Secret Squirrel is a series of Spy Fiction parody cartoon shorts made by Hanna-Barbera in 1965 as the lead segment of a Three Shorts series that also featured Squiddly Diddly and Winsome Witch. It was later revived in 1993 as Super Secret Secret Squirrel, in another Three Shorts format headlined by 2 Stupid Dogs. Secret Squirrel was voiced by Mel Blanc in the original version and Jess Harnell in the reboot. Paul Frees voiced Morocco Mole initially, while Jim Cummings (1952) handled the character's vocal duties in the 1990s remake, in both cases strongly reminiscent of Peter Lorre. In both versions, Secret Squirrel is a Funny Animal spy. Along with his sidekick, Morocco Mole, he fights crime.A Hanna-Barbera Beyond version of Secret Squirrel was a back-up strip in Scooby Apocalypse.

The Cameo: 2 Stupid Dogs are two of the anthropomorphic guard dogs for the museum in "Chameleon". They also appear as their usual selves in "Scirocco Mole", along with Yogi Bear and Boo Boo. "Agent Penny" has an "Undercover Pub" peppered with portraits of Hanna-Barbera crimefighters as well as cameos by Snooper and Blabber, Hong Kong Phooey and Undercover Elephant. Reversing the situation, Secret Squirrel and Morocco Mole star in a dog biscuit ad featured in the 2 Stupid Dogs episode "Let's Make a Right Price".

No-Harm Requirement: Played with in the episode "One-Ton". Secret is given orders to stop a criminal panda from destroying China Town. However, the Chief gives him orders to not harm the panda because panda's are Endangered Species which makes things rough as he's a Jerk With A Heart Of Jerk. Eventually Secret stops him by getting him to beat himself up. Puff of Logic: In "Quark", Secret uses a dictionary to point out that quarks are defined as "a hypothetical subatomic particle", concluding that the titular microscopic villain can't achieve his own goals if he is yet to be proven to exist, Quark struggles with his existential crisis before disappearing entirely. This is a bit of a goof on Hanna-Barbera's part - even by The '90s, quarks had already been proven to exist. With just a bit more research, Secret could have instead pointed out the impossibility of Quark existing alone.

Dogs Hate Squirrels: In "Catty Cornered," Secret Squirrel and Morocco Mole have to secure a cat who's swallowed an explosive capsule. However, the efforts to keep it safe are constantly thwarted by a mean dog who keeps attacking the cat. Eventually Secret Squirrel is able to get rid of the pooch with a bone, thereby saving the cat. However, this is not without consequences. Morocco Mole suffers quite a few Amusing Injuries and when the professor reveals that the cat had actually not eaten the capsule at all, the mole snaps and begins acting like an angry dog. Mask Power: Secret's hat fulfills this role, coming down below his eyes yet still showing them. In the episode "Agent Penny", he trades it for a variety of likewise indigo low-slung headgear. In "Doctor O", he actually discards a smashed and broken hat...to reveal an identical replacement underneath. When Morocco ends up wearing it in "Platypus", it's his nose which pokes through. Secret is seen maskless a few times though. In "Goldflipper," he does not wear it as part of his Squirrel Scout outfit, and is bare-faced. And in "Scirocco Mole", the hat is partially sucked off by a vacuum cleaner, briefly showing us Secret's face in a Freeze-Frame Bonus.

In Dr. O's episode, however, it's stated that they've had previous encounters before. Secret Squirrel and Morocco Mole use a map of villains' lairs in "Dr. O". Hot Rodney, a rooster, is at one point distracted from the race when Secret shoots corn in his direction. Hot Rodney stops to eat the corn by bending over and pecking it like a real rooster would. Doctor O has two bats as henchmen. Which Morocco stripped off, via voodoo doll. The Voodoo Goat himself secretly wears underwear beneath his loincloth. And, oddly enough, Secret removes a pair of shorts when changing behind a screen in "Agent Penny". One of the things Secret is made to say by the villain in "Quark" to make him seem as though he is insane was "I'll do a jig in my undies, Chief." Despite the fact he wears no "undies."

Hoist by His Own Petard: After Hot Rodney wins the race, Secret gives him the same dynamite belt he strapped to Morocco Mole while claiming that it is a victory belt. Hot Rodney proceeds to don it and ride off into the distance before the belt blows up. Voodoo Goat must have something belonging to a victim for the doll he crafts after. He made a Chief Doll and stole his pipe. He later takes control of Secret Squirrel using a bit of fur from Secret's own fan club. Secret gets back at him by stealing his underwear for his one doll. Voodoo is ultimately defeated when Morocco Mole throws the doll of the Chief at Voodoo's doll, causing the Chief to ram into him. He cut off the Secret doll's head but it never took effect because the Chief accidentally ate his fur. Chameleon has the power to blend in with art. While he can do so effortlessly in classical art, he becomes disoriented when dealing with the abstractness of modern art. Secret weaponized a room full of the latter as Chameleon never even touched it, then trap him in one so he wouldn't escape. Secret is ordered to capture the criminal One-Ton Panda. The problem? He needs to accomplish this without harming him due to his protective status as an endangered species. The solution? When all of his peaceful efforts failed, he has the panda beat himself up. The payoff? Secret can arrest him for "endangering an endangered species" (One-Ton himself). Greg, an evil gingerbread man, uses an army of ants to steal vast amounts of sweets. His goal is to make an giant gingerbread man to eat kids out of revenge, only to be completely eaten by Secret and Morocco. His ants soon lose control by hunger and proceed to eat him.
