Set during the Buccaneer age, The High Seas is set in an Alternate History, where there exists a massive portal just off the tip of Cuba leading into a Pocket Dimension called the High Seas. While European settlers quickly began to colonize this series of islands, archipelagos and landmasses, these efforts were halted for 35 years when the portal closed unexpectedly. Trapped inside with no contact to the outside world, five factions were formed, which came to be known as the Five Pirate Clans: the Fordshires, the Tywyll Company, the Sea Spiders, the Morgans, and the Black Bones. Of these, the last two are the most chaotic and hostile to their neighbors.Advertisement:propertag.cmd.push(function() { proper_display('tvtropes_mobile_ad_1'); })While the portal opened again 15 years ago, the pirate clans are now too powerful and influential to be completely removed from the West Indies. Instead, the European powers play a delicate game with the more reasonable clans while trying to protect their colonies and their trading prospects. However, this is exacerbated by the existence of sea monsters that inhabit the High Seas.Born into this world are two adopted brothers, Isaac and Boris Adamson, living on a small island owned by the Fordshires until the day their farm is attacked, resulting in their entire family being slaughtered before their eyes, and Boris being dragged off, pressed into service for a band of English privateers. Isaac leaves the island, swearing revenge on the men responsible so he can rescue his brother. Boris, thinking Isaac is dead too, swears his own revenge- he will pretend to do his captors' bidding until the day he's strong enough to kill the Captain with his bare hands.Advertisement:propertag.cmd.push(function() { proper_display('tvtropes_mobile_ad_2'); })The story is currently updating every Wednesday and can be found in its entirety here.

P.O.V. Sequel: The last few moments of Episode One are retold in Episode Two from Boris' perspective. Most importantly, while Isaac can't stand to describe the sight of his family being killed, Boris describes everything in vivid, gory detail.
