Are you interested in watching a guy with glasses scream about Swedish movies, or another guy cooking horribly disgusting food, then serving it to his friends, all accompanied with broad accents and a truckload of awful puns? Then you've come to just the right place.Monte Fjanton is a Swedish Youtube channel with a main focus on comedy that has covered a lot of different projects through the years, but is always recognized through a large amount of snark, Take Thats, running gags, puns and comedic overreactions.Their most popular project is called Felix Recenserar, which is a Video Review Show focusing (almost) solely on Swedish movies and foreign movies dubbed to Swedish. They also make Basses Rätt i Skafferiet (called Basse Cooks Stuff in the English subtitles for the earlier episodes), which pokes fun of cooking shows by having the premise be to cook something disgusting, then have people try to eat it.Some of their minor projects include Mystikhörnan (called The Mystery Show in the English subtitles for earlier episodes), which is one of their few works to have a scripted plot (though not a very comprehensive one) poking fun at conspiracy theories, Midnatts-Let's Play, which is best described as an unscripted vlog with Let's Play elements, Felix Recenspelar, which is similar to Felix Recenserar but focuses on video games that aren't necessarily Swedish. They also do vlogs from time to time.Their Youtube channel can be found here.

Staging an Intervention: At the beginning of the review for Sune i Fjällen, Felix gets confronted by his friends who tell him that he can't avoid reviewing the movie any longer and eventually has to do it, especially since almost every second comment on YouTube was "When will you review Sune i Fjällen?".

The Danza: Discussed in the review for Blå Måndag. Actress Eva Röse's character is also named Ewa, just with a W instead of a V, Felix says that it feels weird when the actor and character share the same name and that it makes the other characters come more across as talking to Eva Röse rather than the character she plays, taking the viewer out of the experience of watching the movie.

MonteFjanton (Web Video) / int_20f689e9 | comment |
Adaptational Villainy: Wabuu the Racoon. In the original Dingo Pictures movies he's meant to be a Jerk with a Heart of Gold, but Felix in his reviews plays up his jerkishness to present him as downright evil and sadistic. When Wabuu actually appears in (poorly-animated) person in later episodes of Felix Recenserar, he's characterized as an Affably Evil Reality Warper, bordering on Eldritch Abomination, who forces Felix to watch Dingo Pictures movies because he enjoys watching him suffer.

Black Comedy: Mystikhörnan rarely shies from cracking jokes, even when the group desecrates a grave in season 2... And the coffin turns out to be made of plywood because "it was either this or dumping [them] in a ditch." Lampshaded when Felix reviews 15: det är mitt liv. Since his reviews about the series are heavy on the snarky comedic commentary and some of the episodes tackle pretty heavy topics, he ends up saying "so, uh... Funny jokes coming up!!" in a rather distressed tone before tackling one of the worse episodesnote in terms of subject matter with a Black Comedy Burst. Artifact Title: According to their NärCon Sommar 2015 Q&A, their channel name is one. The name was basically meant to evoke Monty Python while having a silly twist to it, as "fjant" is a Swedish term for a silly person. However, their works have very little to do with Monty Python nowadays. Felix and Basse remember thinking the name was bad and considering changing it, but then realized the Felix Recenserar episode on Hip Hip Hora was absolutely blowing up and that their channel name had become their brand name, and that they were stuck with it, like it or not. That being said, they couldn't come up with any better name ideas for their channel when they were considering changing it. While the first episodes of Basse and Felix's Midnatts-Let's Playnote lit. Arch-Enemy: Wabuu the Raccoon, being the mascot for Dingo Pictures, is sort of set up as this for Felix. He appears in a number of title cards to Troll Felix, and in the Djurens Konung review, he shows up (with his official Swedish voice actor reprising the role) to whisk Felix into an alternate dimension where he owns nothing by Dingo Pictures movies. and refuses to let him go home before he's reviewed another Dingo Pictures movie. Pun-Based Title: Basses Rätt i Skafferiet is one: it's a spoof on the name of the Swedish children's rights organization Barnens Rätt i Samhället. Both share the same acronym and use the word "rätt", but with different meanings.note While more literal translations of the two would be "Children's Rights in Society" and "Basse's Recipe in the Pantry" respectively, the word "rätt" is used both for Rights and Recipe in Swedish. MonteFjanton (Web Video) / int_4f4372e9 | comment |
Early-Installment Weirdness: The two first episodes of Felix Recenserar were recorded in 2010, when the series' proper debut was one year later, and it shows. The first episode has Basse doing some of the commentary on screen instead of Felix, which hasn't happened since. The second episode is recorded at a graveyard, and covers a foreign movie that hasn't been dubbed to Swedish, that being Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives. It's also the shortest episode of Felix Recenserar to date. The creators made English subtitles through closed captioning for the first two episodes of Mystikhörnan and some early episodes of Basses Rätt i Skafferiet. (Later videos sometimes have community-contributed subtitles, but this is fairly rare and at least one of those were just a Gag Sub.)

Interface Screw: Their fifth Q&A stream ended up being this. It started innocently enough, with a viewer asking Basse, Felix and Figgehn to name their favorite angle grinders, which they did and proceeded to demonstrate by adding images of said angle grinders to the stream. But as time went on, playing off of viewer questions, they added images or videos of reality star Bärgar-Berra, fellow Youtuber Pontus Rasmusson, "Johan Nilsson" (presented as the channel member, but in fact just an image of another guy pulled from Google) and "Macke" (actually an image of Basse, as it came up when searching for Macke's name), complete with their angle grinders of choice as well. The result looks like a browser that's been heavily afflicted with malware,◊ especially because the images start overlapping with the chat history to the right.

Wham Episode: S1E07 of Mystikhörnan qualifies, as it ends with the Demon King Baram betraying Morgan and Kenneth mysteriously disappearing, and presumed dead. From this episode on, it's apparent that this is no longer a lighthearted jab at conspiracy theories, but a story taking place in a Crapsack World where not only are Morgan's theories true, but the reptilians are pursuing him because of his studies. "Seinfeld" Is Unfunnyinvoked: Felix argues that this is the reason Show Me Love was the winner of a poll deciding which movie he should review during December 2013; while the film is relatively well-made, it created the mold for Swedish YA fiction during the Turn of the Millennium, leading to this trope happening to people exposed to YA fiction made during this time period.

Berserk Button | |
MonteFjanton (Web Video) / int_bc74ef27 | comment |
Berserk Button: Felix absolutely loathes Swedish actor Helena Bergström and the fact that she has a successful career. He has stated multiple times that he thinks she's the worst Swedish actor of all time, and that he believes the only reason she keeps getting new jobs is due to nepotism through her husband Colin Nutley, or as Felix himself puts it, "she fucks the director". Felix has also expressed dislike for numerous of the films he's reviewed, the reboot of the Sune films, the Åsa-Nisse franchise and the Barbie films in particular. Being requested to review things that don't fit his criteria is also a sore spot for him. For a film to be considered being reviewed for Felix Recenserar, it has to be Swedish (or dubbed to Swedish), it has to be a film and it has to be bad. Though he has reviewed a few tv series and a few movies he believes to be good, those reviews are still very rare, and he has only deviated from the criteria of a movie having to be Swedish/dubbed to Swedish exactly twice, and even then, one of the times, it was due to Early-Installment Weirdness. Felix has stated that his focus on Swedish films is what puts him apart from other Video Review Shows, and without that, there's nothing that would make Felix Recenserar interesting compared to similar shows. It bothers him so much that at one point, he even made an April Fools review of the first Twilight movie, where he's off camera most of the video, not even watching the movie, then ending the video with emphasizing that he will never review Twilight, nor The Room (2003) or any other foreign films that haven't been dubbed to Swedish. The amount of (badly done) Toilet Humour in the 2000's Sune movies and theatre special is also a point of contention and mockery in the reviews, to the point where they mention Sune vs. Sune not using any of it as one of the reasons it's much better than the other ones.

Hercules from Dingo Pictures gets called "Herr Kukless" (Mr Cockless) at one point. Downplayed in Mystikhörnan. In a flashback, Leffe tells Morgan that he doesn't want to be called that, yet Morgan insists on doing that over the course of three seasons; the nickname itself isn't malicious, but the fact Morgan keeps using it against Leffe's wishes (and usually while telling him to shut the hell up) is.

MonteFjanton (Web Video) / int_ee8fb6c2 | comment |
What Do You Mean, It's Not Political?invoked: Felix goes into this during Djurens konung. Both during Första intrycket and the review proper, Basse and Felix joke that the film's aesop is that Democracy Is Bad and the jungle is best ruled by an authoritarian dictator, based on the clever snake quoting Karl Marx and other politicians, and how the king taking back the throne is seen as a good ending. The review also points out that the villain called Bokassa easily could be a reference to Jean-Bédel Bokassa, who ruled over the Central African Republic for a few years in the 1900s until a coup. Of course, this being a Dingo Pictures film, one can never be sure if any of these allegories was intentional on the film-makers' part.

Food Porn: Parodied in Basse's Rätt i Skafferiet. A lot of the food is shown in a way that invokes the feel of the trope, but since Basse cooked the food, it doesn't have that effect.

Running Gag | |
MonteFjanton (Web Video) / int_f9f2c33 | comment |
Running Gag: As Felix and Basse are fond of using Call Backs to previous episodes, some turn into outright running gags with time. And they do this a lot: In Felix Recenserar: Saying that the movie ends before it actually does, then cutting to the credits with Push it to the Limit playing in the background (harking back to the very first episode). Felix often brings up his love for Swedish celebrity Harald Treutiger. Explaining plot holes in the reviewed movies using off-the-wall theories, which may get questioned by Basse. Komo's death scene appears very frequently in Felix Recenserar, to the point that it was one of the main running gags before Felix had actually seen the movie in the first place. Playing "I Will Remember You" by Sarah Mclachlan over an "obituary" for a character who dies in the movie was a common gag in the early years. The phrase "it starts with a cigarette, right", which makes fun of movies that utilize Scare 'Em Straight. It's often accompanied with a purple, contrasted filter and dramatic music, and may or may not be followed up with the outlandish consequences of smoking said cigarette. In the Julekalender reviews, Felix will wear the same shirt for the first 23 episodes, only changing to another for the last episode. This may or may not be lampshaded. While reviewing films by Dingo Pictures, Felix has a tendency to re-use the clip of a nun from their take on Hunchback of Notredame saying "vanskapt apa" (misshapen ape) to describe other Off-Model characters. Felix appears fond of calling groups of characters "grabbarna grus"note literally "the gravel guys", but typically an expression that can be used in a similar way to calling somebody a rascal, especially when the protagonists and their friends have done something dumb (such as Tsatsiki and his friends breaking into a closed swimming pool in Tsatsiki: vänner för alltid). In Basses Rätt i Skafferiet: Mustard powder almost always finds it way into the recipe. The word "skvättika"translation A pun which combines the words "skvätt ättika", which mean roughly "a splash of spirit vinegar", into one shows up a lot. There are also many mentions of "the concentrated/copyrighted BRIS taste", a taste so fundamentally disgusting that it prompts reactions like spitting or gagging. In their various Vlog series: Every time they stay in a hotel room on tour, Felix always seems to end up with the worst bed. In their 2019 summer tour Vlog series, there was a recurring joke where they would call out various brand names they spotted in public only to clarify that they are not sponsored by said brands. The crew likes to joke that Macke either has been or is currently being eaten by wolves to lampshade his tendency to not appear in the channel's videos for certain stretches of time.

Shown Their Work: When it wants to, Felix Recenserar can actually be very educational. Most episodes will have Felix explaining the backstory for the film, and depending on the movie at hand, the backstory can have very interesting tidbits about Swedish culture and film history. Given you know the language, Felix Recenserar is probably the best resource on Swedish culture a foreigner could ever ask for.
