Advertisement:propertag.cmd.push(function() { proper_display('tvtropes_mobile_ad_1'); })Super Fly, released in 1972, is one of the most famous Blaxploitation films ever made. The soundtrack, composed and performed by Curtis Mayfield, is a major factor; it spawned two hits with “Freddie’s Dead” and “Superfly.” Mayfield’s soundtrack, however, stands as an important work of art apart from the movie. When he saw the film, Mayfield remarked that it “looked like a cocaine commercial.” By contrast, the soundtrack to the movie counters this imagery with songs about urban hardship and the drug trade.Mayfield would go on to do soundtracks to Claudine, Sparkle, Let's Do It Again, and Short Eyes, but Super Fly remains his best-known.

Drugs Are Bad: The running theme of the soundtrack is how the drug pushing had created problems in African-American communities. "Little Child Running Wild", "Freddie’s Dead", "Pusherman" and "No Thing On Me" especially has that theme.
