Possibly the most famous and ambitious mod pack on the Wii bar none; CTGP Revolution (CTGP-R for short) is a Game Mod for Mario Kart Wii by "MrBean35000vr" and "Chadderz" who curate and packs in several hundred custom tracks over 50 new cups from hundreds of dedicated fans that are not present in the original copy of Mario Kart Wii. Released as a sequel to the Riivolution-based CTGP pack, it is complete with custom game modes. It contains the aforementioned custom tracks, and the ability to play online and LAN via Wimmfi, a custom server to connect to other Wii consoles, even after Nintendo's WFC shut down. It comes with the "Ignorance is Bliss" anti-cheat, to prevent online cheaters, and for the same reasoning, the mod is also not open source, although CTGP-R's predecessor is.

The Cameo: So Many. There's a good chance you could randomly pick a custom track, and some previous character from the Mario franchise would be in there somewhere on a billboard or in-game banner ad.

Weird Weather: The Item Rain game mode has various items falling from the sky onto the tracks. There are two variations of it, one where only items that can be dropped in regular gameplay will appear (including Mushrooms and Stars), and another where every item except for Thunder Clouds can land, including Blue Shells that explode upon contact.

Bootstrapped Theme: "Fleeting Ecstacy", a remix of the Invincible tune in Super Mario 64 is used on the CTGP Channels' menu, and thus is known as the "CTGP theme" more than anything.

Copy Protection
CTGP Revolution (Video Game) / int_4156b553
comment
Copy Protection: The installation process is designed to not work on illegitimate copies of Mario Kart Wii; you need a physical copy of the game and an actual console; emulation is largely out of the question. However, the reasons for this is less to prevent unauthorized distribution, and more to protect against cheaters online (something that was very much a problem back before Wiimmfi bolstered its security), not to mention messing with online leaderboard results. While it is possible to emulate it now via Dolphin, as the blogpost mentions, it's basically inaccessible to anyone but those with the beefiest of gaming rigs.

Mind Screw: Many track layouts, such as Aquadrom Stage and Incendia Castle are very confusing to navigate, especially the latter as it funnels you through three separate chambers to the outside on every lap.

Harder Than Hard: 200cc difficulty on custom tracks tends to be extremely hard, in part due to the often confusing layouts, but other times due to the AI being extremely good.

Shout-Out: Many tracks are directly imported from past game entries, but others are from entirely different game franchises. Examples, counting since-deleted tracks, include: Cortex Castle, Blizzard Bluff and N. Gin Labs from Crash Team Racing. Ancient Lake, Haunted Woods, Jungle Falls and Star City from Diddy Kong Racing. Big Blue and White Land I from F-Zero, as well as Cloud Carpet from F-Zero: Maximum Velocity. Bob-omb Battlefield, Whomp's Fortress and Peach's Castle Grounds from Super Mario 64. Twinkle Circuit from Sonic Adventure DX. The Rabbit Hole is one giant nod to Alice in Wonderland. Rainbow Road: Solar Edition features a Minecraft-styled island shortly before the moon segment.

Writing Around Trademarks: The tracks originally from Mario Kart 7 all use different names to avoid potential legal issues. For example; Bowser's Castle is called "Bowser's Fiery Fortress", and Shy Guy Bazaar is called "Shy Guy's Market".
