It all started with an idea in the Friday Night Funkin' community: what if someone else sang "Ugh" instead of Tankman or Boyfriend? Then YouTuber Blantados managed to figure out how to isolate the voicebanks of just about every single character, vanilla and modded, and even generate new ones for characters that didn't have their own. Soon enough, he got Senpai and Tankman to sing it together, and following several more cover videos, had "Ugh" sang by (almost) the entire vanilla cast and popular mod characters. The rest is history.Such begins BETADCIU ("But Every Turn a Different Cover Is Used"), a Massive Multiplayer Crossover between dozens of mods for Friday Night Funkin'. As the title implies, the playable version of the mod began with Blantados's "Guns" video, but has evolved to also host the standalone covers with two characters that started it all while even developing some semblance of actual plots to said covers. The genre of videos spawned by it has grown to be one of the most popular at the community's peak to the point of inspiring other content creators to try their hand at their own covers, but BETADCIU remains as the de-facto origin point. The playable version of the mod featuring almost all covers created to date can be found here, and the mod wiki has a download link on its respective page.Note: The playable version of BETADCIU contains several sneak peeks of upcoming projects publicly teased by Blantados (and some that haven't been.) All examples referring to them have been spoilered out, but proceed at your own risk of having the surprise ruined later. You have been warned!

Adaptation Expansion: The "Hands" BETADCIU includes extra charting for the instrumental breaks (and thus allowing for more characters to appear than with the original chart.) Amelia, Gura, Nenechi, and Aloe now all sing in their real voices instead of the characters they replace in HoloFunk, thus decoupling them from said characters and allowing them to function as separate entities in both song and story.

Mythology Gag | |
BETADCIU (Video Game) / int_26ac510e | comment |
Mythology Gag: In general, BETADCIU pairings will usually try to put together characters who have connections to each other in canon or fanon, ranging from duos like Bob & Bosip to more esoteric pairings like Bob and Opheebop. Blantad is sometimes associated with Henry Stickmin in BETADCIU pairings and standalone covers, as Blantados used to cover Henry Stickmin before moving onto Friday Night Funkin'. The screen still shakes whenever Ruv gets a turn, just like in his mod. The title for the "Copycat" cover with Nenechi and Nene blanks out on a descriptor for the former, referencing Nenechi's infamous laundry list of other titles. The Friday Night Funkin': Tails Gets Trolled version of Sonic goes through his turn in "Killer Scream" with his "fake smile" animations without ever stopping to show its idle animation, just like in "No Villains." Most characters in the "Killer Scream" BETADCIU who hit Rushia's attack notes reference something from their source material: Midas switches to his shadow version; Sonic.EXE does his Jump Scare; Nenechi, Sticky, Zipper, Cesar, Woody, Alucard, and Mickey all use screams/visuals isolated from their origins; Peri flashes Jojo symbols onscreen; Tankman does his special "Ugh" pose; Hex turns the background into a Blue Screen of Death; and the Auditor flashes the text from his standalone mod. The cover of "Triple Trouble" featuring Sonic and the opponents present in the 1.5 update of Vs. Sonic.exe has Sunky's jumpscare be the same one from Sunky.MPEG, while Majin Sonic's is the "Fun is Infinite" screen he originated from. In addition, Lord X's replacement for Robotnik's laugh is the Kefka laugh, which is associated with him just as much as the original Sonic.exe. Similar to the "Killer Scream" cover, "Confronting Yourself" has the opponents replacing Sonic.exe's laugh with one of their own; Demoman uses his laugh from the Vs Sonic.exe cover "You Can't Pan", Fleetway Super Sonic and B3 Girlfriend use voice clips from "Chaos" and "Nom" respectively, and Rushia uses a laugh from one of her own videos. The "Lore" cover begins with the victory screen from Five Nights at Freddy's: Sister Location's custom night before the cover begins. The appearences of Eduardo and Tord in "SpookEDD" are marked by the Scare Chord that plays at the start of "Winter Horrorland". The sprites for the knocked out Skid and Pump at the end of "SpookEDD" are redraws of their poses after the two decide to visit the hospital and "die" on the spot in "Unwanted Guest".

No Fair Cheating: Using the debug console to load a song from the extras menu sends you to a spoof of the "Fun is Infinite" Easter Egg from Sonic CD instead. Prior to Update 8.5, the sprites for the first "Deathmatch" cover were stored in a .rar file within the mod's assets that prevents the game from loading the songs with the debug menu and which cannot be extracted without a password. Meeting their unlock requirements will give said password and allow the sprites to be moved into their proper locations.

Author Appeal | |
BETADCIU (Video Game) / int_6627695f | comment |
Author Appeal: hololive, big time. Amelia, Gura, Nenechi, and Aloe all have their own voicebanks custom-made by Blantados to replace Pump, Skid, and Boyfriend's vocals respectively, every BETADCIU from "Nerves" onward uses HoloFunk vocals at some point, Botan gets a central role in one of the mod's Story Arcs, the "Hands" BETADCIU is currently the one that deviates the most from the original chart and visuals, and HoloFunk itself is second only to Mid-Fight Masses in terms of how many standalone covers feature its music or characters. A hololive cover of "Deathmatch" is also the final secret meant to be unlocked in Update 8, and the "Copycat" cover is the first public demonstration of Nenechi's Player Character sprites in gameplay for HoloFunk. Kaguya Shinomiya appears in almost all of Blantados's original compositions, and was implemented specifically for that purpose.

Continuity Nod: In "Confronting Yourself": When the Green Hill Zone portion of "Confronting Yourself" plays, it's played by both Daddy Dearest and Senpai, in reference to the cover of "You Can't Run" featuring them similarly singing the Green Hill Zone melody as the latter gets trapped in Hating Simulator. The first time Sonic.EXE catches up to Sonic, he starts slowing back down when Ski appears, giving the impression that he's backing off because of her. This references the "Buffer" cover between them. Red and Cheeky have to face Tankman and Nenechi, who befriended each other in the "Senpai and Tankman" series. Sunday and Rushia duet near the end of the song, referencing the "BI-NB" cover and the piece of fanart that inspired it.

BETADCIU (Video Game) / int_a91078ea | comment |
Adaptational Jerkass: A possibility. Nenechi shows some signs of Blood Knight tendencies that are absent in HoloFunk and hololive, seeing Senpai's continued physical deterioration as little more than an opportunity for Aloe to sharpen her singing skills at the poor guy's expense. In fact, throughout the "Ectospasm" cover, her sprites are edited to show a smug grin staring in Senpai's direction. Of course, it could also be attributed to Nenechi's actual childish behavior causing her to not be able to see the forest for the trees. Even before Tord originally left, none of the boys in Eddsworld actually attack or hurt any children whatsoever (at least not with malicious intent) in their home series. In "SpookEDD", Tord appears to be a flatout Child Hater, hurting Skid and Pump with a missle for no reason.

Secret Level | |
BETADCIU (Video Game) / int_aa5d87af | comment |
Secret Level: Extra content can be accessed in the mod with a password, usually containing unfinished or unrefined projects that aren't ready to post to Blantados's channel yet. In Update 8, clearing the covers of "Lament" and "Dusk" without missing or getting a single "Bad" rating unlocks a new cover of "Deathmatch" where Senpai gets his revenge on Daddy Dearest with the help of a few others. You can then repeat the unlock method with that cover to get another cover, which instead has the corruption spreading to the HoloFunk cast as they attempt to take down Calli with them. 8.5 would later change the songs required to start the chain to "Roots" and "Sorrow" from the extras menu, making it require the password as well but also removing the first "Deathmatch" cover, skipping straight to "Deathmatch-Holo." In the 8.0 update, a song named "Restore" may randomly appear when browsing the bonus song list.

While Girlfriend does have a few covers of her own, the only cover Boyfriend has is "Synthesize", a song based on "Happy Synthesizer". BETADCIU (Video Game) / int_dcb9c541 | comment |
Ship Tease: The Pico & Guns arc features Pico and Botan developing a friendship out of their shared love of guns, with the aftermath of its "Ballistic" cover suggesting they've gotten close enough that Pico actually listens to her demands while Botan happily keeps the gun-toting lunatic in check. The "Hands" BETADCIU is where this trope fully comes into effect, though, as Botan lets loose a barely-hidden blush when Pico appears. They also sing together on the same side for part of the hidden BETADCIU of "Shinkyoku." Which, mind you, is set inside a Dating Sim.

History Repeats: The HoloFunk versions of Nenechi and Aloe endured Daddy Dearest successfully breaking up the two in their Backstory Horror, reuniting only by chance after Aloe was pressured into leaving for the surface world. A plot detour in the Senpai and Tankman arc has them run into the titular duo, which ends in them forced to watch Senpai fade away despite him and Tankman similarly going through great efforts to get away from the Dearests.

Damage Over Time: Taki retains the ability to push back the health bar from their original songs. Calli also gains this ability in "Deathmatch-Holo," though this stops being the case during Coco's turn to echo the original verse from Corruption.

Nerf: Spirit's and Aloe's cover of "Ectospasm" lacks all of its gimmicks, and its Interface Screw isn't nearly as bad. Zig-Zagged in Monika and Sayori's cover of "Monochrome". The things you have to type are easier to decide at a glance, due to it being in proper English rather than Unown, but you need to add spaces when needed, and mistakes need to be backspaced rather than just not appearing. Also, the Maximum HP Reduction courtesy of Celebi is absent. Tord's health drain is more forgiving in "SpookEDD" compared to "Challeng-Edd", presumably as a balance to having to play both Edd and Eduardo's sections beforehand as well as the song's overall in increase in difficulty compared to the original.

There Can Be Only One: Likely Sky's mentality during the "Norski" cover, having found out that there's a girl with a name similar to hers (Skye). Adding to this, Sky is shown in her "Manifest" form, with an even angrier expression than usual.

Suspiciously Similar Substitute: A BETADCIU may sometimes opt to use Boyfriend's fanon parents created by MizanPloz instead of Daddy Dearest and Mommy Mearest, despite the fact that they're skin mods with no unique vocals; if used, Daddy Dearest's and Mommy Mearest's vocals are merely pitched up a tad to differentiate them.
