In fact, you'd be hard-pressed to find a fan that doesn't have any complaints about a work, no matter how minor. But what happens when the amount of complaints being thrown at the work start to outweigh the compliments? Well, you might find yourself with fans starting to throw out ideas about how it can improve, or things it should have done in order to maintain quality. These fans may then run to their word processors and start writing out exactly how their ideas would play out. And they may soon discover that others in the community not only like their creative re-interpretation of the original work, but are anxiously awaiting for more... because they think it's actually better than the source material. Better Than Canon refers to fanworks that are viewed as better than the source material as a result of it ignoring and/or rewriting the disliked aspects of a fictional canon in order to "improve" upon it. Of course, this isn't limited to works that are intentionally meant to be some level of Take That! to the canon. Sometimes the writer has no qualms with the source material, but still find themselves thinking What If? as a simple creative exercise. In either case, results may vary. The following tropes are likely to contribute to being seen as Better Than Canon: Adaptation Distillation: It removes or minimizes unpopular characters, plotlines, Filler and Padding, and other contentious aspects leaving just what makes the series popular. Adaptation Expansion: It adds content that improves the depth and quality of the setting, such as greater Worldbuilding, turning minor/underdeveloped characters or mentions into something fully fleshed out, and giving underutilized characters and plots due focus. Crossover/Fusion Fic/Patchwork Fic: The work combines separate series and Alternate Continuity, or aspects of them, to produce a story that would be difficult or impossible in official works due to the legal complications. Darker and Edgier/Dark Fic: It includes more mature content and subject matter than the source material would allow. Deconstruction Fic: It Deconstructs the source material pointing out its problematic or illogical aspects either to criticize it and/or make a better story out of it. Fix Fic: It focuses on fixing disliked aspects of canon, such as fixing contentious characters and storylines or outright replacing them with something better. Periphery Demographic is a common contributor to the creation of and reception as Better Than Canon fanworks due to having tastes and interests different than what canon can reliably provide. If you meet people who seem to label a lot of fan works as this, you may be dealing with Fanwork-Only Fans. When some fans get the chance to force this on the official work, it's Running the Asylum and Armed with Canon. If the creator decides it's a good idea as well, it may become Ascended Fanon. In fact, the problems caused by the Heartless can be pinned on the light, since the Heartless are merely trying to fight back against the tyranny of light that oppressed and tortured them.

The battle scenes regularly outclass even the best of what Friendship is Magic has to offer and the Villains and their arcs get the time they need to allow satisfying conclusions. Add to this the fact that The POV series has done stories from later seasons (The plot of Reharmonised Ponies about the Mane Six coming to better understand their element is remarkably similar to season four's plot. Despite Reharmonised being written during Season two, but better.

This also made Raphael's claims that he could have been a wicked pharaoh odd since Yami had spent series as a kind, heroic character who had his moments of Good is Not Nice at the worst of times. The abridged series always exaggerated his pride and made him much more of a Jerkass at best, Heroic Comedic Sociopath at worst. This ends up making Raphael's claims a little easier to swallow, and his Faceâ€“Heel Turn more in character. Later on, Dartz's breaking speech is so effective because he's absolutely right.
