Advertisement:propertag.cmd.push(function() { proper_display('tvtropes_mobile_ad_1'); })Dangun Feveron (marketed in some countries as Fever SOS) is a 1998 Vertical Scrolling Shooter by Cave.It is Space Year ○●◎○note yes, that's what it says in the manual. Admiral Gratze of the planet Melt was assigned to conquer the Earth, when he comes across an interesting little planet, Fever. Space pilots are highly discouraged from flying near Fever, as the planet is known for electromagnetic waves that can disrupt nearby spacecraft. Gratze, thinking that to be just a little superstition, decided to try to make a little pit stop on this planet, but sure enough, his flagship's sytems were disrupted, angering him when the damage disrupted a very steamy video call with his wife Aileen.Enraged by this incident, Gratze now sets out to instead declare war on planet Fever, with three heroes, Afro, McCoy, and Stephanie standing up to him with their Cool Starshipsnote the Type-A, -B, and -C ships, respectively, all of them empowered by Dance Energy!Advertisement:propertag.cmd.push(function() { proper_display('tvtropes_mobile_ad_2'); })Dangun Feveron stands out not only for its esoteric plot that doesn't care to take itself seriously, but for its unique gameplay mechanics, even compared to other CAVE games. The player is given the option to customize their loadout, with one of three different ships of varying shot width, special attacks that are performed by holding down the fire button, and the speed of their ship, which is fixed at all times (unlike, say, DoDonPachi where you can slow your ship's speed). Enemy bullet patterns are sparser than other CAVE games, but in exchange are faster, requiring the player to rely less on precision dodging and more on reflexes. Instead of trying to perform hit combos, the player is instead tasked with collecting cyborgs that fall out of enemy ships to raise their Score Multiplier, and letting any cyborgs escape off the top of the screen resets the multiplier, forcing the player to carefully balance safety with preserving their multiplier. All of this, to a wonderfully groovy disco soundtrack by Ryuichi Yabuki and Nanpei Misawa.Advertisement:propertag.cmd.push(function() { proper_display('tvtropes_mobile_ad_3'); })A PlayStation 4 port and an Xbox One by M2 were released as part of the M2 ShotTriggers series of ports in 2017 in Japan and 2018 in North America. This revision features a variety of widgets that show real-time gameplay information, two new arrange soundtracks alongside a remastered version of the original, and a new Arrange Mode.

Super-Fun Happy Thing of Doom: One of the custom mode settings in the M2STG port is "Gratze's Judgement of Love". When enabled, it sets enemy bullet speed and quantities to maximum, effectively giving the game the difficulty of second loops from other CAVE games.

Arrange Mode

Arrange Mode: M2's Updated Re-release has the Fever arrange, which implements a "safety line" feature. Staying under this safety line will tick up cyborg value by 1 every half second, all cyborgs are auto-collected, and auto-bomb is enabled as well. To disable the safety line (but NOT its effects), stay under the safety line for the first half of stage 1, and gather 140 cyborgs before the mid-point of stage 1. Once this is done, bullet speed and quantity increase, but the effects of the "Safety line" are applied to the entire screen, bombs turn all bullets and destroyed enemies into cyborgs, a radius of attraction collects all cyborgs near your ship, and cyborgs value is doubled. The same rerelease has Custom mode, which is basically Create-Your-Own-Arrange-Mode. One of the presets available for it is "Speedy", which makes the enemy attack patterns more like arcade mode but has some of the conveniences of Fever mode, such as the safety line (but only for auto-bombing) and speed control by holding down shot and full-auto at the same time.

1-Up: Compared to other CAVE games, this one is very stingy with extra lives; you get only one extra life, and that's after you collect 2,000 cyborgs, which will most likely take you until Stage 4. The Fever Arrange Mode in the M2STG port alleviates this by offering an extra life after each stage, and Custom mode also lets you set extra lives to be dispensed every set number of cyborgs.

Lighter and Softer: Compared to previous CAVE games, the game is much lighter in tone, with the story not really taking itself seriously. Instead of Super Soldier deconstructions, evil generals trying to destroy humanity, or psychic kids with Dark and Troubled Pasts taking on an evil old woman and her private military, it's three pilots saving their planet with the power of disco from a man who's pissed over a disrupted phone sex call with his wife.
