It's implied in "My so-called Life and Death" that the family will have to live in the "purgatory" that is their vacation home for all eternity, with no indication that they will ever be able to move on. As if realizing this, or as though the mother simply wants to make the best of a bad situation, they accept this and continue on the facade of a happy family in the remains of their home.
