Mega Man: The Sequel Wars is an unofficial sequel by Woodfrog to Mega Man: The Wily Wars which is programmed from scratch for the Sega Genesis and is planned to feature remakes of Mega Man 4, 5 and 6 with overhauled graphics, remixed music and a variety of extras like playable Proto Man and Roll. The compilation will feature a "Wily Tower" scenario like the original, and it will receive expansions in the form of an EX set of levels for each remake with new bosses. As of 2023, the standard Mega Man 4 portion is fully playable as "Episode Red" and Skull Man's EX stage can be found in a previous demo released at the Sonic Amateur Games Expo. The ROM runs on both the original Genesis hardware and emulators.

Mega Man: The Sequel Wars (Video Game) / int_13d7a65e | comment |
The Artifact: When playing as Proto Man, Mega Man will replace his role as the one who rescues Kalinka at the end of Cossack Stage 4. When Wily comes in, aside from swapping the names of the two robots, his dialogue of cursing Mega Man otherwise remains unchanged, meaning that in his eyes, Mega Man "betrayed" Wily, implying that Mega Man was working for Wily, something that is at the very least, unlikely to have happened.

Ascended Glitch | |
Mega Man: The Sequel Wars (Video Game) / int_26ba32a3 | comment |
Ascended Glitch: Glitches from the original games are recognized and given amusing effects. In original Mega Man 4, there was a glitch where being in Rush Marine near the top of the screen when the tide lowers in Dive Man's stage caused Rush Marine to float in the air. Doing likewise in this game will cause it to turn into a helicopter. On Cossack Stage 3, shooting and holding the Wire onto the bottom of a platform during an autoscrolling section results in Mega Man being pushed by the camera out of the platform and into the sky, which can be used to effortlessly skip those parts of the level. This game canonizes the bug with a dedicated cutscene of Mega Man actually flying off into space just to fall back while covered in flames. Gameplay will resume on the next auto scrolling area of the stage, but if you do the glitch again then Mega Man will be killed by a thunderbolt as he flies off. After beating the Wily Machine in Mega Man 4, Dr. Wily leaves in an escape pod; this pod can be destroyed with Rain Flush, which softlocks the game. Doing likewise in this game results in him covering his escape pod with an umbrella and wiggling his eyebrows as he flies away.

Meaningful Background Event: One that serves as a Call-Back: In the remastered Mega Man 4 intro, the explosions that engulf the city during the events of the first game can be attributed to the Robot Masters of that game. Platform Battle: EX Skull Man's second phase happens on top of a flying dragon robot. EX Toad Man is fought on a platform by the sewers, with him jumping underwater to toss volleys of mines at Mega Man. Parallax effects are used to give the impression of the camera rotating around the platform for dramatic effect. EX Dust Man's second phase happens on moving platforms placed over a river of lava.

Joke Character | |
Mega Man: The Sequel Wars (Video Game) / int_8f1ec2c5 | comment |
Joke Character: In addition to Roll and Proto Man, you can also play as 'Man', which is just Mega Man reduced to a head waddling around on feet. This has multiple little changes as well: The reduced height means you can walk through 1-block high passages without sliding. All weapons are shot from the mouth, including the wire. Rush is also reduced to a head and feet, making his hitbox smaller. As characters like Wily and Cossack are affected, they have a hard time peeking out from the inside of their machines. All boss battles have smaller hitboxes, making Dive Man considerably easier as he no longer is bulky. Proto Man's whistle is replaced by the Among Us jingle. Every level starts with a small Mega Man 2 title theme jingle. In the inverse of everybody else, Eddie (The tin-can on legs that provides you with items in some stages) is now a full sized robot who charges at you before dropping off an item as normal. Presumably, as 'Man' is not 'Mega Man', the final boss ends with him killing Wily before teleporting out, leading immediately into the credits without the ending scene.
