Mega City Police is a challenging 2D shooter Pixel Art action Roguelike by Undreamed Games which released on Steam on July 28th, 2023.You play as one of multiple different agents of the Mega City Police Department. The streets of Mega City are choked with criminals and lawlessness, and it's your job to introduce them to the law using as much violence as humanly possible. Sporting a Hotline Miami-esque neofuturistic aesthetic, Mega City Police is a procedurally generated mishmash of Robocop and Judge Dredd. Gameplay consists of clearing room after room of heavily armed criminals with whatever weapons you can find in chests scattered around the city. Between each level you'll be able to use the money the criminals drop to purchase upgrades and contracts with which you can earn even more money. At the end of each stage is a dangerous boss surrounded by goons, making every level's final encounter an all-out brawl for survival. The list of playable characters to date include: Rookie, a kid fresh out of the academy who has pledged to end the corruption within the MCPD. He possesses a tactical dash that allows him to get out of danger quickly and a flashbang that can stun his enemies momentarily. Cyborg, a Full-Conversion Cyborg who still remembers his loyalty to the cause of justice. He has a magnetic pulse that can negate all incoming attacks and stun those around him, as well as an auto-targeting system that allows him to forego aiming for a short period of time. Scout, a cop with a personal vendetta against the Mega-Corp after they indirectly caused the deaths of her parents. She can briefly use her optical camouflage to turn invisible and activate a laser sight which gives her guaranteed crits. Detective, a sleuth who is convinced that the corruption in the Mega-Corp goes all the way up and is determined to uncover it. He can go prone to avoid projectiles and can radio for MCPD backup. Engineer, a Gadgeteer Genius who has built their own combat drone and is great with fixing Flying Cars. They can briefly create a damage-negating Bubble Shield around themselves and can send out their combat drone to deal devastating damage. Enforcer, a tough-as-nails agent who was raised by and comes from the streets, capable of both dishing it out and taking it. He can raise his riot shield to prevent himself from taking damage for a time while also preventing himself from attacking, and can also use his shield for a powerful Foe-Tossing Charge. Mercenary, an ex-Yakuza thug who defected to the MCPD to avoid having both his arms cut off after the Mega-Corp muscled its way into controlling the Yakuza of Japantown. He can use his sword to either deflect incoming projectiles or lunge at his foes for a deadly slash. Captain, the battle-hardened MCPD commander who traveled back in time to purge the MCPD of corruption from within and rid the streets of crime simultaneously. He can teleport away from danger and re-appear where he chooses, and can call in an MCPD airstrike to flatten his enemies. Outlaw, a crook formerly unwillingly employed by the Mega-Corp whom the MCPD recruited due to his hatred of the MegaCorp being greater than his hatred of law enforcement. He specializes in melee weapons, and can give himself an adrenaline shot to boost his attributes for a few seconds as well as throw a random explosive. The game also has several post-launch updates planned, the first of which, the Prison update, released on August 24th, 2023.

Video Game Flamethrowers Suck: Averted. Not only are the flamethrower-wielding Pyros some of the deadliest enemies in the game, but the Atomic Flamethrower is an insanely good Nuclear weapon which can atomize large crowds of enemies in an instant.

Mega City Police (Video Game) / int_128e4ba8 | comment |
Gatling Good: The Minigun, Gatling Blaster, Turbo Laser and Rotary Plasma Cannon are all extremely powerful gatling guns which use different ammo. Their only weakness is that they need to be revved up, so you can't use them for quick reactions and they will stop firing if you use an ability, similar to an electro gun.

Great Escape: Occasionally when entering the next part of a level, the message "SURVIVE THE BREAKOUT!" will appear and pan over to a huge gang of enemies from the Prison who have managed to escape. It becomes your job to send them back to prison, preferably in a body bag. Managing to kill them grants you a rare weapon drop.

Mega City Police (Video Game) / int_25b5600 | comment |
Captain Ersatz: Cyborg is a very obvious one of RoboCop. He has a chrome-plated exterior and a visor helmet and he was turned into a Full-Conversion Cyborg but still has his memories. Even his starting gun looks and functions almost identically to Murphy's iconic burst-fire pistol. The skin you unlock for beating the game on Extreme difficulty with him, "Robohero", removes any plausible deniability since it gives him RoboCop's color scheme and exposed mouth and chin. King, the gang boss of the Prison, is one of the Duke of New York, being a large, sunglasses-clad Scary Black Man who rules over a prison as a monarch.

A Winner Is You: Beating the Mech and by extension the game causes the camera to pan to the sun rising over Mega City, the credits to roll, a quick stinger to play showing your character's successful mission report and that there is still work to do, and then you're unceremoniously booted back to the MCPD precinct.

The Construction Site has enemies all themed after construction workers, with co-opted portable automated nailguns and buzzsaws for good measure. The Ruins' enemies all look like Badass Biker Mad Max rejects, up to and including their bosses Bucket and Spade. The Prison's gang all wear at least one part of their orange prison jumpsuits, even if they're otherwise shirtless. Japantown's enemies are all Cyberpunk Yakuza goons. The Mega-Corp has its own security force, who all either wear heavily armored riot gear or business suits.

Self-Damaging Attack Backfire
Mega City Police (Video Game) / int_7ebc29a2 | comment |
Self-Damaging Attack Backfire: There is no damage falloff for accidentally hitting yourself with a projectile, so it's a good idea to stand far away from walls, objects and the thing you're currently shooting at when shooting Explosive weapons lest you deal 26 damage to yourself and immediately die. The Rigged Circular Saw weapon is a slug-thrower which fires Pinball Projectiles identical to the Sawyer enemy, but said projectiles can also bounce off of surfaces and hit you as well(which is almost always a One-Hit Kill), making it a Difficult, but Awesome weapon that rewards good accuracy.

Rocket-Tag Gameplay: Given that the average character's starting health is around 20 and enemies are capable of doing around 5 damage at a time, either you kill the criminals before they hit you or you're already dead. And that's not even getting into the bosses, who have attacks that can do upwards of 12 damage in a single hit.
