Fuuto P.I. (Manga) / int_108c268e | comment |
Hotter and Sexier: W was aimed at young kids and teenagers at most, so it was mostly tame, but Fuuto PI's first arc alone contains straight-up nudity. The anime tones it down, though Tokime still keeps her design, which is shown off in episode 1. Tokime suffers from Clothing Damage in episode 5, despite it not happening in the manga.

Darker and Edgier | |
Fuuto P.I. (Manga) / int_14beeefd | comment |
Darker and Edgier: Zigzagged. While the manga retains a lot of humor from its predecessor, the trailer for the anime shows a lot of mutilated bodies and murders within gory detail, unsurprising for a Seinen manga and surprising for those who watched the series thinking it's still the same kids' show. Almost all the Dopants are villains unlike the series, and Chapter 116 ends with Ryu lying down on the ground after being pierced by a sword.note It would be more harrowing if it weren't for the fact that Ryu does appear in crossover stories that canonically happens after his daughter with Akiko, Haruna Terui, is born and it hasn't happened yet in the manga. Then again considering all the punishment Ryu has gone through during the original series, surviving a stab wound would not be out of the question, and the following chapter reveals he did survive.

Adaptation Expansion | |
Fuuto P.I. (Manga) / int_23473ae7 | comment |
Adaptation Expansion: The first episode of the anime also adapts the first episode of Double's Begins Night segment, as an extended introduction for new viewers. The third episode of the anime expands the vehicle chase in the other Futo to include the Luna Trigger form shooting down suspended I-beams to slow down the Road Dopant. In The Teaser opening of episode 5 when the anime finally debuts Ryu Terui's physical appearance, he is shown arresting some of The Remnant of EXE, the Memory dealer gang from the last episode of Kamen Rider W. Beyond the reach of the anime, the manga gives numerous forms and finishers that were never shown in the original TV series, such as the arm bow using Fang Trigger and Maximum Drives activated via Philip's memories rather than Shotaro's.

Adaptation Deviation: In episode 5, instead of being attacked in her underwear, Monako was wearing her Meg costume. Also Tokime's Iconic Outfit babydoll was ripped as she was on her way to the dressing room to help Monako. Because of the change, in episode 6, after defeating the Meganeura Dopant it is Tokime who is covering herself in a towel instead of Monako. Kamen Rider Accel's motorcycle form receives a small change. In the original series, he'd transform into it by holding up his Driver, the Memory facing away from him. Here, he flips it around so the Memory is facing towards him.

Adapted Out: The Caracal Dopant arc was skipped over in the anime, likely due to having no connection to the overarching arc regarding STREET and the fact that it is more of a Breather Episode for the manga to give Tokime some character development away from incidents involving them. The Puzzle Dopant arc was skipped in the anime which introduced the cards that allow non-STREET members access to Shadow Fuuto.

Actor Allusion: Terui's anime debut has him beating up a member of EXE who resembles Leo. Leo's actor, Shouhei Nanba, appeared as one of the members back in W proper. In episode 7 Bandou says that Gaia Memory users tend to attract each other, in a bit of a nod to Daisuke Ono's role as Jotaro in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, where it is indeed the case for Stand users. In episode 10's Imagine Spot, Bandou imagines his fellow STREET members as band members. Scream, well, screams "Love!" at the audience, in a nod to Miku It's other notable Kamen Rider role as Lovekov.

Fuuto P.I. (Manga) / int_4389e368 | comment |
Actionized Sequel: The manga still has plenty of action scenes, but they're spaced out a bit more than in Double. The duo's first transformation isn't until the end of chapter 5 (the end of episode 2 in the anime), at first at least. As the story progresses and the villains get tougher, the amount and scale of the action scenes also increase.

Five-Man Band: The Hero/The Heart: Shotaro, as the main viewpoint character and moral center of the team. The Lancer/The Smart Guy: Philip, who is the other lead and therefore Shotaro's partner, as well as the brains due to his book smarts and Gaia Library access. The Big Guy: Ryu, whose primary role in the manga and anime is serving as added muscle as well as the Friend on the Force. The Heart: Akiko, who alternatively serves as the source of levity and the other moral center of the team. Sixth Ranger: Tokime, who joins the already established team and serves as the source of the manga and anime's driving questions.

Continuity Nod | |
Fuuto P.I. (Manga) / int_9dab0a6e | comment |
Continuity Nod: Not only is Akiko's marriage brought up, but Jin-san's sidekick Makura sports the close-shorn hairdo he was seen with during Movie Taisen Core. Akira from the last episode of the original series appears in episode 2, now a bit older to indicate a Time Skip that presumably covers any other crossovers and other movies. The "Healing Princess NEO" segments at the end of episodes 5 and 6 bring to mind Wakana's radio show of the same name, with the implication that Tokime rebooted them. Tokime brings up CycloneAccel in the segment at the end of episode 6, bringing to mind how Shroud had planned for Philip and Ryu to be the partners using the W Driver. When Shotaro and Philip are stranded at the Kogamino mansion in episode 7, they're handed blue and yellow masks that not only resemble LunaTrigger, but also hearken back to their "Kamen Singer" act back in the Liar Dopant arc of the original series. In at least the manga version, the two even reminisce about that case. Later in the same arc, in episode 8 of the anime, Philip dresses up as Kanna in order to lure out the user of the Alcohol Memory, not unlike what he did in the aforementioned Liar Dopant arc where he dressed up as Wakana. When Tokime returns to the Other Fuuto early in the Reactor Dopant arc (episode 10 in the anime), she spots the Beast, Sweets, and Triceratops Dopants. Philip realizes Nikaido is a Dopant who can generate high amounts of energy like Jun Kazu/Utopia Dopant, and brings out the W Prism Extreme Finishing Move to deal with him. The "Hardboiled Delusion Diary" at the end of Episode 12 imagines Tokime, Philip and Ryu as the Three Unifiers of Japan (Tokugawa Ieyasu, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and Oda Nobunaga respectively) in a nod to Akiko and Ryu's cameo in Movie War Sengoku, as well as Nobunaga's appearance in Movie War Core, which featured W.
