Stked is a Canadian animated sitcom produced by Fresh TV, the creators of 6teen and Total Drama. With many of the same people who worked on those shows being involved in the production of this one, the series also features many of the key elements of its predecessors, following and affectionately lampooning the teenage experience for a tween/young teen audience. The show follows a sextet of teen surfers ("groms") who have all come together to work for the summer at the world-renowned Surfer's Paradise Ridgemount Resort on Sunset Island off the coast of British Columbia, Canada. The group consists of newcomer Emma, seasoned surfers Reef and Fin, Sunset Island locals Broseph and Johnny, and Lo, the daughter of Ridgemount Resort's owner (who has been forced to get a summer job as punishment for trashing her dad's hotel in a massive last-day-of-school party). All of them are stoked to have the summer of their lives working at the legendary resort, surfing the island’s fantastic waves for themselves, and experiencing the endless summer that every surfer dreams of. Unfortunately, what they instead find at Surfer's Paradise are grueling and thankless jobs, a rundown staff house, and a tacky tourist trap of a resort clearly designed to cater to "kooks" (wannabe surfers). For the next twelve weeks, Emma, Reef, Fin, Broseph, Johnny, and Lo will spend their first summers working and away from home toiling harder than they ever have before under harsh supervisors and obnoxious customers all while dealing with the classic trials and tribulations of being a teenager, like romance and friendship. But even if their jobs are far from ideal and their boss is a serious bummer, these six friends will still find wicked waves to ride and gorgeous beaches to enjoy, and most importantly, they will always find a way to seize the opportunity to SURF whenever they can.Stked premiered on Teletoon on June 25th, 2009 and ran for 52 episodes spread out over 2 seasons, coming to an end on January 26, 2013. Overseas, the show is also remembered for its time on Cartoon Network in the United States (one of numerous Canadian imports CN was picking up during the late 2000s and early 2010s), although it failed to perform as well as either Total Drama or 6teen, resulting in only 22 episodes being shown stateside before it left American airwaves for good. However, it did find some more success on ABC3 in Australia, and has nonetheless, managed to build up a solid fan following despite never achieving the popularity or success of its sister shows.

Stōked / int_1df7bbc0 | comment |
Actually Not a Vampire: A Zig-Zagging Trope with a band of three VIP Eastern European guys in the episode "Grommy the Vampire Slayer". The plot of the episode revolves around Reef believing that the band are vampires after evidence starting piling up that they are vampires with one example being Broseph acting like a hypnotized minion. However, near the end of the episode they have an explanation for most of the evidence such as their red hypnotic eyes actually being contact lenses and their refusal to enter the Staff Housing due to it being filthy. On the other hand, however, as one commentator on Youtube pointed out, they did not explain how they were able to fly from the beach to the surfboards in the ocean and the episode ends with Emma and Fin wondering if Vlad bit their necks when he hugged them goodbye.

Stōked / int_21847ef5 | comment |
Fin doesn't do it too often, but she's the best burper on the show, and has possibly burped more frequently than anyone else (except for maybe Reef or Broseph) and after passing the "man tests" in season 2's 24th episode, Heartbreak Hotel (and said tests actually start with her chugging soda and belching), she celebrates by cutting loose with a burp powerful enough to blow Reef's and Broseph's hair & lips back, knock Johnny over and shake the room they were in. This is excellent foreshadowing of the plotline that Fin is One of the Boys to such an extent that even the guys find her too much to put up with. Even some of her weaker burps can still blow a person's hair back. Naturally, she's also seen having a Burping Contest with Johnny, Reef, and Lo in the episode "Brofinger".

Traumatic Haircut: Reef gets this twice. In "Who Knows What Evil Lurks In The Heart Of Clam?", Amber Green cuts off a good chunk of Reef's hair, leaving him with a hideous haircut. Reef wears a hat to cover this for the rest of the episode. In the Grand Finale "Grom Fest", Reef loses his hair after crashing into Lo's boat. He ended up sinking to the bottom of the sea with his hair stuck in pieces of wood. Fin comes and saves Reef at the cost of his hair. Later on, he borrows the Kahuna's hair depilatory, actually hair removing cream, and lathers it on his head. This leaves Reef bald for the rest of the episode.

Jerk with a Heart of Gold
Stōked / int_4781adbb | comment |
Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Bummer, after he thanks Johnny for yelling at a couple with a pair of bratty kids. It's implied that everyone working at the resort who acts like a jerk pretty much does so only because their jobs are so stressful. This was confirmed in "Endless Bummer", when Bummer is seen to be so stressed out from the rigors of his job that he breaks down crying, leading to the groms helping him deal with his stress. After the resultant We Want Our Jerk Back! storyline, Bummer returns to his normal strict self, though he gets another heart of gold moment when he sincerely thanks the groms for helping him get over his stress. Averted, however, with Kelly. At the start of the series it was implied that she was only a jerk because she was mad at Lo for being so spoiled and bratty, but as things panned out later on she proved to be pretty much a Jerkass, with only a single moment of caring about Emma's well-being in "Penthouse Of Horror" implying otherwise.

Gasshole | |
Stōked / int_7d36715f | comment |
Gasshole: Broseph, Reef and Fin are all belch variants. Broseph, though, he doesn't burp as frequently as Reef or Fin, he can match Fin in power or at least come close. For example: in the final episode, he was in no condition to surf because of his upset stomach, but ends up winning the men's tournament anyway when said upset stomach causes him to burp powerfully enough to propel him backwards into a 1080, beating Reef's score of 9.5 with a perfect 10. Reef is another contender for most frequent burper on the show, although unlike Fin or Broseph he's not winning any contests. Ripper is the only Gasshole on the show known for farting rather than burping, hence the Meaningful Nickname.

Beat Them at Their Own Game: In "Heartbreak Hotel," when the guys allow Fin to join them on their guys-only weekend, they quickly find that she is One of the Boys to such an extent that even they find her too much to put up with. Wild Teen Party
Stōked / int_8af45dbd | comment |
Wild Teen Party: The party that Lo threw that ultimately forced her to work at her family's surf resort for the summer (even forcing her to live at the staff house) was described as "an End-of-the-School-Year party gone wrong." Some of the stuff that happened: The more-than-100 teenaged-guests ended up trashing basically the entire hotel and its ground (including Lo's family's penthouse at the hotel), disturbing pretty much everyone who happened to be staying at the hotel at the time. Basically the entire hotel staff (including the entire housekeeping staff and the new members of the incoming summer staff) were forced to clean up the aftermath of Lo's party over the first two episodes. Broseph drove Lo's car into the hotel's main pool. After running out of firewood for this big bonfire that was on the beach, the people at the party ended up using the hotel's deck chairs in lieu of actual firewood. It attracted the attention of at least one newspaper and one TV-news crew. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police were called in at one point, presumably to try and break up the party.

Ultimate Job Security: Played straight or averted on a case-by-case basis. Reef and Fin both skipped work in "Fast Time When The Rip Tide's High" with no repercussions despite guests complaining about their absences. In the same episode, Broseph steals an irreplaceable vintage board from a popular exhibit at the hotel, and breaks it while Lo left ignored her tables in the hotel restaurant, leaving the guests complaining about the terrible service, again with no repercussions. In contrast, Bummer threatened Emma with termination unless she removed a turtle that was laying eggs from the beach, and did fire her when she brought the turtle into the hotel, but changed his mind after seeing guests cooing over the baby turtles.

Recycled Premise | |
Stōked / int_a6fa41b | comment |
Recycled Premise: StÅked is essentially what 6teen would be like if it took place at a beachfront hotel instead of a shopping mall, with the six main characters (and many other characters) being more or less exaggerated versions of the main six (and other characters) on 6teen—Johnny (who's more or less the same was Wyatt) and Emma (who's basically just like Jen if she was more laid-back) are two of the exceptions. But even then, it's still a pretty good show. Reef's an exaggerated version of Jonesy Garcia, Broseph's an exaggerated version of Jude Lizowski, Fin's an exaggerated version of Nikki Wong, and Lo's an exaggerated version of Caitlin Cooke. And there's many example—there are actually pages on the StÅked Wiki that list similarities between StÅked to 6teen (and even the Total Drama-franchise).

Artistic License - Meteorology: In the episode "Clinging In The Rain," a massive storm hits the beach and floods Surfer's Paradise about twenty feet up. For something like that to happen, it would take at least a Category 3 hurricane to produce this kind of storm surge—and the Pacific Northwest only sees Category 1 hurricanes once per century. Also, it would be nearly impossible for a Category 3 hurricane (under current climactic conditions) to maintain its strength that far up the Pacific coast of North America.
