Belkinus Necro Hunt is a weekly Actual Play role-playing series using the Dungeons & Dragons system using the website Roll20. It is hosted and DM'd by JoCat on his Twitch (with later uploads to his Youtube account). The series debuted June 23, 2021, and the final episode aired on February 16, 2022, totaling 22 sessions.The setting is one of the kingdoms of the Lustrous Expanse in the year 215, the kingdom of Belkinus. It is a land that has been ravaged by war eighty years ago but was able to recover. During the recovery, all forms of necrotic magic had been banned from the kingdom. However, there are those who still practice necromancy and even performed terrorism with them within the kingdom; more specifically, by the terrible machinations of the horrifying Spine of Death cult. It stars a group of notable warriors that have been contracted to combat the Spine of Death's advance, as well as capture its leader, all within 14 days. | |

Remember that Stick of Stickiness that Nathaniel bought back at Session 1? Turns out that it was a dangerous reality-destroying object that's worth at least seven hundred gold. An un-hilarious example is (ironically) Nathaniel's "joke", telling a story about a man that gets away with murder and then, feeling invincible, decides to kill the judge that declared his innocence. In the Grand Finale, he finally tells the "punchline": it's based on something he actually witnessed as a child, and his frustration at his father not letting him use magic to get the murderer to confess led to him enchanting his own father and making him confess to necromancy. | |

He is a darker, more twisted version of who Nathaniel is. So, it is poetic that Nathaniel was the one to ruin Bloodstride's plans in the latter's boss fight by forcibly controlling him using the Dominate spell. He is essentially the Spine of Death's second-in-command. He searched necromancy, syphoning, and True Ressurection. Not only that, he has zero sympathy or remorse for either his undead nor the necromancers he uses. Fittingly, after Bloodstride's death, he ends up resurrected as a Body Horror (a failed True Ressurection subject whose soul is constantly suffering until killed again to have their soul set free) under Chandrelle's control. And, as a bonus, his undead form gets syphoned by Chandrelle during the final boss fight, treated by Chandrelle as a disposible pawn just as Bloodstride treated others as the same thing. | |

Central Theme: A overarching theme in the whole campaign is the worth and purpose of a person and their talents. A major reason why many people still flock to necromancy in Belkinus despite the laws against it is because those people feel like they are able to find success or fulfillment as necromancy could help them or other people as well as necromancy being something they are good at. A good example of this is Mirth, who returned to necromancy despite Enoch's attempts to convince him of otherwise. This theme also surfaces with many other others who aren't necromancers. For example, Craighton has shown great potential in magic. However, he grew sick and tired of the magic work and found more enjoyment pursuing tea-making instead. This theme even appears with the party. For Luna, despite being an excellent fighter, starts reconsidering her future as a mercenary when she saw Scorpio wanting to leave the mercenary work. For Enoch, seeing Mirth remain as a necromancer because of how he found fulfillment in it was the catalyst that led Enoch to finally start second-guessing his hatred for necromancers. And for Nathaniel, part of his conflict with people like Kara and even Nathaniel's father stem from how Nathaniel found important use in his Charm magic despite how other people seeing how dangerous it can be. | |

Laser-Guided Karma: Magnus hated necromancers so much, that he is willing to use the Warforges to massacre the necromancer's city of Cloveway outside the borders of Belkinus, even if that would spark a war as a result. In order to pull it off, he tried to trick and manipulate the party into helping him get access to the Warforges. This would ultimately bit him back hard. In the process of his plans, he gets possessed by a Alter, who is a far worse necromancer-hating extremist and far more manipulative monster, and gets his Warforge plan taken over by the mechanical angel. And because he is currently being possessed by Alter, the party is forced to kill him in the process of trying to kill Alter. Alter punishing Enoch by cutting the latter's arm off for just lying as a child is downright cruel. So it is fitting that Luna, who previously called him out for his Disproportionate Retribution, cuts off Alter's own arm off during a boss fight against him before Enoch finishes him off. Kara suffered this as a side effect from syphoning necromancers. The side effect for trying to absorb the magic of other necromancers is her body slowly deteriorating from every syphon, making the user slowly resemble to an undead corpse themselves. By the time the party meets her, one of her arms is nothing but a skeletal arm. Chandrelle also suffers the same side effect from syphoning necromancers as her sister Kara, but WORSE. Without magic to cast an illusion over her body, one can see that Chandrelle's body resembles an undead even moreso than Kara. It is so bad that Chandrelle is clearly dying from the syphoning's side effects, with Luna questioning if Chandrelle is in fact already dead. It goes From Bad to Worse when, after syphoning Bloodstride's undead corpse, Chandrelle's powers finally goes out of control and she transforms into an undead monster herself. Bloodstride sufferes two of them. He is known for using charisma, deceit, and manipulation to not only recruit and control other necromancers, but also other people into doing what he wants (like with The Protectors with the Warforge factory). He is a darker, more twisted version of who Nathaniel is. So, it is poetic that Nathaniel was the one to ruin Bloodstride's plans in the latter's boss fight by forcibly controlling him using the Dominate spell. He is essentially the Spine of Death's second-in-command. He searched necromancy, syphoning, and True Ressurection. Not only that, he has zero sympathy or remorse for either his undead nor the necromancers he uses. Fittingly, after Bloodstride's death, he ends up resurrected as a Body Horror (a failed True Ressurection subject whose soul is constantly suffering until killed again to have their soul set free) under Chandrelle's control. And, as a bonus, his undead form gets syphoned by Chandrelle during the final boss fight, treated by Chandrelle as a disposible pawn just as Bloodstride treated others as the same thing. | |

In the Grand Finale, Renee ordered the fleeing soldiers to call out for help from anyone who can provide aid and prove themselves to Belkinus. And in the final fight's conclusion, as the Black-Veined Queen is reduced to dust but collateral damage almost dooms the party, Ninette and Stinko arrive just in time to prevent the ceiling from collapsing on top of them. | |

Alter serves as this too, but as a far more extreme example. He served Enoch's arm off for lying, even though this was when Enoch was still a child. And then, Alter tried to use the Warforges from Chester City in order to massacre the necromancers of Cloveway, despite learning Bloodstride actually wants this to happen and knowing that this would spark a war in Belkinus. | |

Well-Intentioned Extremist: Enoch is a vigilante who hunts down necromancers because necromancy is outlawed by Belkinus and the existence of the Spine of Death, a terrorist necromancy group. However, when his new friend Mirth cannot abandon necromancy because the boy found purpose and use from it, Enoch started to feel conflicted. He finally changed his aggressive stance against necromancers when he learned that his deceased mother had been helping and protecting discriminated necromancers because she saw it as the right thing to do. Nathaniel has claimed that "the ends justify the means" as an explanation for some of the shadier activities the Witchtakers have done, such as how frequently they engage in Recruiting the Criminal without disclosing it to the public. In the Grand Finale, Chandrelle has a similar mindset, claiming that everything she's done was for the sake of achieving a True Resurrection, which helps Nathaniel realize that he can never be sure what "the ends" will be until they happen and that the Witchtakers need to be more focused on "the means", which is why he makes Renee his successor. Magnus wanted to use the Warforges to attack the city of Cloveway in order to kill countless necromancers because he lost a lot of love ones because of a necromancer. He made it clear to the party that he didn't care if his revenge would start a war and brand him as a warmonger. Kara Miharian not only continued necromancy despite Belkinus outlawing necromancy, but she also siphoned (and consequently killed) many necromancers in order to gain enough power to use True Resurrection in order to bring back her deceased sister Abbigail. After countless failures, Kara ultimately gave up once she became convinced that True Resurrection is impossible. However, her other sister Chandrelle ended up continuing the pursuit of True Resurrection, at the cost of siphoning more necromancers and creating the terrorist necromancer group Spine of Death in order to have a supply of necromancers to siphon. | |

Dark and Troubled Past: Enoch was orphaned at a young age and was raised by Samuel in Belkinus Proper. When he was a child, he lied to Samuel and then got in trouble with some dangerous people. Both Enoch and Samuel neverly lost their lives, however Alter saved them. But Alter punished Enoch by severing off Enoch's arm. When she was a child, Renee had to witness her father Luc trying to bring back the latter's previous wife from the dead. The resurrection failed, creating a terrifying undead known as a Body Horror. This scene traumatized Renee. This would led to Luc having to abandon his current family because necromancy was illegal, and this even strained Luc's relationship with Renee since Renee believed the her father was in love with his previous wife more than his current wife. Nathaniel was a young orphan in the streets until he had been adopted by a high ranking official. His adoptive father raised him and inspired him to pursue law and justice. However, there was a case where a murderer that had been declared innocent decided to kill the judge of his case just because he felt invincible for escaping his crime. Nathaniel wanted to use his charm magic to make the murderer confess, but his father denied him that. Frustrated, Nathaniel got rid of his father by using charm magic to make his father falsely admit to necromancy. Since then, Nathaniel got a good reputation for exposing a "necromancy" and eventually became the Witch Taker. Julius, the former necromancer that Nathaniel recruits alongside Cyril, was also a former member of the Protectors, a band of extortionists. When Nathaniel asks him for information pertaining to his past to aid in the current investigations, he's hesitant to discuss that part of his past. Kara and Chandrelle used to be closed to each other and to their other sister Abbigail. However, during the war, the two sisters lost their sister Abbigail due to the enemy kingdom using necromancy for their forces. This would led the two remaining sisters to drift apart as Kara pursued True Resurrection to resurrect Abbigail and Chandrelle rose through the ranks in Belkinus' politics. Eventually, Kara gave up on True Resurrection after deeming it impossible (retreating to a quiet life in Cloveway) while Chandrelle end up pursuing True Resurrection herself. | |
