A Singer Namedrop is when an artist or a band interweaves their name into the lyrics of one of their songs. Dropping one's name is a way to make listeners remember who sang the song. This can take a form of either simply saying the name (regardless of context), indicating that the song is about him or her, or introducing him or herself, usually in the hook. Singer namedrops are a common element of rap songs, with some rappers using their name as a way of saying "I'm goin' in!" With some rappers, like 2 Chainz, their name is practically a catchphrase. Compare Creator Cameo and Title Drop. Virtually always present in a Boastful Rap. Sometimes evokes Third-Person Person. |

On The Simpsons when Bart joins a Boy Band named Party Posse, their first song goes: "And now, because the children are our future, here are the children of Springfield Elementary with a song they call 'The Children Are Our Future'". It's this trope in spirit, as it's sung by children, references children in the title, and has little lyrical content besides "children" and "future". |

If you are Set It Off, you may do this more than once and in more than 1 way on original tracks and covers. In the song Duality of the album of the same name is the most subtle way of using this trope. In the track Hypnotized off of their album Upside Down, verse 2 has a line referencing the lead singer of the band, Cody Carson. |

Montgomery Gentry did this twice: Eddie Montgomery sings "A few close friends, Charlie, Troy, and me" in "All Night Long", a duet with Charlie Daniels, and in "My Town", he sings "Maybe later on, me and ol' T-Roy will show you 'round our town". "Troy" or "T-Roy" obviously refers to Troy Gentry, the other half of the duo. | |

Big & Rich did this several times on their first two albums: "Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy)" features the line "havin' ourselves a big and rich time." "Filthy Rich" changes from a normal Title Drop to "everybody's trying to get big and rich..." for the final lines. Also notable for containing the line "Me and my friends were talking that, old Freddie, Bill, and Sonny" (Big & Rich wrote the song with Bill McDavid, Freddy Powers, and Sonny Throckmorton). "Rollin' (The Ballad of Big & Rich)" has an interlude by Cowboy Troy that ends by declaring that he's "rolling with the brothers Big & Rich!" Also, this: |
