This Filmation series on CBS was an early successor series to The Archie Show. As a Framing Device, Archie and his friends worked at a Riverdale television station. The real purpose of the program, however, was to showcase these animated adaptations of newspaper comic strips:Advertisement:propertag.cmd.push(function() { proper_display('tvtropes_mobile_ad_1'); }) Broom Hilda The Captain and the Kids (based on The Katzenjammer Kids) Dick Tracy The Dropouts Emmy Lou Moon Mullins Nancy (and Sluggo) Smokey StoverThe Fabulous Funnies, also produced by Filmation in 1978, was a later series on NBC with a similar concept with nearly all the strips featured from TV Funnies, (all except for Dick Tracy, The Dropouts, Moon Mullins, and Smokey Stover) and included Alley Oop and Tumbleweeds . For its Framing Device, Foozy of Alley Oop acted as host introducing the various segments.

Truer to the Text: The Dick Tracy segments are much more faithful to the original comic strip than The Dick Tracy Show

Secondary Adaptation: This cartoon is a Spinoff of The Archie Show, using the same characters to provide a Framing Device to air adaptations of other Comic Strip stories. The Archie Show is based (in part) on a radio series, called The Adventures of Archie Andrews, which itself is based on the Archie Comics which began in The '40s.
