Basement is a 2D strategy game based on running an illegal drug trading operation, developed by Halfbus and released in Early Access on Steam in 2015. After an extended and difficult development cycle, the game had its full release on November 11th, 2019. You can get the game here. You can think of the premise as Breaking Bad: The Game. The protagonists, Gunther High and his friend Jesse Cash (Walter White and Jesse Pinkman Expies respectively), open their own drug dealership in order to get 7000 dollars to kickstart Gunther's idea for a video game that got refused when he pitched it to a larger company. Things start out relatively simple, but then the two get caught up in a Mob War between the local crime bosses Tupo and Miguel, and things escalate drastically from there.

Bad Boss: You yourself can potentially be one. The game outright states that there's nothing stopping you from firing people right before they receive their paychecks if you don't need them anymore, allowing you to get the fruits of their labor without having to pay them for their last day of work.

Big Bad Ensemble: Miguel and Tupo are the primary threats to the duo for most of the game, but they are rival gang leaders that are just as intent on killing each other as they are Gunther and Jesse. The corrupt Police Boss joins the fray later on, only allowing them to keep their operations going in exchange for massive bribes.

Color-Coded for Your Convenience: The different kinds of drugs you fabricate and sell are all named after various colors, Green being the easiest to make and therefore the cheapest to sell. The various factions are also represented through different colors to make them easier to tell apart, Tupo's gang being red and Miguel's being green, for example.

Prison Rape: When Jesse gets arrested partway into the game, this happening to him is his main concern when using his One Phone Call and begs Gunther to get him out. He starts the level in the isolation ward, but will be released into the general prison population after one month, which forms the level's time limit.

Getting High on Their Own Supply: Every drug dealer in the game not only takes their own drugs, the game outright encourages using this to your advantage as a game mechanic. Different types of drugs give your henchmen various temporary buffs that can give you a decisive edge over your competition.

Big Bad Duumvirate: Miguel and Tupo form one in Mission 5 after realizing that Gunther and Jesse tricked them into fighting each other while they took over both of their territories. They still plan on resuming their rivalry later, but payback time comes first.

Mob War: The main threat to your operation are rival gang leaders that will try to kill you and take over your territory, while also being at war with each other. Jesse also escalates one early on in the game to get Tupo and Miguel off their backs while he and Gunther make more money. It backfires horribly when they figure out they've been had.

Let's You and Him Fight: Jesse is really fond of this tactic, which proves to be very effective in the short-term. However, it always leads to far bigger problems down the line.

Dirty Cop: The Police Chief is fully complicit in the rampant drug trade in the city, demanding a hefty cut of the local crime bosses' profits under threat of extreme police brutality, while looking the other way when payment is done. When he figures out Gunther and Jesse have been lying to him about how much money they're making he arrests Jesse, takes the duo's entire territory and hands it back to Tupo and Miguel, since they at least always paid up. Henry is a slightly more sympathetic example, but only because he's a friend of Jesse. When the latter gets arrested, Henry shows up to Gunther's hideout and helps with breaking him out of prison. Violently.
