Overanalyzing Avatar is a series of videos humorously recapping all episodes of Avatar: The Last Airbender, while the recapper talks about whatever the heck he feels like saying on it. Often regarding very subtle details that only a fan who’s rewatched the whole series many, many times would notice. Both for the purposes of nitpicking minor errors ‘’and’’ commending the show for its attention to detail. The series can be found on the channel of the same name here. There are also season recap videos labeled "Underanalyzing Avatar", similar to Dragon Ball Z Abridged's Dragon Ball Z: Kai Abridged. After the completing his review of the original series, he would continue to explore the rest of the franchise, reviewing both the comic book series by Dark Horse Comics and the Sequel Series The Legend of Korra. The channel would also expand to "overanalyze" other miscellaneous topics, such as cryptids.

Freeze-Frame Bonus: A big part of his videos is pointing these out. Like: The burning apple on top of Mai’s head in one of the flashbacks in “Zuko Alone starts to subtly blacken around the top, where the flame is. When Aang, Katara, Toph, and Zuko are throwing their respective elements at Azula near the end of “The Chase, you can actually see that Sokka lobbed his boomerang at her too. When Sokka reunites with the men from The Southern Water Tribe in “Crossroads of Destiny, you can see one of them holding his hand out to see how tall he’s gotten. During Katara and Hama's fight in "The Puppetmaster," you can see their reflections in the water droplets when Katara preforms her big block move. Also, he often looks for the scar at the bottom of Aang's foot, where Azula zapped "Avatar: The Last Airbender "The Crossroads of Destiny"" whenever the underside of his foot's shown. Noting that they are actually surprisingly consistent about including it, despite it being such minor and very easy to overlook detail.

Fisher King: He points out how The Last Airbender does not fall into the trap of portraying Ozai like this, as besides the fishing village in "The Painted Lady", most of the locales in the mainland Fire Nation are rather peaceful and prosperous. Contrast the Earth Kingdom where, due to the war with the Fire Nation and an ineffective bureaucracy, poverty is disturbingly common.

Establishing Character Moment
Overanalyzing Avatar (Web Video) / int_7febc23b | comment |
Establishing Character Moment: He regularly judges how much a major character's introduction into the story accurately reflects the personality they showcase throughout the story. He generally sees the writers as doing a good job of this, but occasionally notes how some introductions end up highlighting a relatively small part of the character, such as Bolin being introduced as The Charmer, which while accurate given his obsession with love, is secondary to him being an idealist manchild. On the flip side, he considers Mai's introduction to be to much on the nose, and thinks that her sigh of boredom after the Gaang escapes captures her character better then the "slam poetry" she delivers in her opening lines.

Caustic Critic: Mostly averted for the Last Airbender videos, as well he does throw a lot of shade for petty issues, he balances it out with plenty of praise. Played straighter for the Korra videos, as he is very up front that he has a number of problems with Korra, from the writing to the changes it makes to the Avatar world, but he doesn't outright hate it and still pays it complements when deserved.

Big "NO!": After hearing Ty Lee’s line about a Kyoshi Warrior she’s fighting not being “prettier than her in “Appa’s Lost Days, he takes a moment to remind the viewer how hard it is for men to write dialogue for girls… until he realizes the main writer of the episode was a woman. Overanalyzing Avatar (Web Video) / int_c75df49a | comment |
Shout-Out: "The Swamp" has this line when vines comes to drag Sokka away: "Zuko Alone" has Game of Thrones, of all shows, comes up a few times. He also mentions "Clint Eastwood films" when talking about the episode's western inspiration. Early in "The Chase", he compares it to Mad Max: Fury Road. And the stand off between Aang, Azula, and Zuko at the climax is intercut with clips of the climatic stand off from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Points out the obvious parallels between "The Beach" and "The Breakfast Club" when the kids are having their heart-to-heart around a campfire. Played for Laughs when he mentions how "The Headband" is inspired by Footloose, claiming that it's at most 10% Footloose and that Kevin Bacon isn't even in it.

Overanalyzing Avatar (Web Video) / int_f9f2c33 | comment |
Running Gag: Him taking digs at Aang for losing his staff. Him explaining how Zhan Wei Fu (the name he gives to the recurring, generic Fire Nation Soldier design) manages to show up in every location by way of job changes and other such life events, with him explaining away multiple instances of the character in the same scene as imposters. "Aang do be spinnin' his staff/twirlin' his stick though" during the show's earlier fight-scenes. Dramatically pointing out whenever a normal, non-fusion type animal appears. Complaining about the show's "moon continuity." Specifically, how often full moons are shown, in spite of how full the moon was in a previous episode. This gag continues in his Korra videos, with OA even stating that he's keeping a tally this time. Pretending to not recognize The Cabbage Merchant from previous episodes. This also carries over into his Korra videos and the Cabbage Corps. Reusing the clip of Aang saying "He's right" when appropriate. "There are just as many [X] episodes as there are Bloodbending episodes." Following "The Headband," he'll have the wildly dancing kid hidden in most of his videos as a Funny Background Event. He also dubs the famous "Hello, Zuko here" line in a few times during the episodes after ''The Western Air Temple'', whenever Zuko makes a dramatic appearance. For his video on "Nightmares and Daydreams", "He's [x]-ing the fuck out of that [y]. Now that's good training." for any of Aang's sleep-deprived training. For his The Legend of Korra videos, he sneaks in "Silhouette" from Naruto whenever characters are doing a Ninja Run. Meta example: Giving extremely bizarre yet hilarious shout outs to his Patreon supporters subscribed to his "I Have 'Fuck You' Money" tier at the end of each video.
