: It's his main bread and butter, being a YouTube cover artist and all. He crosses this and Parody all the time. Even otherwise serious song covers have hilarious music videos.

Crossover: He's performed covers with Alex Goot, Tay Zonday (whose hit song 'Chocolate Rain' was his first uploaded video to his channel), Rebecca Black, Megan Nicole, Kimmi Smiles, Jarrod Alonge, Tiffany Alvord, Chad Sugg, and others. In his video for 'Last Song', he had Miley Cyrus appear in it after years of making songs where he obsessed over her. He also did a video with Larry King for his 5th year anniversary video.
