The Amazing Digital Circus: Freakshow AU (also known as The Amazing Digital Freakshow) is a Dark Fic/webcomic series created by hootbon, based on The Amazing Digital Circus.A darker version of the series focusing more on horror and gore, the story starts the same as the original: Caine was originally a kind AI who attended the poor souls trapped within the Amazing Digital Circus in order to accomodate them despite their harsh situation. One day, however, when Ragatha arrived, a string of code akin to a virus infected whatever it could get its hands on, with Caine being its first victim. Over time, this code distorted his personality, his memory bank and even his looks into this nightmarish version of himself, along with messing with the filtration system of the game. By the time Pomni, the newest addition to the game, arrived, the place was now a Circus of Fear, with the staff being twisted versions of themselves called "freaks".Basically, think Horrortale meets The Amazing Digital Circus, which funnily enough, it's what the creator herself said.The comics can be read on hootbon's Tumblr page here. |

Darker and Edgier: While the original series isn't as light-hearted as it looks, as it explores themes such as Existential Horror, insanity and the downsides of immortality, much like a pink-colored version of I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream, this AU takes things up to eleven, as the AI who tries to accomodate the trapped souls in the circus gets corrupted, almost everyone is hostile, if not outright deadly, and the series' Black Comedy and Toon Physics gets removed and replaced with horror and gore. |
