Everyone knows that vampires and religious artifacts don't get along with each other, particularly crosses. Even though vampire legends exist all around the world (such as the jiang shi from China) with a diversity of weaknesses, this particular association traces all the way back to Eastern European and Slavic superstitions which were influenced by Christianity, and believed crosses could repel evil spirits and The Undead in general. This in turn served as basis for Bram Stoker's Dracula, the work that popularized vampire fiction. Occasionally to subvert expectations, some works features vampires as genuinely (or at least pretend to be) religious in spite of their nature or perhaps even part of The Church. Sometimes, this is hand waved by these vampires not being affected by crosses, holy water and the usual suspects which explains why they can carry out their pious duties. Do note this trope covers both good and evil examples: heroic vampires will have a tendency to be self-loathing monsters which is why they seek religion in search for comfort (though it's not always the case), while evil vampires qualify as the Corrupt Church and Churchgoing Villains. It's also very common in Japanese fiction to combine vampires with crosses and other related imagery as they all seem "gothic". Compare with Ascended Demon, Real Men Love Jesus and Religious Bruiser. Can be considered a type of Oxymoronic Being. |

Discworld: Feet of Clay has a Running Gag about a vampire who complains he's discriminated against by his workplaces where he keeps crumbling to dust. While it culminates with him working in the holy water section of a religious supplies shop, we also learn he's worked as a stake sharpener, a sunglasses tester, stacking garlic in a vegetable market... Carpe Jugulum: The vampire Count Magpyr has managed to rid his clan of their Classical Movie Vampire weaknesses (garlic, holy water, religious symbols...) through constant exposure to them (and being immortal, he's written several authoritative but misleading books about the weaknesses of vampires). This turns against them at the climax where their weaknesses are suddenly restored, and memorizing so many religious symbols (most of which are very simple, along the lines of two lines of different lengths intersecting at right angles) means they can see them everywhere. |

Vampire Academy: Eastern Orthodoxy plays a huge part of the lore as the dominant religion of the Moroi race. The titular academy is named after a Russian vampire saint implied to be Vladimir the Great, the one responsible for making Russia Christian. While it's said that several of the students are genuine believers, the main character in particular considers herself agnostic. The movie adaptation also depicts an Greek Orthodox vampire priest◊! On the other hand, the evil undead Strigoi unlike the good Moroi are repelled by crosses and can't enter holy ground.

Blade had one obscure villain named Draconis, an vampire priest/assassin who overcame the typical weaknesses like sunlight, holy water and the crucifix through a combination of limited exposure to them, feeding on his fellow vampires and unshakable faith. He was specifically chosen by the vampires because of his piety when he was discovered as an choir boy and is referred to as an "holy vampire", who is established as an Hero Killer by completely trouncing Blade in their first encounter.

Vampyr: While crosses are established to harm/paralyze vampires in this setting, a handful of individuals do qualify for this trope. Father Sean Hampton is turned into a Skal vampire, but somehow remains the same Good Shepherd he was as a human, providing protection to both humans and vampires in his district. However, he becomes a bit mad since he now eats human flesh, though he makes a point about only eating dead from those long dead. Jonathan can choose to leave him alone, which will result in him becoming a monster and allowing the vampires to devour the humans in his district... Or under the right circumstances, complete his transformation into a proper vampire, where he will remain good as he only feasts on rats and his district will remain stable and healthy. William Marshal was an ancient vampire and a very pious knight. When interacting with him, he says God was his maker and he owns his immortality to Archangel Michael and, more tellingly, he wears a crucifix around his neck. |

Vampire: The Masquerade: Even though vampires are repelled by the power of True Faith, there was nothing preventing Kindred from using it even if it was vanishingly rare: Saulot was considered the Cainite most faithful to God and during the Dark Ages, he created the Road of Heaven (Via Caeli) to teach vampires to suppress the Beast through religious devotion. On the more cynical end, the Lasombra were heavily involved in the Catholic Church, using it to their advantage in their various schemes. The most triumphantly evil example of this trope would be Archbishop Moçada, who saw his Embrace as a gift from God and became an vicious Lasombra. Ferox the Gargoylenote (In this setting, gargoyles are a mutated vampire variant created as a Servant Race by the Tremere.) is a Christian convert from the latter days of Ancient Rome, who turned to religion when faced by the casual Transhuman Treachery of his vampire masters. Thanks to Sanity Slippage from becoming a vampire, he believes himself a Fallen Angel tasked with destroying impure vampires and leading the penitent to salvation, but he also possesses the rare and potent True Faith merit. A very strange example comes from the Giovanni, a vampire clan that embraces only within the family and is largely defined by incest, greed, necromancy and a grand plan to kill everything and enslave the ghosts. Members of the family are still expected to be nominally Catholic, with atheism grounds for excommunication, even if it merely amounts to paying outward tribute to the trappings of the faith. |

Thirst is about what would happen if a Catholic priest became vampire. The main protagonist Sang-hyun gets turned after being injected with a infected blood transfusion and though he clings to his humanity through his faith and upbringing, his newfound condition puts it to the test until he suffers a Crisis of Faith, drives his flock away because he doesn't want to be subject of worship and ultimately commits Suicide by Sunlight alongside his progeny, the woman he loved who became into a monster after he turned her.

Zig-Zagged in The Elder Scrolls: Vampires tend to worship the Daedra, who are regarded as "evil" by society but defy common morality. They own their existence to Molag Bal, the Daedric Prince of Corruption and Domination who is objectively evil and is revered by certain factions like the Volkihar Clan. Some vampires reject Bal entirely and worship other Daedra like Clavicus Vile or Azura, the latter being considered one of the "good" Daedra specially by the Dunmer. On one hand, it doesn't seem to have any Aedric-worshiping vampires, since the Aedra are the primary religion in Tamriel and there is evidence to suggest they shun their followers if they are turned. On the other hand, there is nothing preventing a vampire player character from praying at an Aedric altar.

Legacy of Kain: Janos Audron and his fellow ancient vampires worshiped a deity known as the Elder God, whom they regard as benevolent and exalted his purifying doctrine of birth, life and death through his Wheel of Fate. Cruelly subverted when the Elder God is revealed to be the Big Bad and that he despises his followers due to their undead and sterile nature disrupting the balance of life. Though to be fair, it wasn't fault of the ancients themselves but their arch-enemies the Hylden, who cast a curse on their entire race that made the Elder God turned his back on them.

The Blood Angels in Warhammer 40,000 are a Space Marine chapter that closely resemble vampires, with their rituals involving blood, sleeping in coffins, being eternally youthful and being cursed with the Red Thirst. And yet, like all Loyalist Chapters, they are fiercely faithful to the Emperor. In addition, their Primarch Sanguinius was the closest thing to a literal angel they had and is somewhat a Jesus figure himself, and he is deeply honored by both his children and the Imperium at large.

True Blood: Vampires are not affected by crosses or holy symbols as this was a myth spread by them to mislead humans, with many of vampires such as Don Santiago disguising themselves as priests and clerics to feast on unsuspecting victims. With that said there are some examples: Violet Mazurski self-identifies as a Catholic due to her Polish upbringing, though she makes a point about her beliefs differing from modern Catholicism which she describes as "bullshit" since she was turned during the Middle Ages. The Sanguinista movement is an Religion of Evil example. They are fundamentalists that follow an literal interpretation of the Vampire Bible that states God was a vampire, created Lilith as his prophetess and that humans should be subjugated by them. Downplayed with Godric, who isn't necessarily religious himself, but does believe that Jesus Was Way Cool, telling Steve Newlin that he is older than the Messiah and wishes he had met him, but missed it. |

Played with in Hellsing: While blessed artifacts do definitely harm vampires, Alucard and Seras Victoria belong to an Protestant organization that hunts other vampires. Their relationship with God is muddy: it's established that Alucard was a Christian as Vlad the Impaler, but turned his back on God after becoming a vampire and is loyal only to Integra Hellsing, it's ambiguous in the manga/OVA whether or not Seras is genuinely a believer, though the GONZO anime definitely shows her making an Anglican prayer.
