A Youtube series written and directed by Maximilian Christiansen, a.k.a. MaximilianDood, and was originally part of The Online Warrior. Originally based on the fighting game Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds, Assist Me! is built around helpful character tutorials designed for the intermediate-to-advanced player looking for strategies and tips. These tutorial segments are interspersed with live-action skits, starring Maximilian Christiansen as himself and featuring a host of guest actors as the grab bag of demihumans, supervillains and all-purpose malcontents on the MvC3 roster. More recently, though, Max has been branching out the series towards other fighting games, the first of which being Marvel vs. Capcom Origins (An Updated Re-release of Marvel Super Heroes and Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of the Superheroes), and he has discussed the possibility of doing the series for Street Fighter X Tekken as well.Max is joined in every episode by his roommates, the ineffable genius (or so he'd have you believe) Victor Von Doom and highly adorable sun goddess Amaterasu. Together, Max and Doom air-combo, X-Factor, and wavedash their way towards mastering the game before Galactus makes good on his threat to annihilate the world. Albert Wesker and Strider Hiryu also appear as recurring characters.Though Doom mostly complains and gobbles yogurt. Mostly.Characters tropes should be put in its Character Sheet. The series can be split thusly: Season 1: Doom squats in Max's house while the two end up having to foil Wesker's plots Characters featured: Doctor Doom, Albert Wesker, X-23, Jill Valentine Character cameos: Barry Burton (via flashbacks) Ultimate Assist Me: Doom makes a Deal with the Devil (and in Real Life, Max made a deal with Capcom...) to get Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 early and Max has to master all the new characters to save the Earth from being devoured by Galactus. Characters featured: Strider Hiryu (with Hawkeye), Ghost Rider possessing Max (with Firebrand), Wesker (standing in for Nemesis T-Type; with Doctor Strange), Phoenix Wright (with Iron Fist), Vergil (with Nova), Rocket Raccoon (with Frank West and Galactus) Season 2: More Characters drop in while a sinister plot to eliminate The Online Warriors unravels. Characters featured: Deadpool, Chris Redfield, Phoenix (the mutant), Taskmaster Other appearances: M.O.D.O.K. Retro Assist Me: Something in the past has made Max lose his fighting game skills and, with the help of the Infinity Gauntlet, Doom and Max travel back in time to make things right. Back to the Future references abound. Character appearances: Thanos, the Hulk (as Bruce Banner), Captain Commando, Morrigan Aensland Final Season: After defeating Taskmaster and co. Max, Doom and Wesker relocates to another place, however their true enemy remains unknown... Characters featured: Dante, Morrigan. Assist Me Killer Instinct: Thanks to Dante's incredible bill for his services and several other charges incurred by Doom's habits, Max finds himself completely broke. Desperate to get some money, he takes up a job with Ultratech to observe the cast's fighting styles. However, Max and Doom soon realize that Ultratech isn't all that they seem... Characters featured: Jago, Sabrewulf note The original Sabrewulf and Doom turned into Benny. Assist Me Super Smash Bros. Characters featured: Link Assist Me Mortal Kombat X Part 1: Max is streaming with Kenny on twitch while waiting for Simmons to appear with tacos. However, they manage to find an unfortunate intruder instead... Characters Featured: Jason Voorhees Assist Me Mortal Kombat X Part 2: Benny goes missing and Max refuses to stream on twitch without him, prompting Kenny, Simmons, and Steve to perform a search and rescue. But something out there was searching for them as well... Characters Featured: The Predator Assist Me Mortal Kombat X Part 3: What started as a successful short film about celebrating both Alien's inclusion in MKX and the 30th anniversary of Aliens turns into a far deadlier encounter with the third kind than any of the gang could have expected... Characters Featured: The Alien Assist Me Injustice 2 Characters Featured: Batman actually Wesker and Doom cosplaying as Batman Assist Me Infinite Characters Featured: Howard the DuckAll episodes so far are available at Max's Youtube account, Miles923.

Badass Adorable: Amaterasu, Shinto Sun Goddess, Mother of Creation, and Hiryu's summon, is a Pomeranian (portrayed by Max's pet dog Benny Button, who is trained by Max's wife Jessica, who herself portrays a fourth park extra and does additional camera work). Similarly, this transfers to Benny when he's out of costume.

Framing Device: The entirety of the comedy series is one for Maximilian's character tutorials, which have their roots in his previous series "Marvel vs. Capcom 3: The Online Warrior". Breaking the Fourth Wall: The series varies wildly on whether Max knows he's in a series of videos or not with the camera crew making frequent appearances. Par for the course, Deadpool does it to the extremes, asking the audience to vote on whether or not he should kill Max or if M.O.D.O.K.'s arms are from a G.I. Joe action figure. In Wesker's Assist Me, he shoots a member of Max's lighting crew. It's all over the place when Max does an episode with the Merc With the Mouth. Doom calls Rocket Raccoon a puppet—he and Max look at the screen—for Galactus. Due to the character's diminutive size he actually is played using a hand puppet voiced by the same man who does Wesker, as shown in the outtakes. In part 2 featuring Phoenix, the mutant tells Doom that his innermost desire is to see her and X-23 naked. Cue a cut from the crew that shoots the series psyched that they're about to shoot a naked chick scene only for Max to reveal he cut that part out for good reasons. Doom and Max get another Aside Glance in the Infinite preview episode, after Doom briefly talks about how silly the concept of eSports is.

Aborted Arc: The Infinite arc has been shelved indefinitely because of its namesake game's poor reception. Additionally, by the time of the video, Max had been getting sick and tired of having to defend his decision to enjoy Infinite for what it was, as he was getting death threats for liking the game. In his "Decade in Review" retrospective for 2017, Max reveals that he stopped working on Assist Me as a whole because the videos that took relatively less effort were getting more views, dissuading him from making high production value movies.

Book Ends: The first line from Doom starting in his Assist Me is asking Max if he can spend the night. This is his last line at the end of Wesker's Assist Me. In the Ultimate Assist Me series, the first and last episodes start the same way: Max/Doom is talking with someone on their cell phone about Ultimate, and the conversation ends with them finding someone on the couch eating something of theirs. (Doom eating Max's sandwich and Rocket Raccoon eating chips, respectively.) Also, one of the first thing Max asks Doom in Ultimate Assist Me is if he wants to go first to five in Marvel vs. Capcom 3. At the end of the six episodes, when the cursed game disappears because Max beat Galactus along with the insanity, Max asks him again.

Teleport Spam: The practicality of this with any character that has a teleport ability is discussed by Max during his vids. Wesker learned this on his own apparently, but seems to be unable to do it without drawing his gun. It can be done, but n00bs don't know how. When Max calls him on this Wesker threatens if Max wants to feel how hard Wesker can punch. He's actually moving really fast, so that allows Taskmaster to replicate his speed.

Back from the Dead: Wesker, twice. Once after Doom uses his level 3 hyper on him during their fight, and again when he relives the ending to Resident Evil 5. Complete with missle to the face. It's never mentioned how he survived these events, but Rule of Funny applies. Max, after Deadpool shots him dead. Doom uses his Reality Warper powers to undo it by changing the result of the pool that made Deadpool kill him. The Predator, who managed to survive his own Self-Destruct Mechanism and returned to kill the last Alien. Sadly, Jason was nowhere to be found.

Set Right What Once Went Wrong: The Retro Assist Me! episodes have Max and Doom go back to 1997 to help Max win a Marvel Super Heroes tournament and get his fighting game skills back. However, their actions in the past (especially Doom recommending that Wesker stay in the police force) create an alternate 2012 where Captain Commando runs the world like a police state and outlaws all villains. For the sake of bringing back the Wesker they know, they have to go back in time to reset the timeline.

All Work vs. All Play: Max vs Doom. While Max is almost always serious regarding his advice and tutorial also being cordial to his guests, Doom is solely there to throw random quips and goof around. Doom vs Wesker. One is a lazy freeloader who enjoys being a dead weight, the other does house chores, is surprisingly helpful and pays the rent. Invoked in the the Mortal Kombat specials, with everyone in the crew, including Benny insisting that Max just stay and play video games while they went off and did things.

Also, Taskmaster's reaction when he learns too late that Doom, Wesker, and Hiryu have him beat. Doom actually says this in Retro Assist Me! Part 3, after realizing that the Time Gem on his person has stopped working altogether. Wesker and Captain Commando faces prior to getting their jaws dislocated by an Arcade Stick. Captain Commando once he realizes the timeline has been fixed and he's down to bottom tier again by breaking his fingers punching Max who was actually "wearing" his arcade stick as an armor. Sadistic Choice: Parodied in Retro Assist Me!. Max has to choose between hundreds of thousands of lives that didn't die because Wesker never became a bio terrorist or videogames. After careful consideration Max chooses video games. Assist Me! Killer Instinct gives a second choice between either getting a really high-paying desk job at Ultratech and killing a puppified Doom or staying broke with Doom. He pretty blatantly quits, despite his boss' insistence that it would be a bad idea. He still ditches Doom though.

Again, when Nemesis mistakes him to be a S.T.A.R.S. agent (blame Doom) and proceeds to destroy him. Galactus, in the Ultimate Assist Me finale, when Max beats him. Doom also carries this out in Doom vs Star Wars when he finds out that in order to escape his dreamworld, he has to become a Jedi Master through playing Star Wars Kinect. In Retro Assist Me!, Doom does this after finding out that in the alternate timeline they are stuck in, Captain Commando has arrested and detained Strider and has married high-school sweetheart, X-23.

Shout-Out: Retro Assist Me is a big one to Back to the Future. Wesker's shades are Italian and cost 500$, messing with them is also one of his Berserk Buttons. In Assist Me featuring X-23 she calls Doom Al Bundy in the green tunic. Doom says that he is Han Solo and Wesker is his Wookie bitch. Doom and Wesker's rap battle mentions The Matrix. Doom cracks a joke comparing Rocket Raccoon to Star Fox. The rodent sarcastically calls that "real original" and asks if he wants to make a Pocahontas joke next. Doom says not to make sudden movements during the Zombie Apocalypse because their visual acuity is based on movement. Even Max knows this is from Jurassic Park. Doom pays his Deal with the Devil and also tries to bribe Ghost Rider in Bison Dollars, Max remarks it's not even worth the paper it's printed. Doom attempts to show Max and Phoenix his Cutie Mark In Retro Assist Me, Max brings up Iron Man's alcoholism. As well as a Take That! against DmC: Devil May Cry, DmC Dante and Doom say word for word the conversation between Dante and Poison, respectively.

Doom occasionally mocks and look down on Max even though he's staying in his home (also stealing his yogurt and beer) for free and owes him twenty bucks, Max copes with it somehow but also reminds him who pays the rent. Together they've taken down Wesker, Galactus, and Captain Commando. Doom and Wesker eventually. Even though they are always at each other's throats and mocks each other's costumes and mannerism they end up working well as a team covering their backs during the final battle of Season 2.

With the exception of the rap battle, Wesker always calls Doom "Victor," and in the EVO 2012 special, he calls X-23 "Laura." Doom occasionally responds in kind with "Albert." Past!Wesker from Retro Assist Me once calls Hiryu by his name, as opposed to most characters (apart from Hiryu himself)—and indeed, many players—who call him by his title. Doom lampshades this in the Retro Assist Me finale by introducing himself to Past!Wesker as "Victor."

O.O.C. Is Serious Business: In Retro Assist Me! after coming back from the past Max and Doom find that Thanos is waiting for them but he is acting incredibly friendly and generally nice towards Doom and Max saying to "give them a phone call" when they're done with the infinity gauntlet. This becomes subverted in-universe as Max and Doom treat this as an Unusually Uninteresting Sight, but then Max notices that Captain Commando is suddenly popular and now he realizes that he and Doom screwed up reality.

Brick Joke: Multiple ones, one example has the first part show up at the end of the Wesker Vs. Doom rap battle & the second part at the end of the Ultimate Assist Me video for Phoenix Wright. Doom's reaction to Max's much better drawing of Strider Hiryu is to throw the sketchbook through the window. Doom ends up finding it again in Deadpool's Episode while he's mourning Max's death. In the rap battle between Doom and Wesker, Wesker raps that he killed Mega Man because he didn't cut him a check. This is referenced when Deadpool shoots and kills two Mega Man fanboys who want the Blue Bomber in the game.

Shown Their Work: Max knows a lot about the fighting community and how to play fighting games. He would also never be able to do those character breakdowns if he didn't do his research first. When it came to doing Phoenix Wright's Assist Me, they brought in pro commentator UltraDavid, who is a real-life lawyer. Portraying Rocket Raccoon as foul-mouthed and a bit of a jerk is not too far from his comic incarnation. He also manages to show an interesting example of Taskmaster's skills at work by copying Wesker's teleport. To those unfamiliar with Resident Evil 5, it may seem absurd, but in reality, what looks like teleporting is actually Wesker moving very fast. Mike Young does a lot of research on the characters he portrays in the series. For example, after talking to Wesker's RE 5 mo-cap actor Ken Lally, he implemented a couple of things in his portrayal of Wesker that helped him replicate Wesker's mannerisms from the game.
