A second game in the rebooted Oddworld Quintology, titled Soulstorm, was released on April 6, 2021. It's a re-imagining of Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus as it was originally envisioned, as opposed to a straight remake like New 'n' Tasty was for Abe's Oddysee. It also takes Munch's Oddysee's place as the second game in the Quintology, and takes some of that game's themes along with it.

Heroic BSoD: The events of the game apparently result in Abe having the pretty spectacular one we see in the intro. He's so out of it that he's not only ignoring Alf pounding on the door of the train car with enough force to crack the glass and screaming his name in a frustrated near panic, but the gatling fire from the flying sligs perforating the walls of the car as well. Subverted, he's trying to activate the amulet's power and deep in concentration. Abe gets an earlier one when, after getting the Shrykull power, is also given a vision that changes everything he knew about his species. In the Perfect ending, he reveals to Alf and Toby that all the RuptureFarms Mudokons were born under one mother but she left them there and likely others at various factories... plus she gave Abe his stitches for some reason. If they want to find out why, they have to infiltrate where she's being held: the Glukkon's capital, Nolybab.

Darker and Edgier: Compared to Abe's Oddysee, which had more physical comedy interspersed in the cutscnes, this one goes full tilt into darker territory. Not to say it doesn't have levity but the slapstick is toned down in cutscenes, with only one such instance. There's still about the same amount in the gameplay. It's also this to the game it's based on, Abe's Exoddus, for about the same reasons.

Multiple Endings
Oddworld: Soulstorm (Video Game) / int_1aa08f77
comment
Multiple Endings: Bad: Abe fails to tap into the amulet's power, with the creature inside it shattering, and accidentally burns Alf, Toby and himself alive when he trips and drops some of the Soulbrew they have near the train furnace and an ember sets it aflame. With no way to stop, the train plows into the Soulstorm factory and kills everyone inside. Not only that but the connected pipes also ignite and destroy the neighboring factories as well. Molluck, who was following the train in his blimp, kills his Slig chauffeur in a rage and is forced to go into hiding since he can no longer clear his name. If the player achieves 80% Quarma or less in six levels, the newspapers reveal that Molluck has had a substantially large price put on his head after the destruction of the Brewery, the remains of Aslik, Morguer and the Brewmaster are found with the latter given a posthumous medal of honor, while the fires from the Brewery spead along its pipelines, destroying more factories and killing their Mudokon workforces along with them. Also, the theories regarding Abe's existence are debunked, leading to Abe's legacy being completely erased from history and the Mudokon uprising being halted. Arguably the bleakest ending in the series seeing how they technically win in the end but at a large cost. Good: Abe taps into the amulet's power and the divine lighting kills the Sligs guarding the train entrance, allowing the protagonists to get inside without harm and unlocks the final level. As Abe goes to put the cure in the brew, Molluck sees his fellow Glukkons, Morguer and Aslik, arriving at the factory. He sends his chauffeur to go spy on their meeting with the Brewmaster, who blames Molluck for the destruction of the Necrum Mines and FeeCo Depot Abe and his Mudokons took out, thinking Molluck made up the story of Abe to cover for what happened to RuptureFarms in an insurance fraud scheme. Overhearing this, Molluck has his chauffeur pay off Morguer and Aslik's security Sligs to side with him and kill them and the Brewmaster so as not to get in trouble with the Glukkon Queen. Helped along that the Sligs are getting stiffed on overtime and bonuses from their bosses, with the promise that he'd fly all of them to the Yaymans (a tropical spot in Oddworld) if they do it. Mullock reluctantly agrees and the Sligs happily do the dirty deed. This allows Abe to complete his task and everyone to depart safely. If you got a perfect, you get an extra scene of the Mudokons having had to stop in a valley due to finally running out of fuel on their train but surprised no one's coming after them. Abe reveals to Alf and Toby that the mother of the RuptureFarms Mudokons is still alive but in Nolybab, the Glukkon's capital. Just as he does, the amulet starts glowing over the map again. If the player achieves 80% Quarma in all levels, the newspapers reveal that while Mudokon laborers began escaping having imbibed the antidote, the industrial society and economy have been thrown into disarray following the deaths of Aslik, Morguer and the Brewmaster, with panic buying occurring everywhere. Mullock fades into obscurity as the public focus shifts to the Brewery incident, though rumors begin to surface of his attempt to flee to the Yaymans to escape the authorities.

Wave-Motion Gun: The titular Eye in Eye of the Storm level in Soulstorm. It's essentially a giant laser that tracks you and periodically shoots at you, hurting really bad if it connects while setting the platform it touched on fire. The gist of the section is to destroy anti-chanting orbs there so you can open a chant lock.

Easter Egg: The Hijack contains one in the form of a hidden letter that simply reads "Omelette Du Fromage". Some players believe this refers to Dexter's Laboratory episode 'The Big Cheese'. In the intro stage The Raid on Monsaic flying Sligs will report the code 2319, likely a reference to Monsters, Inc. Near the end of The Sanctum, one of the spike pits has a corpse using Abe's old model from New 'n' Tasty.

Adapted Out: Outside of Abe's hand tattoos and the Shrykull, this game does not feature Scrabs or Paramites like in Abe's Exoddus. The Necrum jungle, Necrum Vaults and Bonewerkz don't appear either (although if one looks closely enough, the Bone Powder items have the Bonewerkz logo on them, implying Bonewerkz still exists in some capacity). Scrabs and Paramites were later added as background cameos in the Toby's Escape DLC, where the titular Toby sets them free. Also, though Aslik returns and has a bigger role, Dripik and Phleg don’t. Phleg is replaced by a new Glukkon named Morguer, while the Slig Barracks are managed by the Sligs themselves.

May Contain Evil: Same as Exoddus, but with a much more sinister catch. Not only does the Soulbrew make the Mudokons addicted to it, but also physically dependent on it as if they go off it after a certain time, the withdrawal will kill them. The Mudokons that escaped RuptureFarms only avoided it because they managed to bring a good chunk of the brew with them when they left... but with more joining them, the realization hits there won't be enough to sustain them all. Once Abe, Alf and Toby come to this conclusion, they know they have to hurry with their plans before their stock runs out.

Cavalry Betrayal: Ironically done on the villains' end in the Good ending. After Mullock overhears that Morguer, Aslik and Brewmaster are going to blame him for the destruction of their factories despite Abe being the real culprit (they think Abe is a fabrication Molluck cooked up to cover what happened at his own factory, going off a rumor he did it for insurance money). He has his Slig chauffeur convince their security forces to turn against the three and kill them, albeit Molluck having to agree to their demands to his reluctance. So when the three Glukkons call for their officers to come receive their orders, they find themselves facing a firing squad.

"Everybody Dies" Ending
Oddworld: Soulstorm (Video Game) / int_55cd4012
comment
"Everybody Dies" Ending: In the bad ending. If you don't save enough Mudokons in at least 12 levels, Abe's quarma catches up with him and, by a chain of unfortunate events, he burns alive with Toby and Alf in the train. Which then crashes into the Brewery wiping it off the map, killing Brewmaster, Aslik and Morguer who had the meeting there. Also, most if not all the Mudokons that the player did bother to save are on the same train as well. The ensuing fire spreads to other facilities and kills many workers there... and those who did not die in the explosions are inferred to have eventually died from the brew's withdrawal effects since there is now no source of brew, its creator is dead and the antidote recipe is presumably destroyed in the whole accident along with the ingredients. For this ending the only named cast still alive by the end is The Keeper and Molluck, who is also blamed for the whole thing and on the run from Glukkon authorities.

How We Got Here: Like Abe's Oddysee/New 'n' Tasty, the game opens with the Mudokons having already hijacked one of the Glukkons' trains and heading toward the Soulbrew Factory while tying to outrun some security Sligs. Alf, who was using the Soulbrew as fuel for the furnace, runs out and, seeing they're about to run full tilt into the factory, goes to the door of the next compartment and bangs on it. Revealing Abe in the next car, oblivious to what's happening and huddled over a glowing object. As Alf calls out to him, the scene cuts to black and the game goes back to a few days before, starting proper and the following stages revealing how they got into that situation.

Pacifist Run: Among other ways to non-fatally deal with the Sligs, you can knock them out when releasing them of possession (instead of making them explode), or tie them up with duct tape. This overlaps with No-Harm Requirement as one trophy requires completing a good Quarma playthrough with less than 100 Slig kills.

Kill It with Fire: Soulstorm allows you to do this. First by throwing the bottles of Solstorm Brew then setting the puddles on fire. Possessing flamethrower sligs gives you more freedom in your immolation. You can also craft a homemade flamethrower that is less stable and just as likely to kill you/your followers as the sligs. The bad ending has the whole Soulstorm Brewery facility explode in flames, with the fire spreading to the other facilities through the pipelines.

Oh, Crap!: Soulstorm has two; the first is Abe verbally processing the issue of having a limited supply of brew and an increasing amount of addicted Mudokons with Alf, due to the fact that withdrawal will likely end up killing them, resulting in a very subdued one of these. The other is Molluck in the bad ending; this trope is written all over his face when Soulstorm Brewery explodes. It's also present in his dialogue until his pilot says just a bit too much.

Too Dumb to Live: The Glukkons in this game hit this trope in various ways. Aslik and Mourguer both stiff their heavily-armed security out of overtime and pay bonuses, which results in Mullock being able to bribe said security to eliminate both them and Brewmaster in the good ending. There's also Mullock's plan of fleeing to the Yaymans is also questioned by the newspapers in the end, pointing out that fleeing to a popular tourist destination is kind of a stupid thing to do when you're wanted by the authorities.

Drop Pod: An interesting take that involves a dangerous (and potentially lethal) method of battlefield insertion; Sligs from inside Molluck's Blimp are loaded inside a cramped wooden box, are launched from said blimp, and then crash through solid ground, with the launched Sligs getting up from said impact, looking no worse for wear and ready for combat.

Blackout Basement: One stage has some caves where you need to use flare to see more than few steps around you. You can also use chant orb to explore your vicinity. Later you'll find a flashlight that can temporarily light your path, but recharges when not in use.

Refuge in Audacity: Played With. Alf wonders why they weren't followed out of Soulstorm Brewery by an army of Sligs. Abe figures that what they've done is so ridiculous that none of the higher-ups even believe that it's happened, so they don't react to it. The actual reason is that all of the higher-up were perforated, so no one is there to order an attack.

Cash Gate: A quite literal example in Soulstorm: some gates can be opened only by paying required amount in Moolah.

Faceship: Mullock's blimp is shaped like a Glukkon head, with the headlights standing in for the eyes, the windscreen being a giant scowl, and the envelope matches their cephalopod-like heads.

Spider Tank: Slig Mama riot suppression tanks, though they're not actually seen moving, as the first one is in the middle of a maintenance when the Slig in question is forced to commandeer it in an attempt to blow up Abe. And a pair of Slig Mamas in the final level have presumably walked to the elevator platform to attack, and since the Mudokon is already in their sights, they see no reason to maneuver around.
