Touhou: New Worldnote Touhou: Shinsekai in Japanese is a Touhou Project Action RPG very similar to the Ys games and released in 2023 for PC and Consoles with X Seed Games publishing. It is made by the same team that created Touhou Scarlet Curiosity. It can also be considered an alternate version of Urban Legend in Limbo with elements from Silent Sinner in Blue.Playing as either Reimu or Marisa, the chosen heroine awakens from a mysterious slumber to not only find her strength drained, but also in an even more mysterious world with metal birds and strange markings on the road. Upon investigating, they meet a young girl with psychic powers who declares her intent to visit Gensokyo using the power of the orb she carries that she calls the Occult Ball. However, what begins as a simple tourist visit becomes a full-fledged incident as the world of dreams threatens to overwrite all of reality as a result.

Randomly Drops: Most new equipment upgrades are found in chests or dropped from enemies. They provide a range of values for what stats they can increase. Forging equipment at Kogasa's smithy can re-roll the stats for a particular piece of equipment for a price.

Alternate Continuity

comment
Alternate Continuity: The best way to describe the game is that it takes place in a Gensokyo where the last actual incident was the one in The Embodiment of Scarlet Devil while the characters from future games through Subterranean Animism are present but did not cause any incidents as the heroine speaks with several characters from those games: Youmu, Wriggle, Reisen, Kokoro, Satori, Utsuho, even Cirno and more as if they're meeting for the very first time.

Bragging Rights Reward: Clearing all of the story quests and subquests rewards the player with enough Strength Points to fully max out the heroine's bonus stats using Nitori's Power Amplifier. Of course, by the time they become fully powered-up, there are now new opponents to fight to test that new strength out on.

Boss Rush: Several. The final story quest features three boss fights in a row with only the first one changing depending on playing as Reimu or Marisa: Yukari or Kasen, Planet Nabiru, and Sumireko fused with Nabiru. The post-game subquest "The Strongest in Gensokyo" features a set of fights against Level 36 versions of Kokoro, Sumireko, Yukari, Kasen, and Yuyuko. The post-game subquest "The Ultimate Battle: features a set of fights against Level 40 versions of Kogasa, Reisen, Doremy, Suika, and Yorihime.

Didn't Think This Through: One of Marisa's subquests has her face off against Patchouli's new rocket with beefed up defenses in case someone tries to attack it after launch. After winning, Marisa asks Patchouli what would happen to the actual defenses after launch due to the rocket being a three-stage one. Patchouli's response is a moment of silence and covering her face with her book before responding with a simple, "Oh..." Wriggle's subquest has her trying to help humans by setting up a helper and messenger service using her insects. She doesn't realize until it's too late that 1. The insects are damaging buildings when they crash through walls. 2. Humans can't understand them. And 3. Most humans (including Kosuzu) are pretty afraid of giant insects suddenly approaching them, friendly or not.

One-Hit Kill: One of Yorihime's spell cards fires giant lasers that slowly cover the arena. Touching one is instant death due to them doing 5-digit damage when the player is lucky to have even 4 digits at that point.
