Harmony & Horror is an Analog Horror YouTube series written and animated by Battington. Inspired by Five Nights at Freddy's and the works of Squimpus McGrimpus, it narrates the story of a Serial Killer who murders his entire family and reanimates them as Living Toys with the help of a demon, all for the purpose of creating the "perfect toy".The first season began on December 21, 2019 and ended on October 22, 2020 with a Grand Finale that hinted at more to come. Sure enough on January 31st, 2021, Battington launched a video celebrating his channel's milestone of 100,000 subscribers in which he announced that a second season of Harmony and Horror was on the way. Season 2 premiered on June 21, 2021 and is currently ongoing.During the "100,000 Special", Battington also announced the opening of an official Teespring shop but would later close it and open a merch shop on Crowdmade instead. The shop primarily sells Harmony and Horror merch. On September 1, 2022, Battington launched a Makeship campaign for Banzo plush toys. By the end of the campaign almost 400 Banzo plushies had been created and sold.On November 24, 2023, Battington uploaded a commercial promoting Season 1's release on limited-edition VHS cassette tapes in partnership with Retro Release Video. The tapes included a short bonus episode.(Warning: Only major plot developments from Season 1 are marked as spoilers. It is recommended that you at least watch Season 1 of Harmony and Horror before viewing the contents of this page).

Never Split the Party | |
Harmony & Horror (Web Animation) / int_15adb9a8 | comment |
Never Split the Party: When police officers Jeremy and Jameson enter the Greywhinder household to arrest Martin, Jeremy is sent to investigate upstairs while Jameson checks the lower levels. This unfortunately gives Alpha (a fusion of Ava and Banzo) a chance to take the officers down individually. Jeremy was actually hesitant to split up and suggested they wait for backup to arrive instead which, considering the circumstances, would've been a far better idea.

Human Resources: Every one of the cursed toys was fused with the flesh of a murdered human victim (or dog, in Banzo's case). The Puppeteer itself is implied to be an amalgamation of several bodies fused together into a walking pile of flesh.

Trapped in Villainy | |
Harmony & Horror (Web Animation) / int_1e2af48 | comment |
Trapped in Villainy: Martin's satanic rituals gave him complete control over the cursed toys he created (most of the time, anyway). And unsurprisingly, he forced some of them to do pretty terrible things. Banzo was forced to assist Martin in trapping Gloria and Macy so Martin could finish them off. Banzo was then ordered to kill Ava, but he couldn't bring himself to do it and resisted Martin's control. This did not end well for either him or Ava. Arthur, as the Ice Cream Man, was forced to kill Thomas. It's even more fucked up once you learn that Thomas was actually Arthur's son.

Puppet Permutation: Thomas is transformed into a dummy and Macy becomes a marionette. Both are different kinds of puppets; dummies are controlled by the puppeteer's own hand, while marionettes are controlled by strings attached to the limbs and head. At least nine other victims, including Amy Willson, were also transformed into puppets.

Loss of Identity: All of Martin's victims are no longer who they used to be; they're not even human anymore. They've been transformed into cursed objects against their will, with no way to revert the change, and they can never go back to living their normal lives. On top of that, some of them are losing their memories or even their sanity entirely. Create Your Own Villain
Harmony & Horror (Web Animation) / int_326a44a1 | comment |
Create Your Own Villain: Martin may be a sociopathic serial killer, but the fact that his wife Gloria and his brother Arthur had an affair with each other, had three children together, and then proceeded to lie to Martin for years that said children were his own, might have been the very catalyst that pushed Martin over the edge into striking a deal with a demon and eventually murdering his whole family. By the time the Harmony Broadcast Incident took place, Macy had likely already been born, which meant Martin was already suspicious of the affair by that time. Because having one child with a sterile man is already a miracle, but two....

Official Couple: Martin and Gloria, at least before everything went south. A more dubious example is Gloria and Arthur; while the two of them did have children together, this doesn't necessarily mean they were a couple. It's canon that Arthur does in fact have romantic feelings for Gloria, but it's unclear if Gloria feels the same way towards him, or if she only had sex with him to give Martin children that carried Martin's "blood".

Harmony & Horror (Web Animation) / int_5db59a03 | comment |
Brown Note: Whatever the "song" is that played during "The Harmony Broadcast Incident", it is implied to be of demonic origin, considering Martin's Deal with the Devil. It's so terrible a sound that in the tape "Ar3_Y0u_HappY?", which contains part of the cartoon at the center of the incident, the segment containing it is replaced with a warning stating that if any of the original audio is present to cover your ears and close your eyes, and pray to God as a last resort. It's never outright stated what it is, and what it does if you hear it, but it's implied that at the very least, it will outright kill you. Later videos reveal that at least the Henry dolls can sing it too, and apparently will do so as soon as they're alone with someone. And then there's the fact that the first 10 Fuzzy Buddies sold were bundled with a Harmony Toys Sing-A-Long cassette tape... The limited edition VHS cassette tapes came with a joke warning on the side that reads "Any commercial or non-commercial viewing without proper protective eye or ear gear is not allowed. Be sure to be aware of your surroundings when viewing this videocassette". This implies that even watching the episodes (which exist in-universe as actual tapes thanks to Gloria) is not safe.

Beware the Silly Ones: The Toymaker is quite possibly the silliest character in Harmony and Horror. Some of the series' more comedic moments come from his interactions with Markus and Andrew. Harmony & Horror (Web Animation) / int_7f080f98 | comment |
Vague Age: The Greywhinder kids. Ava being a baby and knowing how to say a few basic "baby" words like "Mommy" and "Puppy" makes it fairly easy to deduce how old she could be, but Thomas and Macy are a different story. While they're both clearly young, the series gives very little clues as to their exact age. The only thing known for certain is that Thomas is at least a year older than Macy. The ages of the eight victims seems to range from babies to possible teenagers. It's pretty hard to tell since all their faces are blacked out during a news report in "L0cal_13". Banzo is an unusual example. Martin and Gloria took him in as a puppy before Thomas was born, which means he is now a full-grown dog. But when Banzo speaks in "THE_PERFECT_PET", he sounds exactly like a young child (a possible explanation is that Banzo's small size when he's in plush form makes his voice come out more high-pitched).

By now he's realized that Banzo isn't going to kill the baby, and he's not happy about it… It's very easy to miss, but if one looks closely at the background in "Are_Y0u_HappY", you can see the Toymaker watching Markus, Andrew, and Banzo from the shadows of an alleyway as they head for his toy store.

Wham Episode: "THE_MIRACLE_CHILD" introduced a twist that completely turned the story of Harmony and Horror upside-down and changed how everyone perceives the Greywhinder family. This episode also took Martin – a character who didn't seem to have any redeeming qualities and only killed off his family cause they were "in his way" – and made him surprisingly sympathetic, implying that his descent into madness might have stemmed from feelings of heartbreak and betrayal. It also revealed that Arthur and Gloria were not the infallible "forces of good" that the fanbase had perceived them as up to this point.

Art Shift: The episode "Thr0ugh_Broken_WindOws" stands out from the rest of Season 1 due to being interspersed with 2D drawings of the characters, some of which are downright Nightmare Fuel. There are a few moments in "My Two Front Teeth" where the cartoony art style shifts to a more pixelated style. This usually happens whenever one of the family members is killed or possessed by the Demon. Also in this special episode, there is a single scene that shifts to the classic 3D-animation style that is expected of Harmony and Horror. This scene features Sofia strapped in a chair and thrashing against her restraints. The reveal that the whole Christmas special is a dream that Sofia is having makes this scene even more horrific and sad. In the joke episode "FaMily_ReUnion", which consists of cartoonish, extremely silly-looking versions of the characters, Martin appears as his normal 3D self sitting in a chair and contemplating his life while he's having an existential crisis. The first scene in "THE_PERFECT_PET" is a video game sequence of Martin dragging two bodies into his car and driving down a long highway. The PS1 style perfectly fits the look of video games from the 80's/90's.

Monster Clown: Both literally and figuratively with Martin. He is often seen wearing a clown costume in the series and is sometimes depicted wearing clown make-up. Big Bad: Martin Greywhinder (at least in Season 1; it's entirely possible someone or something even worse could dethrone him in Season 2). The Devil/the Demon. Despite making very few appearances the demon is technically responsible for all the death and suffering that occurs in the series by having a deal with Martin in the first place. Also, when the demon thinks that Martin has failed to uphold his end of the bargain he punishes Martin by either severely injuring him or just straight-up killing him, proving he is not a being to be trifled with. Arthur Greywhinder in Season 2 (or at least whoever is pretending to be Arthur). He's basically continuing where Martin left off and has created an army of puppets and robots programmed to be child killers.

A Day in the Limelight | |
Harmony & Horror (Web Animation) / int_9c8701b5 | comment |
A Day in the Limelight: Martin's first character-focused episode was "ReSt_As5ure", but rather than be a part of the tape, he's literally watching the tape - his reflection can be seen on the screen throughout the episode. The tape is some kind of "relaxation exercise" video that attempts to soothe Martin of all his worries and fears. It would probably be more effective if it weren't for the fact that the monsters Martin has created keep appearing throughout the tape - including his brother, who Martin is now deeply afraid of. A sillier, far more confused version of Martin starred in the April Fools special "FaMily_ReUnion". Martin can't remember anything that he's done to his family and proceeds to have a hilarious mental breakdown when the family confronts him. The episode "1_2_3_C0unt_With_M3" features the Ice Cream Man teaching children how to count to ten. It's a rather unusual episode in that nothing scary happens until the literal last minute - and the episode is seven minutes long. After not making a single appearance throughout the eight-episode finale, Sofia got a chance to shine in "My Two Front Teeth", a stylized Christmas special that features charming 2D art of the characters. It was later revealed by Battington that the special was Sofia's nightmare. The Dragon made its first real appearance in the bonus episode that came with the limited-edition cassette tapes. While the episode is very short (about 30 seconds long), the Dragon still makes quite the terrifying first impression.

Ambition Is Evil: Because Martin's toys were initially mocked for not being "lifelike enough", his ultimate goal is to create the "perfect toy", which in his eyes is a toy that feels alive and real. Soundtrack Dissonance: During "ReSt_As5ure", Martin watches a tape that is meant to relax and soothe the viewer. While the music and even some of the imagery is calming, the distorted voice speaking to Martin and the apparitions of his family appearing on the screen are far from comforting. "THE_PERFECT_PET" begins with a video-game-style sequence, in which Martin walks out of a dark forest dragging two, clearly-full body bags with him. He deposits the bags into the back of his car, gets in…and starts driving down the road to some very upbeat, 8-bit music! The Toymaker when he ran out of time to uphold his part of the deal... Officers Jeremy and Jameson when confronted by Alpha. Gloria in "THE_MIRACLE_CHILD" when she realizes that Martin is too far gone, that Thomas and Arthur are both dead, and she is about to lose the last two children she has left.... An almost comical example can be found in "UIFZ BSF JOTJEF UIF CVJMEJOH" (which translates to "They Are Inside The Building"). A Henry doll tries to sing to a security guard, only for the guard to pull out a handgun and shoot it point-blank in its forehead. Abusive Parents: Even before Martin Jumped Off The Slippery Slope and murdered his whole family, he apparently wasn't a good father to any of his children. He was very distant and short-tempered towards them and refused to give them any of his toys. Poor Thomas got the short end of the stick as Martin went so far as to straight-up beat him. "THE_MIRACLE_CHILD" revealed the reason Martin treated his children so badly was because he found out they were never his to begin with (or suspected it anyway). It would also explain his particularly bad treatment of Thomas, who he thought was his special "miracle child" after discovering he was sterile. The same episode also implies that Martin himself might've had an abusive father.

Berserk Button: Martin has some serious anger issues. Even the smallest things, like Thomas asking for a toy or Macy asking for a lullaby, can get on his nerves. By extension, the Toymaker can also be easily set off, especially when people don't go along with what he wants or if he doesn't get what he wants. If the viewer refuses to sing for Sofia in the episode "D0n'T_CrY", Sofia responds by killing the viewer.

Offscreen Teleportation: In "She_C4n't_Sle3p", someone holding a camera pans back and forth between Sofia, who is sitting on a chair, and a door that someone is pounding on. The camera turns back to Sofia for the third time, only to find she has silently gotten up from her chair and walked closer to the cameraman. You only see this for a second, but it's still a startling and frightening moment. In "Are_Y0u_HappY?", Gloria's ghost briefly appears behind the Toymaker, but nobody in the room acknowledges her presence. In the next scene, Gloria is gone. In "Rebirth", Officer Jeremy finds Morgan the Organ playing music in Macy's room. He's distracted by an alarm clock falling from the ceiling, and looks back only to find Morgan gone…and something else standing in his place.

Shout-Out | |
Harmony & Horror (Web Animation) / int_c75df49a | comment |
Shout-Out: The wallpaper inside the Greywhinders' house is reminiscent of the wallpaper commonly seen in iterations of The Backrooms (both the colour and the pattern). At the end of "She_C4n't_Sle3p", a long buzzing melody plays over a glitchy image of Sofia. This is actually a really slowed-down version of the sound the Puppet makes in Five Nights at Freddy's 3 when she appears in the office. Very fitting as both Sofia and the Puppet are possessed marionettes. In "Thr0ugh_Broken_WindOws", a suit that looks similar to Freddy Fazbear can be seen on a shelf in what appears to be a warehouse. A plush that looks exactly like Freddy can also be found in Macy's bedroom. In "My Two Front Teeth", a blue rabbit head can be seen mounted on a wall. The rabbit is Bon from The Walten Files, another analogue horror series. In "THE_PERFECT_PET", we get a glimpse of what appears to be a yellow and blue ball that looks similar to the ones that often appear in Pixar's works. To celebrate reaching the milestone of 200,000 subscribers, Battington released an H&H music video that parodied the song "Mask" by Dream. The video features several references, including: A clip from Episode 1 of The Walten Files. Sammy the Seal from Underwater Wonders. A clip from the animation "Five Nights at Markiplier's" by MeatCanyon. Golden Freddy and Springtrap from Five Nights at Freddy's. MatPat from Game Theory. A clip from the video "Facial Recognition Testing" by Squimpus McGrimpus.

Nothing Is Scarier: On April 8th, 2021, Battington made a community post teasing a screenshot of what he's been working on for season 2. It's just a dark room illuminated from the bottom up, but the inclusion of bubbles makes it seem like the place in question is underwater. Battington admitted to being terrified of what he's been researching, and the fear in question sounds like Thalassophobia, which is a fear of being in deep water.

Nightmare Face | |
Harmony & Horror (Web Animation) / int_cf48c17 | comment |
Nightmare Face: Battington is often praised for his ability to create genuinely disturbing, uncanny imagery in his tapes, and this is especially true of faces. Sofia the Singing Marionette might have one of the scariest faces in the series. Her eyeballs sit in the far lower corners of her large eye sockets, and her teeth and gums are entirely exposed. Sofia's face is also reminiscent of a human skull. And it only gets worse when the top of her head and her lower jaw split apart... Her Harmony Arcadia counterpart, Magical Sofia, is also really creepy, with a huge grin and exaggerated cheekbones that make her look downright unsettling... The deleted scenes for "H4PPY_N3W_FRIEND5!" feature a photograph of Macy whose face is then distorted and stretched to look like the face of Sofia. It is just as horrifying as it sounds. After the Ice Cream Man smashes his face against a wall, an ugly crack mars the front of his face, and his eyeballs appear to be falling out. Gross. Gloria's stretched-out, screaming face is considered by many to be some of the scariest imagery they've ever seen. Gloria has haunted many a nightmare, and for good reason. A few nightmarish faces can be found in the Christmas special "My Two Front Teeth", but the worst (and most gruesome) one is an image of young Sofia after her jaw was pulled apart by the demon...

Expy | |
Harmony & Horror (Web Animation) / int_e5421161 | comment |
Expy: Since Harmony and Horror is heavily inspired by Five Nights at Freddy's, a few of Battington's characters are quite similar to the characters of Scott Cawthon. Martin Greywhinder is an expy of William Afton. Both were co-founders of a company dedicated to children's entertainment, and both became dangerous serial killers. Both also suffered a very similar, ironic death: William was killed inside a springlock suit and came to haunt it, while Martin was (supposedly) killed by the Ice Cream Man and then somehow reanimated as the Clown. It's worth noting that in both cases, they were killed by their own creations. Arthur is Martin's business partner, a fellow co-founder, and his moral foil, which makes him an expy of Henry Emily. There are a few drastic differences between the two of them, however. While Henry succeeded in stopping William by burning down the pizzeria in Pizzeria Simulator, Arthur winds up being killed by Martin and transformed into one of his creations, causing him to slowly devolve into insanity. Also, Arthur's attempt to kill Martin failed, as he was simply reanimated as the Clown. Another difference is that William and Henry were good friends, while Martin and Arthur are brothers. Sofia the Singing Marionette is likely one of Circus Baby. Both are the young daughters of the main antagonists, and they share many similar traits; both are dolls (or doll-like, in Baby's case), both have pigtails, and both of them can open up parts of their faces. Sofia also has a long tongue with a "grabber" at the end, which is similar to the machine claw inside of Baby's stomach. Banzo might be one of Bonnie. He has bunny-like ears (despite being a dog), he and Bonnie share a similar colour-scheme, Banzo's Alpha form almost looks like an animatronic, and both of their names sound similar to each other. Concept wise, Fuzzy Buddy is based off of "living" robotic pet toys by Hasbro such as FurReal Friends and Furby. In particular, it plays on the fears that many kids had of their Furbies, namely with its watchful Puppy Eyes technology and generally unsettling appearance and mannerisms. On that note, Fuzzy Buddy may also be an expy of Tattletail (who in turn is also an expy of Furby). Fuzzy Buddy's design also takes several cues from Five Nights at Freddy's animationics.

Unexplained Recovery: Averted. In Season 2, Arthur is somehow found alive – disfigured, but otherwise well enough to be integrated back into society. That's cool and all…if it weren't for the fact that the series has driven home, time and time again, that Arthur was murdered with a gunshot wound to the head and transformed into the Ice Cream Man. So whoever this new "Arthur" is can't possibly be the real Arthur…but then who is he?

Pick on Someone Your Own Size: Part of why Martin is so easy to hate is that he's not above murdering a baby that can't even defend itself. My Little Panzer: Only somewhat subverted with Martin's creations; while the cursed toys are definitely not safe to be around, some of them, like the Puppeteer and the dummy possessed by Amy Willson, don't want to hurt children and are willing to make friends with them. Played completely straight, however, with the Harmony Arcadia toys, who are programmed to attack and kill their child owners and will do so without hesitation.

Ridiculously Cute Critter: Banzo in his plush form is actually pretty adorable, if a little unsettling. He's so cute that many fans demanded for merchandise to be made of him, and Battington delivered in the form of Banzo plushies (unfortunately they were limited-edition and at this time can no longer be purchased). Fuzzy Buddy as well, which is to be expected since they're an upgraded remake of Banzo/Stitchbuddy. The only thing holding them back from utter adorableness, apart from their murderous tendencies, is their constant talking and giggling. Seriously, that gets annoying after a while.
