All spoilers for Undertale are unmarked. You Have Been Warned!Created by Team!BNP, Undertale: Bits and Pieces was a Game Mod of Undertale featuring completely overhauled graphics — leaning more towards a 16-bit aesthetic, compared to the original's more 8-bit-esque design — new areas, new characters, new enemies and remixed music, as well as backporting content from its successor Deltarune. At the time of the mod's last update, most content up through Hotland had been completed. The mod, now archived, may be downloaded from GameJolt here.On November 11th, 2023, development was put indefinitely on hold after the director of the project was arrested for child pornography possession. Two days later on the 13th, it was announced development of the mod would no longer continue, with the mod being archived and what was finished of the "Suzy Update" released as a new unstable build. The team would move onto a new Undertale mod project, Undertale: Project Harmony.

Adaptation Expansion
Undertale: Bits and Pieces (Video Game) / int_23473ae7
comment
Adaptation Expansion: While it makes the original game prettier, it also adds new characters and new places (a sewer system and a little city in the Ruins, the mirror room and the spa in Waterfall, a minigame, a residential area and a future side area in Hotland). While the game's resolution remains 4:3, the mod adds the consoles' borders if you play on fullscreen, and some places even use colored variations: Ruins' purple border becomes gray if you go in the sewers while Hotland's red border become blue when you get to the CORE, and the Hotterland section will have a gray-blue variation of it. This mod also adds the consoles exclusive secret room accessible through Papyrus' sink: while the third big iteration of the mod contempted itself of the Mad Mew Mew battle (and the "Anime Is Real" border), the fourth added the dognations (Mad Mew Mew is only accessible after having visited New Home), and the game files include the casino music, probably foreshadowing a future inclusion in the next big update.

Easter Egg: Shadow Man, a character created by BNP mod creator Blaize, can be found via a hidden pathway in Snowdin Forest. He's quite pleasant, offering tea and a nice chat and a cryptic remark about Frisk's eyes not having adjusted yet. There are other spots inaccessible outside of debug mode where he can be found nonetheless, and he has special dialogue for that that's just as cordial. One of the many Debug-only rooms features the infamous meme character Prunsel.Explanation A giant photorealistic eyeball that communicates in a red cloud over the textbox and a droning noise. Similarly, depending on the Fun value, Martlet, a main NPC from Undertale Yellow will show up in Snowdin forest, ready for work at the sentry station.

Fan Remake: While Bits and Pieces is actually a mod of the original Undertale, it's essentially, for all intents and purposes, a ground-up reimagining of the game — keeping the same story and gameplay of the original, while also updating the graphics and (optionally) music, expanding upon the story with new areas and dialogue, restoring unused and console-exclusive content, and making various general quality-of-life improvements.

Bootstrapped Leitmotif
Undertale: Bits and Pieces (Video Game) / int_af21be25
comment
Bootstrapped Leitmotif: The unused track "Star" - which was intended for Madjick in vanilla - has instead become repurposed as a shared motif for Frisk and Chara in this mod: an arrangement of the track - "Room of Fallen Stars" - plays in the first room when Frisk wakes up in the Underground, the new Genocide battle theme - "Enemy Poaching" - incorporates a Dark Reprise of the melody, and the boss theme for the monster who mirrors Frisk in Waterfall - "One Step Ahead of Yourself" - follows the same vein by making it sound even more menacing. The main melody of "Battle Against A True Hero" and "Power of NEO" - which originally is a variation of the Waterfall variation of the Ruins theme - is also now used to represent the Genocide Route as a whole, appearing in most of the Genocide-exclusive songs (including the aforementioned "Enemy Poaching"). Toby Fox's fanmade theme song for Noisemaster - which already had part of the theme reused for "Metal Crusher" (Mettaton's first battle theme in Undertale) is repurposed as a battle theme for the Troubleboys with some additions, including replacing the aforementioned part with a new motif. Mirror Frisk's battle theme, "One Step Ahead of Yourself", features the melody of "Megalo Strike Back" - a song Toby made for an EarthBound (1994) fan album that became heavily associated with Undertale through its use in fan works.

Anti-Frustration Features: Multiple quality of life improvements have been made, easing many common complaints people have had with Undertale's gameplay: Pressing ESC will bring up a pause menu, allowing you to quickly change the settings, or quickly return to the save screen. When Toriel gives you a Cell Phone, she also gives you a pair of sneakers, allowing you to run by holding X. Fulfilling a condition for the Genocide route will cause a jingle will play. Likewise, a different jingle will play when fulfilling a condition to abort it. A Froggit in the Ruins will tell the player "how much fun they are having". This number actually corresponds to the FUN value, serving as an easy way to find out what that particular run's FUN value is, since it's normally hidden in the game's files. Undyne's pursuit will work in a similar way to Deltarune: Frisk's soul and eyes will glow red, and instead of being transported into a battlefield, they only have to avoid her spears on the map. The same works for Hotland's blue and orange lines puzzles. The Art Club now has one reunion the 10th of each month, giving you another day to meet So Sorry if you missed the October 8th reunion. After a reset, Frisk can find the Wrist Protector from Deltarune hidden inside the first room. It, of course, allows you to quickly skip through dialogue.

Game-Over Man: Every time Frisk dies, Flowey will be shown in the background and Asriel may speak in the game over screen instead of Asgore.

Optional Boss: The Troubleboys, Hitch and Portabie, are a boss duo that appear in the Sewers. However, they are required to be beaten if you want to explore all the mod has to offer, since they hold the key to HOME. The unknown entity who mirrors Frisk only appears in a secret room in Waterfall. Depending on if they were spared or killed, defeating them will grant Frisk one of 2 abilities: SHIELD and RAGE.

Gameplay and Story Integration: Just like in the base game, monsters' names will turn yellow once they no longer want to fight. This comes into play during Asgore's battle—since he really doesn't want to kill you, his name is already yellow from the start. Unfortunately, since he destroyed the Mercy button, you still can't spare him.

The unused track "Star" - which was intended for Madjick in vanilla - has instead become repurposed as a shared motif for Frisk and Chara in this mod: an arrangement of the track - "Room of Fallen Stars" - plays in the first room when Frisk wakes up in the Underground, the new Genocide battle theme - "Enemy Poaching" - incorporates a Dark Reprise of the melody, and the boss theme for the monster who mirrors Frisk in Waterfall - "One Step Ahead of Yourself" - follows the same vein by making it sound even more menacing.

Cut Short: Due to recent events that happened to the creator of the mod, the developers have decided to release all of the work that they made on the Suzy update in its buggy state. And have made clear that they are not continuing it, and that any attempts on trying to do it themselves should be not tried.
