Juno Songs is a YouTube channel that lyricizes video game songs in a similar vein to Brentalfloss and Man on the Internet (not to be mistaken for, but they do a lot of collabs together). Most of the channel's videos tend to aim more on the Nintendo side of things.

No Celebrities Were Harmed
Juno Songs (Music) / int_1282bf4f | comment |
No Celebrities Were Harmed: Most "gangster"-type characters that he’s voiced such as Popple and Tape use “see as a Verbal Tic, much like Humphrey Bogart did. The non-glitched voice he provides for Spamton is a dead ringer for Gilbert Gottfried, to the point that Spamton’s last minute cameo at the end of “REAL SANS MEGALOVANIA (NOT CLICKBAIT!) #SANSSWEEP has him crying “I can’t believe it, I just can’t believe it in nearly the same delivery Gottfried used in a similar line from Iago in Aladdin. King Boo's normal speaking voice in "A Night at Boo's Opera" is clearly based on Alex Brightman's Beetlejuice.

The Cameo | |
Juno Songs (Music) / int_1b65dfad | comment |
The Cameo: During the cover of "Soda Disco Funk", Benjamin and Soft Pico can be seen behind Momo and Gogo during the art shots, signifying how both pairs are gay couples. "Spiral Mountain" uses the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate cover of the song, which features a medley of snippets of other tracks from the game near the beginning, thus when it gets to the part that references "Gruntilda's Lair", the witch in question pops up to sing a line. Played for Laughs in that the lyrics indicate she's getting beaten up by Banjo and Kazooie. In the image for "Hunted by the Beast," one of the creatures that makes up Fecto Forgo's blob form resembles Pikachu, and a faint "Pika..." can even be heard groaning in agony among Fecto's Voice of the Legion at one point during the song itself. The Stinger of "Spikey Dance Number" features Bob Bobowski and Fishy Boopkins, with the latter wishing he could sing and dance like the Spikes in the music number. Bob agrees with him because Fishy's voice sucks, with a spiked ball promptly bonking him over the head as Fishy gains Fish Eyes, followed by Bob shouting "Ow, my ovaries!" Boy briefly appears in the Bowsember collection, taking back his Memory Mallet after Popple stole it. After Beta Luigi's final verse in Alone, Peach and Toad arrive at the mansion in an attempt to comfort the younger Mario Bro.

Adaptational Villainy
Juno Songs (Music) / int_20f689e9 | comment |
Adaptational Villainy: In the Kirby and the Forgotten Land songs, Fecto Elfilis is further characterized as a megalomaniacal, bloodthirsty Galactic Conqueror-wannabe and makes returning the Beast Pack to their "primal state" part of their overall goals (to make them "bow to their God") rather than a side effect of getting brainwashed by them. It also shows their invasion in more detail, with a flashback that shows them calling down meteors to strike the New World.note Material from the Japanese guidebook of Forgotten Land implies that Fecto Elfilis really does start their invasions this way. Their Meteor-Summoning Attack is called "Fermi Paradox Answer" — for non-astronomers, that translates to, "the answer to the question 'why haven't we seen any aliens if we're pretty sure they exist' is 'oh, there's one, and holy shit it's throwing space junk the size of a house at us'". But this wasn't even hinted at in the game proper, so it still counts. Some of the lyrics of "Hunted By the Beast" even imply that Fecto wants to hunt down and kill the humans who captured it, and Juno has officially confirmed this. Because of this, this version of them is portrayed as more evil than their game counterpart, and that's saying a lot.

Adaptation Expansion: Peppino states throughout the Cold Spaghetti lyrics that Pizzaface plans on destroying his pizzeria in thirty minutes, whereas an actual time wasn't given in the original game. In the Kirby and the Forgotten Land songs, Fecto Elfilis's invasion of the New World, which was only vaguely described in-game and given more details in the Japanese-only "Perfect Support Guide", is shown through flashbacks.

Mythology Gag | |
Juno Songs (Music) / int_26ac510e | comment |
Mythology Gag: Both "Gang-Plank Galleon" and "Crocodile Cacophony" reference the cartoon by using the chorus of "K. Rool's Finest Hour", the former also referencing "Diddy Drop Rap" in the extended version. Not only does Juno do Dedede's anime accent well, but in "Roar of Dedede", the king even says "I need you monsters [the Beast Pack] to clobber that there Kirby!", a reference to a well known line from the anime ("I need a monster to clobber that there Kirby!"). Very very dark examples of these exist in "Monochrome DX" with various jumpscares depicting the post-Gen 3 Pokémon protagonists in states of disrepair that call back to either other Pokémon creepypastas or the fates that could befall them if they failed in their journeys. In turn, the jumpscare-free version replaces them with crude images that vaguely relate to the previous gags. During "Game Over", MX references Captain Lou Albano's Anti Drug PSA commercial with the line "Know that I will put you through hell before you die", "Jump Up Superstar!" with the line "Jump away superstar" and one of Mario's more famous quotes "Thank you so much for-a to playing my game".

Juno Songs (Music) / int_415b3315 | comment |
"The Rowdy Rusher, YAPE" is a dig at impatient fans harassing creators to get content out faster. It's a deliberately bad cover of Tape's theme that took a typo and made a gag character based on that. Yape is characterized as being extremely impatient and arrogant, and he points out that the lack of quality in the song is because "[He] thought you wanted Yape NOW?!"

Leaning on the Fourth Wall
Juno Songs (Music) / int_4a3e547f | comment |
Leaning on the Fourth Wall: At the end of "A Night at Boo's Opera", King Boo asks Luigi what he thought of the song, to which Luigi replies that it's different than Juno's usual voice for King Boo. This is likely a reference to Mario fandom being apprehensive over the fact that this was the first game in which Charles Martinet wasn't voicing Mario and Luigi. In the middle of the "Macho of Dedede" portion of the Dedede Medley, after a line about how he'll snap Kirby's neck, Dedede uses a break in the music to say, "Yeah, I know Kirby ain't got no neck! It's a metaphor! I know what a metaphor is! I went to night school!" This is in response to comments in Juno's original cover about Kirby not having a neck to wring.

Downer Ending: The Scissors concludes his song as Mario stomps the Scissors' blades, killing himself. Possibly subverted, as the game's HUD shows that Mario has a 1-UP Mushroom on standby. Played straight in "Enter Bowser Jr. WITH LYRICS" as Mario gets hit by a Bullet Bill and falls into a Black Hole at the end of the song as Bowser Jr. does his Evil Laugh. "The Frenzied Firearm, GUN" ends with Gun shooting Mario and a smash to black. Mario is heard screaming throughout the entire credits sequence. Keep in mind this one is a joke song though, similar to Yape. "BIG SHOT" is set in the Weird Route version of Spamton NEO's fight and ends the same way as it does in that route. "Kris wins," but by this point, many residents of Cyber World have been killed and Noelle has been corrupted by the player to the point of freezing Spamton on command, just like in the original game. As in the original story of Starved, Furnace catches Sonic off guard once Robotnik leaves.

Body Horror | |
Juno Songs (Music) / int_504a1991 | comment |
Body Horror: In the song "Triple Trouble", Tails, Knuckles and Eggman have all suffered horrific mutilations at the hands of Xenophanes, which carry over into their tormented undead forms. Tails has had both eyes gouged out and the bone between the sockets ripped away, merging the two sockets into one cavernous hole — when in his down pose or in the fan art, a single glowing eye appears in the center of the hole, making him look like a demonic/undead cyclops. He's also had his right hand viciously ripped off at the wrist. Knuckles seems to have also had his eyes gouged out, has had his lower jawbone ripped out of its socket so only dangling strips of flesh hold it in place, and has likewise lost a hand — though which hand he's lost differs; in the game sprite art, he's lost his right hand, just like Tails, whereas in the fan art, it's his left hand that's missing. Eggman has had all of the flesh of his head torn away, leaving behind just his nose and mustache on a bare skull, and both eyes gouged out so hard that the back of the sockets is shattered, exposing his brain through them — the fan art adds the extra detail of his right eye dangling from the socket on his cheekbone. His brain is also visible through a crack in the top of his skull, and both hands have been torn off.

Gag Censor: "BIG SHOT" includes an image of the "We are Fucking Under Attack" meme as one of the popups, with Spamton's head over the woman's. Sanity Slippage
Juno Songs (Music) / int_62434fe2 | comment |
Sanity Slippage: King Dedede throughout the Kirby and the Forgotten Land covers featuring him. In "Roar of Dedede", he has a mentality rather similar to Gorimondo. "Roar of Dedede (Reprise)" shows Dedede losing himself, referring to himself as the Beast Pack's puppet more often than as a king, and when "Masked and Wild: D.D.D." kicks in, he's reduced to a mindless beast hellbent on eating Kirby. Thankfully, it's all due to him being Brainwashed and Crazy; once he's beaten out of his feral state, he's back to being the friendly, heroic king we all know (albeit with his anime counterpart's accent, which Juno uses for covers).

Freeze-Frame Bonus | |
Juno Songs (Music) / int_62f9d08e | comment |
Freeze-Frame Bonus: During "THE SKELETON APPEARS WITH LYRICS“, various skeletons make cameos at one point. These include: Sans, Skeletor, Hector Rivera, Jack Skellington, Grim, Lord Hater, a Dry Bones, Cortez, Bonechill and Skid. Interestingly enough, Necrodeus does not appear among them, despite the "THE SKELETON APPEARS" meme being made with the Skull Gang's (and by extension, his) theme song. Two of them around the same time in "Monochrome DX": One of them shows gruesome fates of protagonists from Gen 3 onward via Jump Scares: Brendan looks like he's shriveled up by heat and May is drowning, Dawn is dealing with Hell Bell and her ears are bleeding, Hilda's now scarred and she ends up crucified, Calem suffers eternal life thanks to Xerneas and Serena is turned to a lifeless husk, Elio and Selene are massacred by Beast Lusamine, Victor got stabbed in the mouth with a sword and Gloria got stabbed in the chest with a shield, and Juliana is getting mauled by a Koraidon. Between the Jump Scares, Unowns spelling the name of Pokémon protagonists appear behind Gold, in order: Red, Leaf, Kris, Lyra, Brendan, May, Dawn, Lucas, Hilda, Hilbert, Rosa, Nate, Calem, Serena, Selene, Elio, Victor, Gloria, then Florian and Juliana at the same time, then rows of Unowns all spelling out ETHAN (Gold's Canon Name), then rows all spelling NO MORE. As an additional freeze-frame bonus, rows of Unown spelling 'GOLD' are also faintly visible behind the rows of 'ETHAN'.

Juno Songs (Music) / int_6a47a1e2 | comment |
Knight of Cerebus: Bowser is usually sung with a hammy and downright funny voice befitting his portrayal in the early RPG games as an evil but hilarious character. In the "Bowser's Fury" song however, his voice becomes downright demonic and terrifying and he sings about killing Mario and burning the world. Similarly, in "Adventure's End", Bowser, once again, sings about killing the Mario Bros. and changing the world through the power of his dreams. Progressively in the Kirby and the Forgotten Land Finale Collection. "Roar of Dedede (Reprise)" is a dire fight but still comical, and "The Raging Lion Roars" is the dramatic but hopeful Villain Song of a Well-Intentioned Extremist... but then Fecto Forgo escapes the Eternal Capsule, and all hell breaks loose.

Arc Words | |
Juno Songs (Music) / int_7464705c | comment |
Arc Words: "Hail the Origami King" is a recurring lyric in all of the Legion of Stationery lyrics. The Tape subverts this when he performs his second run of the chorus: "Roll out the carpet! Hail the Origami- Ack!" The first and third runs have him do it properly: "Roll out the carpet! Hail the Origami King!" Meanwhile, Yape and Gun instead have "Hail the Origami Korigami!" He wanted to make "The light of Vinyl City will never die" these in the No Straight Roads videos, but he realized it didn't exactly fit all the characters' motives the same way "Hail the Origami King" did, so his friend Man on the Internet made DJ Subatomic Supernova turn it into a Subverted Catchphrase. The Beast Pack members (Gorimondo, King Dedede, and Leongar) all mention at one point to "heed The Call of the Wild" during their respective numbers.

"The Final Fold": While Bowser and Olly get another duet during Phase Two of the boss fight, "The Final Battle" portion of the song has a straighter example: While Olly sings about his rage at Mario and Olivia constantly getting in the way of his plans and his desire for revenge on the paper Toad who scribbled on him, Olivia pleads with her brother to come to his senses and make peace with the non-folded paper beings.

My God, What Have I Done?: Just like in the game, King Olly regrets his actions after finding out the writing on his body is the Origami Craftsman hoping for him to be a good king in his song. Also happens during Magolor's song, namely during the second part of his video, going from gloating about his powers, to realizing how badly he messed up putting on the Master Crown and begging Kirby to stop him.

Sensory Abuse: In "Hunted by the Beast", Fecto Forgo gets a loud, disturbing Voice of the Legion that combines a very growly, deep voice with an airy, high-pitched scream which is heavily implied to be the tortured screaming of all the beasts they've assimilated into themselves. Add that to the atonal background music, and you have a singularly unpleasant and dissonant listening experience.

Take That!: "The Rowdy Rusher, YAPE" is a dig at impatient fans harassing creators to get content out faster. It's a deliberately bad cover of Tape's theme that took a typo and made a gag character based on that. Yape is characterized as being extremely impatient and arrogant, and he points out that the lack of quality in the song is because "[He] thought you wanted Yape NOW?!" He made a joke video after his Bomb-Omb Battlefield cover was taken down that mocks the entire takedown, complete with a "legal friendly" remix of the theme being what is dubbed over.

Irony: One of Spamton NEO's lines in his "The Reason You Suck" Speech towards Kris in "BIG SHOT" is "YOU CAN'T [Stand] ON YOUR OWN FEET LIKE ME". While this is somewhat true on a metaphorical level (Kris has been using Noelle to freeze and kill the residents of the Cyber World, while Spamton has taken over Queen's Castle all on his own), on a literal level, it's far from the truth (Spamton NEO is dangling on strings without touching the floor, while Kris is on the ground). To drive home the irony from a metaphorical level, not only did Spamton need assistance to ever reach the highs he once reached in his past, at the end of the day, he's a puppet who is controlled by strings, unable to be truly rid of them.

Shout-Out | |
Juno Songs (Music) / int_c75df49a | comment |
Shout-Out: There are quite a few. Popple and Rookie's song has a few modified lyrics of We Are Number One. In its song, Rubber Band declares it is The Greatest Showman. Hole Punch makes multiple references to music, such as Stayin' Alive, Holding Out For A Hero, I Will Survive, YMCA, the Electric Slide, and September. His video's endcard logo is also modeled after that of Saturday Night Fever. In the poorly Google translated version of the song, he asks Mario, "Since when did Miami have a king?", which is a reference to ZXMany's mod Book of Mario: King of Miami, in which the game's dialogue is also poorly Google translated. The endcard logo of Tape's video is modeled after that of The Godfather. Handaconda's song makes references to Trust in Me, Baby Got Back and Anaconda. Scissors cries "Omae wa mou shinderu!"note Japanese for "You're already dead!" towards Mario. It ends the video by saying, "Once again, I have cut a worthless object!". "Twisted Mansion," near the beginning, has the Boos inhabiting the course telling the player that "(they're) in for a scare" and later say that they're in for a B-movie show. The voice in the Mario Party DS Anti Piracy songs scolds the people who pirated the game for thinking they could "do what [they] want because a pirate is free". In the description of Fury Bowser's video: Juno's Antasma voice is modeled after Count von Count, and even does the Count's Signature Laugh, "Ah ah ah!" The chorus of Apocalypse CURIE's video ends with "WE ARE BECOME DEATH, THE DESTROYER OF WORLDS!" This references Oppenheimer's famous quote about the first nuclear detonation (which in itself was a quotation from Bhagavad Gita), already partially quoted by CURIE in Pokémon Uranium proper. At the beginning of the second verse of "Roar of Dedede", Dedede tells Kirby to "Hear the Breath of the Wild revive this Forgotten Land!" "Adventure's End" has Bowser quoting midway through a certain song from Pinocchio, and Luigi ends the song with the same quote. "Purple Comet", released on April Fools' Day, is about the buff Luigi seen in PeanutButterGamer's "HACKING Mario Galaxy!" video, which even uses PBG's lyrics during its chorus. "The Raging Lion Roars" has several references to The Lion King (1994), such as Leongar stating that "Everything light touches/Lies in the judgement of the animal king", and once Forgo takes control of Leon, he sings these lyrics from "Be Prepared" (Scar's Villain Song): In "Feather Fiend", Colonel Pluck is modeled vocally after Foghorn Leghorn. "Two Planets Approach the Roche Limit" briefly quotes Vergil's battle theme "Bury The Light" and its most remembered line "I am the storm that approaches". Near the end of "Outta My Way... It's Happy Hour!", Anton screams "I'M GONNA WRECK IT!". In "A Night at Boo's Opera", King Boo sings at one point that "The Phantom of the Opera's here inside your mind!" He also pulls an Eustace Bagge-style Jump Scare on Luigi at the end after Luigi inadvertently insults his singing.

Lighter and Softer: "Prey" takes a much lighter tone to Starved's section than the original song, as Juno decides to imitate Eggman's usual voice instead of the usual deep, raspy voice otherwise used. Starved's lyrics also center on referencing evil ham and "Hedgehog Stew", and the caption of Furnace successfully catching Sonic is "[HIS SNEAKY SCHEME IS WORKING]". It's also evident in Juno's artwork, which makes Starved look more human-like than in the "official" artwork, as he has his lips and nose in Juno's art, whereas in "official" artwork, his nose and lips are gone, and the red color of his skin looks more like Starved is either burnt or covered in blood rather than it being a result of his diet.

Updated Re-release: To celebrate getting 5000 subscribers, Juno made a re-release of the earlier "Gangplank Galleon" video with a brand-new second verse. When Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, itself an Updated Rerelease, was released, Juno did this to the Magolor songs by releasing "Magolor Collection DX", alongside adding another song to the mix. An updated cover of "Monochrome" was released after the V2 release of Friday Night Funkin' Lullaby, adding in the new second half of the song. "Roar of Dedede (Reprise)" and "The Raging Lion Roars" were later rereleased as part of the Kirby and the Forgotten Land Finale Collection, which added lyrical adaptations of "The Dream Discoveries Tour", "Hunted by the Beast", and "Two Planets Approach the Roche Limit". The Bowsember Collection was made to celebrate the five year anniversary of Juno's channel and includes remasters of Popple And Rookie and The Grand Finale. With the former having a new intro and the latter having a verse at the start for Dark Bowser, as well as new art for the beginning and the new ending sequence. Apparition was remastered two months after the release of V2, including new lyrics during Boyfriend's solo at the end of the song and an ending joke Wario says he proudly stole from Man on the Internet complete with Alex popping in and asking for his bit back.

Juno Songs (Music) / int_e661f66d | comment |
Faith in the Foe: In Juno's adaptation of the Stapler boss fight from Paper Mario: The Origami King, Bowser states his faith that Mario's capable of stopping Olly based on his long history of being bested by the plumber.

Juno Songs (Music) / int_e83f211c | comment |
O.O.C. Is Serious Business: As several reviewers point out in "Fury Bowser", the biggest sign that Bowser's Not Himself during the song is that he's not referring to Mario by his usual "schnook" insult from Juno's other covers featuring him.

Dark Is Evil: Happens in a few songs from games where it applies, but especially in Dialga's Fight to the Finish where Dark Is Evil with a capital E, after all, "The Dark broke Time's flow".

Crossover: Frequently does crossovers with Man on the Internet and vice-versa. Juno generally provides artwork while Alex occasionally does voices in Juno's videos.

Translation Train Wreck
Juno Songs (Music) / int_eebf0e76 | comment |
Translation Train Wreck: For April Fools' Day, Juno released a video entitled "The Disco Devil, Hole Punch, but it's poorly Google translated" and the video is very true to its name. Notably, "Hail the Origami King" got simplified by the translation tool and came out as "Respect origami", and Hole Punch's name and title are mangled into "The Bad Disco: Exercise".

Early-Bird Cameo: Believe it or not, Grand Dad first appeared on the cover of "Hopefully No Copyright Bomb War Song WITH LYRICS" (because the song used a Silva Gunner rip as the instrumental), exactly three years and five months before getting a day in the spotlight in "Nourishing Blood WITH LYRICS".

Evil Brit: Fecto Elfilis is a cruel cosmic entity who ravages worlds in his wake with no remorse also vocalizes his all of his lyrics with a calm British accent. The aforementioned accent, along with an echoed voice, and him speaking out his malice as a Soft-Spoken Sadist makes his singing rather terrifying to listen.

Dark Reprise: In "Crocodile Cacophony", Kaptain K. Rool twists several of the lyrics from the DK Rap to describe himself. Also counts as an Inverted Trope since DKC2 technically takes place before DK64. The lyrics of "Ballistic" are referenced in "Genocide", as a reference to the fact the latter is based on the former. The introduction of "Piranha Plants on Parade" is referenced in "Bowser's Rage Stage" as it appears during the Wonder Effect for the latter.
