Half Life: Side Story: Gaiden: HUNT DOWN FREE MAN is a Half-Life parody machinima made by DAMN SON on YouTube, loosely based on the infamous Hunt Down the Freeman. It's made in the style of Half-Life: Full Life Consequences and similar bad fanfics, and their animated adaptations by djy1991, complete with similar grammar, punctuation, spelling, and adherence to the base material of the former and with hilarious visuals, voiceover and style of the latter (albeit with slightly more visible self-awareness).It revolves around a heccu marine named Moint Pan who was sent to black missa "to kill headcrab zombie and scintist and everything else," and most importantly, to "HUNT THE DOWN THE FREE MAN!" Unfortunately, Gordon Freeman quickly defeated him and almost killed him, but he was revived by Gman who made a deal with him to HUNT DOWN FREE MAN for their sake. On his journey, he also meets Adman, "who was spooky mysterious snihper," and quickly befriends him, and together they went on an adventure, facing a boat captain who was "BAD and CHRISTIAN", Combines, and mysterious man who supplied the Combines with an army of clones.The story is continued in the sequel, titled HUNT DOWN FREE MAN 2 (full title: HALOF LIFE Side Story HUNT DOWN FREE MAN Part More: Moint Pan Is Boss Even I Know!), which happens "ssevanteen years later" after the events of the first part. Moint Pan became the leader of the clone army supplied to him by mysterious man who works for Combines, and now he became the feared pirate who travels across the oceans, terrorizing Combines. However, he learns that Freeman is back, and later he's confronted by the G-Man once again, who reminds him of the deal they made to HUNT DOWN FREE MAN. Adaptation Expansion: Weirdly, the machinima actually adds to the story by addressing questions not touched on in the game. Many commentators have noted that the plot actually makes vastly more sense as a result! In the original game, Mitchell wakes up in Albuquerque after agreeing to the G-Man's deal. The machinima, on the other hand, has Moint Pan wake up in the very same room in which Gordon beat him to death almost. He then fights his way through more hordes of headcrab zombies in order to escape Black Missa and travels down to Albueruqueraeque afterwards. The original game simply jumps straight from Mitchell taking the clone factory to seventeen years later when he's on the boat. The machinima addresses the time in between, explaining that Moint Pan had become hardcore mercenary piarte and killed so many Combines Breen declared him worse than his shoe. The original game also never specified Adam's motivation- we don't know what his arrangement with G-Man was or why he betrayed Mitchell. The machinima explains that Adman was plotting to overthrow Moint Pan so he could take command of boat and clon army. |

Adaptation Amalgamation: The unique Non Standard Game Over videos in the tail-end Hold the Line sequence of the game are merged to create one trippy sequence (Moint Pan being in a tram with a bunch of other Gordons, and meeting a "highly popular charcter"), along with the ending of the game coming afterwards. Mitchell's encounters with Colonel Cue and Sergeant Harvey make up three different levels in the original game, during which Mitchell has to get to a train, defend said train from the Combine, and then escort a humvee while the commanders are abruptly killed off-camera. The machinima simplifies this stretch of the game by having Moint Pan immediately "link up" with a single group of soldiers and then lead them straight to the boat. In the machinima, Moint Pan encounters Clon Man's dagter during the assault on the rebel base, omitting the levels that occur between Black Mesa East and encountering Sasha in the original game, such as Mitchell's visit to Ravenholm. |

Plot Hole: The story has a habit of abruptly contradicting itself, though it might be less noticeable due to the script already being written to sound ridiculous. The opening sequence describes Moint Pan happily murdering scientists at Black Missa before he suddenly reflects on his inability to save them from headcrabs. Near the end of part 1, Combines Boss taunts Moint Pan by saying he'll never hunt down Freeman. Logically, up until Moint Pan explained his quest to the Combine guard in part 2, only Gman and Moint Pan's allies would've been aware of Moint Pan's vendetta against Gordon. In part 2, Moint Pan claims that Combines don't care about him during his final confrontation with Gman, despite the opening sequence describing him being hardcore mercenary piarte who killed at least sevneteen Combiens a day and killed so many Combines that they put portals in oceans so he couldn't be pirate. In the same interaction, Moint Pan also claims that all he did was "sit on boat for two decade" (complete with a shot of a grumpy-looking Moint Pan sitting on the back of a cargo ship), again despite the opening claiming him to have been pretty active in the seventeen years prior. Moint Pan is apparently able to just walk into the Citadel and form an alliance with the Combines pretty easily, despite supposedly being their number one public enemy. Despite the fact that the ocean was drained at the beginning of part 2, several shots still show the ocean being intact. In the end it's claimed that Moint Pan learned about Borerarliarles during the surreal sequence just before he returned to boat. The entire sequence consists of Moint Pan encountering multiple Gordon Freemans and meeting Eistein Scintist without any mention of Borerarliarles. note It may be possible that Moint Pan somehow discerned this from the Eistein Scintist's dialogue, but this is not made clear. |

Take That!: Obviously, the entire story is a parody of Hunt Down the Freeman. And it's definitely not affectionate. The Cold Opening to part 2 has Lanky Kong killing Colonel Cue with a sniper rifle. The opening proper has Mitchell Shephard's model (from Act 2) shown, only to be Megaton Punched away by Moint Pan. During The Reveal of Moint Pan's encounter with "Gordon Freeman", when Moint Pan mentions how the Gman used "spec-ops soldier whose face I never see", Amad's face takes on that of the infamous Ubisoft glitch face. The final stretch of part 2 makes the mockery of the original game much more blatant, through making fun of the GMan's Complexity Addiction, the story shoehorning in an appearance of a "highly popular character" in a manner that is confusing and nonsensical even in context, making Moint Pan throw off a string of Shout Outs (in allusion to Mitchell saying that Adam had his "permission to die"), and one of Moint Pan's men pointing out that reaching the Borerarliarles is impossible due to the Combin having drain ocean, so Arctic is glaciar wall surround by hundred miles dry land, a fact that the game ignored in its Sequel Hook. |

Shout-Out: The main protagonist's name is Moint Pan, which is the name of the main protagonist of First Encounter Assault Recon series, but with first letters in his name swapped. Given the fact that the machinimas are done in the style of Half-Life: Full Life Consequences, the fanfic itself was referenced several times in the videos. Near the end of the part 1, Moint Pan fights Combines boss, similarly to how in Full Life Consequences, the Big Bads of the first two stories were referred to as 'bosses'. Moint Pan even yells "GET OUT EVIL BOSS" at him, similarly to how John Freeman yelled at 'evil bosses'. And in part 2, when talking to combine guard, he paraphrases one of the most repeated lines in the fanfic: The script also likes to refer to the Combine alien invaders as "Combines," similar to the second half of the Full-Life Consequences series. Moint Pan himself in the first part is basically just an edgier version of John Freeman, until Part More where he sheds his more John Freeman-ish traits and becomes a straight-up stereotypical edgy OC. The transition to Albueruqueraeque is accompanied by the Breaking Bad theme. The Boat Captain's last line in the Machinima is ripped directly from the Arfenhouse Flash series. Clon man is depicted as Wallace. During the scene where Breen declares that "moint pan is worse than my shoe!", the music in the captions is credited as both Hangin' Out from 3D Movie Maker and Rats Theme from Rat Movie: Mystery of the Mayan Treasure. During his Rousing Speech, Moint Pan gradually changes to look like Venom Snake. Even the music that plays during this sequence is an off-kilter version of Mike Oldfield's Nuclear, with vocals sentence mixed from the DK Rap. After killing some rebels, Moint Pan has a Heroic BSoD and screams at the sky: "What is me? WHAT I FIGHT FOR?!" When cloon man's daught is abruptly killed, the event fanfare from Crusader Kings II plays. Not only is the 'you have my permission to (be) die' line kept intact from the original game, the speakers on both occasions suddenly wears Bane's mask and has his theme play. A certain renegade angel is seen accompanying the group of Vortigaunts that revive Moint Pan with their "Reptilian Death Ray" near Part More's conclusion. Upon reaching the train car in the middle of a void where Mitchell would have witnessed the group of Gordon Freemans, here one of them is Ivan the Space Biker (the beta model for Gordon Freeman in Half-Life 1) and another is Morgan Freeman in an HEV suit. Adman's utterance of "oh no" upon realizing Moint Pan's return perfectly emulates Knuckles' infamously flat delivery of the same line in Sonic Adventure. During Adman's death scene at the end of part 2, Moint Pan extends his Pre-Mortem One-Liner to reference Blade Runner, True Grit, Jojos Bizarre Adventure, and 8 Mile. And each time Amda is shot, he reacts with a different grunt of pain, including Mario's and Banjo's. |
