Alex Kidd in Miracle World is a video game developed and published by Sega for the Sega Master System in 1986 as the first installment in the Alex Kidd series. The game began development as a Licensed game based on Dragon Ball but was reworked into an original IP when Sega lost the license. The game was originally released as a cartridge game, but was built into later editions of the Master System, sometimes with some modifications depending on the version. On the planet Aries, Alex Kidd has spent years on Mt. Eternal, mastering the Shellcore martial arts form. One day, while descending the mountain, Alex learns that the kingdom of Radaxian is in great danger, as the evil Janken the Great has taken over and kidnapped the royal family. Additionally, he learns that he is the rightful heir to the Radaxian throne who went missing many years ago. With this new knowledge, Alex sets out to defeat Janken and his henchmen and restore peace to Radaxian. The game is a side-scrolling Platform Game. You control Alex through a variety of stages while punching out enemies and collecting coins found in money bags. Throughout the adventure, you will have opportunities to use your collected coins to purchase helpful items from shops, including vehicles that can be used to help get through levels. At certain points throughout the adventure, Alex will encounter boss characters that he will need to beat in games of Rock–Paper–Scissors in order to advance.During the IGN's Summer of Gaming event in 2020, a remake of the game, Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX, was announced to be in development by Merge Games and Jankenteam, and was scheduled for release in 2021. This version of the game not only features more modern graphics, but allows the player to switch to the original game's graphics at any time with the press of a button. It also features a handful of brand-new levels, and some other enhancements to cater to more modern gamers.

The Artifact: Miracle World DX introduces two: Despite the renaming of the character Saint Nurari to Master Nurari, the island where he lives is still called Island of Saint Nurari. Despite Mt. Kave no longer being the seventh level due to the addition of the Scorching Pathway, it still starts with a group of breakable blocks forming the digit "7".

No Ontological Inertia: Averted. Killing Janken the Great doesn't really do anything to stop his forces or reverse his evil magic spells in of itself. Alex has to obtain the Golden Crown in order to fully restore Radaxian to how it once was and the end crawl in the original and the cutscene in the remake mention the enemy forces not being completely defeated.

Skippable Boss: In the original version of Miracle World, Janken can be skipped if you have the magic staff. Usually, you must defeat Janken before the ladder to the final room will drop down. Activating the magic staff allows you to float in the air for a short amount of time. If you activate it just before reaching Janken, you can float up to the ladder without ever having to face him. See it in action here.

"Blind Idiot" Translation: Not as bad as many other games from the same period, but the dialogue is rather awkwardly translated, and certain words and phrases are put in "quotation marks" for no readily apparent reason. In the Brazilian Portuguese menu for the DX remake, "Resume game" was mistranslated as "CurrÃculo do jogo", meaning "Game's Resumé".

Damn You, Muscle Memory!: In the original game, the leftmost button (Button 1) is for jumping and the rightmost button (Button 2) is for attacking, rather than the other way around like most other platformers. The game's creator, Kotaro Hayashida admits in an interview that he wanted to distinguish his game from Super Mario Bros. by making the controls a bit different. The latter releases of the game (including the one built into the Master System II) swapped the controls around to a more familiar setup.
