Premiering on April 6, 2003 on TV Tokyo, Nyo! acts as a Continuity Reboot for the franchise. While there are still some familiar elements, the show is more aimed at children as opposed to the franchise's usual otaku demographic with no references to the franchise's roots whatsoever. Elements from the previous series, Panyo Panyo, were also used in order to expand the backstories of Dejiko, Gema, and Puchiko.Dejiko is still the princess of Planet Di Gi Charat who is heading for Earth with her friends Puchiko and Gema, however, she is specifically going to learn how to train to be a better princess. She ends up crash-landing on the planet, and now stranded takes refuge with the Omocha brothers in their toy store, while Puchiko goes to live with a married couple who run a bakery. While it may be a different series, Dejiko still gets into her usual antics; getting into conflict with her rival Rabi~en~Rose, evading the schemes of the Black Gema Gema Gang, and doing her best to become famous.Nyo! followed a two shorts format with each one being roughly around 11 minutes, and the show would ultimately have 104 episodes in total making it the longest Di Gi Charat anime by a wide margin.Nyo! was one of Bandai Entertainment's former licenses and the show received a dub by Ocean Media's non-union studio, Blue Water Studios, however said dub would be Cut Short note as the North American anime industry had fallen on hard times due to the 2008 economic recession with only 72 of the 104 episodes dubbed.

Mythology Gag | |
Di Gi Charat Nyo! / int_26ac510e | comment |
Mythology Gag: One of the first things Rabi~en~Rose does after meeting, and being annoyed by, Dejiko is kicking her away into a car. Luckily for Dejiko, rather than falling into a river and nearly getting eaten by a giant koi she instead bounces off the car and lands on John and Paul. Takeshi and Yoshimi, the characters from the original series that John and Paul are based on, did perform music in the third episode of the Natsuyasumi Special, however they weren’t very good. When in Akihabara specifically, all the people look like fingers. This is how every background character was drawn in the original series. Ky is stated to drink from a mug that has "Mama" written on it. In the Christmas Special that took place within the same continuity as the original series, Ky was said to be like the mother of the Black Gema Gema Gang, with Rik and Coo being the father and brother respectively. Episode 58 features several similar beats to Episode 8 from the original series. It deals with Puchiko being upset that she can not use the laser eye. She goes to train, and the area she goes to looks exactly like the one from the original, where someone passing by offers to help her, Abarenbou rather than Murataku. In the end, Puchiko actually manages to fire off a laser eye beam, unfortunately, she is unable to replicate it afterward.

Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: In the original series, Minigawa had a crush on Rabi~en~Rose that was very unrequited. Here, Rabi~en~Rose is actually the one who has a crush on Kiyoshi, and it's implied he returns those feelings. Dejiko and Gema live with Kiyoshi and Yasushi, and thus interact regularly with them. In the original series, Minagawa and Kimura only ever really interacted with Rabi~en~Rose and Puchiko respectively. John and Paul are shown to be good friends with Yasushi, whereas the characters that the three were based on really had no connection in the original series.

Demoted to Extra: Gamers, and the rest of Akihabara for that matter, has nowhere near the prominence it did in the original series with it being the focus of only a handful of episodes. Rinna and Meek have a much smaller role in this series compared to Panyo Panyo, with both making rather sporadic appearances. They do however become much more prominent when Dejiko begins going to princess school.

We Want Our Jerk Back!: Episode 28 has the Omocha siblings and Gema get Dejiko to stop using her eye beams. Unfortunately, this causes her to begin acting strange because of the excess energy that needs to be removed. After having to deal with the very dangerous disposal, the trio decides that they would rather just deal with the eye beams. Episode 64 has Dejiko get hit by a magical arrow that turns her kinder. Usada, Piyoko, and Puchiko decide to team up to return Dejiko back to her old self, with the former two wanting to do it simply because they can't stand Dejiko being the center of attention with the latter knowing that this isn't the actual Dejiko.

Shout-Out | |
Di Gi Charat Nyo! / int_c75df49a | comment |
Shout-Out: The series contains several references to The Beatles: John and Paul are musicians, whose names are inspired by The Beatles' John Lennon and Paul McCartney, respectively. Their English voice actors also try to give them voices that sound similar to the two Beatles as well. Episode 43 features the duo recreating the Abbey Road Crossing, including Paul not wearing shoes. Episode 51 is called "The Magically Mystical Tour", a play on the Beatles album Magical Mystery Tour. The title card even matches the album cover somewhat with Dejiko, Rabi~en~Rose, John, and Paul taking the place of the four Beatles. At one point, John and Paul wear the outfits their respective musicians wore on the cover for Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Episode 68 has Dejiko and Puchiko bring in two strangers who look like George Harrison and Ringo Starr. At the end of the episode, they along with John and Paul recreate the album cover of With the Beatles.

Expy: Several characters from the original series were repurposed, while still filling a similar role. Minagawa became Kiyoshi and roughly stayed the same, being a young boy who goes to the same school as Rabi~en~Rose. Kimura became a toy designer named Yasushi, and also the older brother of Kiyoshi. He still retains his obsession with Puchiko however. Takeshi and Yoshimi became a pair of musicians named John and Paul. While still portrayed as fanboys, they are not exclusively Dejiko fanboys and instead gush over most things cute.

Eventually she manages to attract a crowd, only for them to decry everything for sale as worthless junk. Finally a spaceman comes and buys the whole lot.
