Catherine Grace Garner (born September 17, 1996), known professionally as Slayyyternote she also went under the pseudonym Catherine Slater for privacy reasons, is an American pop singer-songwriter from St. Louis, Missouri. Commonly recognized as an important figure in the early days of hyperpop, she is well known for her loud, brightly colored, Y2K-inspired sound and persona, as well as her unapologetic sex-positive attitude.Slayyyter began her career as a musician while at college, independently uploading music to SoundCloud; she eventually dropped out after a year to fully commit to music. Her music began attracting attention on Twitter, where she met the artist Ayesha Erotica, who would become her most frequent collaborator in songwriting, production and/or vocal features. Her first eight singles were released in 2018, and by early 2019, she had attained such a following that a single of hers ("Mine") had a snippet go viral on Twitter with over 200,000 views, and went on to reach the top 40 of the US iTunes pop chart in under 24 hours. She embarked on a sold-out tour that summer, and eventually issued her debut release — a self-titled mixtape — in September of that year. By this point, her success was attributed to her social media virality (on platforms like TikTok alongside Twitter) as well as the Stan Twitter community.Between late 2019 and 2020, Slayyyter began work on her first official album, Troubled Paradise, releasing the Title Track as the first single in 2020. After consistent single drops from the upcoming project, the album was released in early 2021 through Fader. In July 2022, she confirmed in a tweet replying to a fan that work on her second album was almost complete.
