Danganronpa: Trauma Despair is a fan-fiction series of books written and created by Dels Kibara. Originally it was titled "Danganronpa: Asylum of Despair", but the title was changed to "Trauma Despair" due to the emphasis on the themes of psychological horror. The story takes place in The Lotus Mental Asylum, a run-down asylum that was thought to be abandoned due to incidents relating to missing patients and unfortunate medical malpractice. While there has been confirmed reports of such incidents happening in the area, there was a larger, more mystical rumour surrounding the place. Something that not even the best minds in the world could rationalize. propertag.cmd.push(function() { proper_display('tvtropes_content_2'); }); Naru Ryoichi, the Ultimate Public Speaker, finds himself tied up to a chair in the supposed asylum. All he remembers before that was of the rainy day he had before coming back home to his apartment when a mysterious masked figure approached behind him and knocked him out.He soon found a way to free himself from his entrapment but he wanders the asylum, seeking answers as to why he was kidnapped in the first place. Not long after, he met with Sarah Kinder, the Ultimate Chess Grandmaster. Whilst her words and mannerism seemed like she was in a state of panic. She looked calm, possibly content even. There wasn't a hint of worry in her face. Naru introduced himself to Sarah and they both agreed to help each other find a way out of this prison of an asylum. They both stumbled into a massive center room where they met with 14 other people who were supposedly kidnapped by the same person or group. They all reveal themselves to be Ultimates, just like them.Since they're all Ultimates, Naru suspects the culprit to be linked with Hope's Peak in someway or another. But his train of thought was interrupted when a giant panoramic screen descends from the ceiling. The screen turns on revealing a man in a robe and mask, calling himself "Monokami".Monokami explains that they are all here because all of them have been deemed unhealthy by society's standards. And that they'll live here for the rest of their lives until they either "cleanse" themselves or die within the confines of the asylum. To "cleanse" yourself, an asylum patient must commit a perfect murder by killing another asylum patient and getting away with it. When a murder happens, a trial is held by Monokami and amongst the survivors. Since they're not all detectives, Monokami gives them indefinite time to their hands. And he says he is willing to allow the cleansed to free themselves quicker if they just admit to Monokami that they murdered someone. This was a ploy. A trap by Monokami.Anyone who admits to murdering another human being means they will be punished and executed. Because that meant that whoever confessed is falling right into Monokami's trap. And he has explicitly made that clear.Since everyone knew very well the only real way to escape was to kill another asylum patient and get away with it, distrust seeped into each and everyone of the asylum patients.Once a trial does start however, the survivors will have to use evidence, testimonies and alibis to find out who killed the victim. Although every trial may play out different, the end of every trial is always the same.Whenever the culprit either confesses to their crime or is cornered with evidence. Monokami announces them Guilty, and their punishment is in the hands of the survivors.Unlike previous killing games, the survivors choose whether or not the killer deserves a quick, mercy death. Or a long, slow, and painful death through the style of an execution.Once the sides have been chose, the room will split into two. And the survivors will have to debate it one last time whether or not the killer deserves mercy or not.But they're not just convincing the other side, they also have to convince Monokami. While Monokami watches as the two sides debate, a "Punishment Meter" will either rise or fall depending on which side is swaying him more.If a side chooses to give up and accepts the terms of the other side, Monokami won't automatically hand out the victory (and punishment for the killer) to the other side. And will instead think over it himself.Whatever decision Monokami makes, the killer will always end up dead. There is no way to save the killer, and attempting to do so might cause you to lose your life as well.Monokami sees this massacre as nothing more than just a game, a killing game. But a game that is justified. Nothing is done within the realm of irrational thought. His rules are thought out so that no one goes on a killing spree and kills everyone, he made sure his motives are fair and just where almost everyone would be equally as tempted to kill another person. But his reasoning can be flawed. Every single life that's lost to this game is still another life that's lost.Naru has made it his entire life's goal to convince the opposition that his thoughts and ideas are worth listening to. And it's up to him to convince Monokami that human life is priceless, and if he does manages to convince him of that, maybe he can finally stop this wretched Killing Game. This novel is inspired by the Danganronpa series. Several aspects and elements of it are taken straight from the DR series of visual novels, books and spin-off games. A visual novel of this fan fiction story might be released after the complete release of the entire book with every "Serial" chapter that describes the lives of each character.
