Continuity Reboot: This game acts as one for the entire quintology, with the events of it leading into Oddworld: Soulstorm as opposed to Abe's Exoddus like the original game.

Continuity Nod: The game has several to other games in the series: One of the scrolling messages in RuptureFarms mentions a "Boombat infestation". Lulu is seen on one of the slides during Molluck's board meeting in the intro. In the wilds of Paramonia, "coming soon" signs for Splinterz Manufacturing can be seen. During the introductory cinematic for Scrabania bolamites can be seen crawling over Scrab bones. A scrolling message mentions Wildum the Slig, who up until now was only mentioned in the "Dear Alf" section on the official website.

Lighter and Softer: Compared to the original Abe's Oddysee. RuptureFarms is much cleaner, more futuristic and well-lit than in the original game, the violence is toned down (for example, the Mudokon Pops now use the art from the Japanese version, which became standard since Exoddus), and there is quite a bit more comedy added to the cutscenes.

Anti-Frustration Features: Unlike the original game, there are multiple difficulty options, you can now Quicksave in addition to using the checkpoints, Abe can now command multiple Mudokons to follow him at once, bats can be killed with bottle caps or rocks, and Abe can take multiple hits before dying and replenish his health by chanting near birds, though the hardest difficulty of the game does make him a One-Hit-Point Wonder like in the original game.
