Errorverse: Tropes D-I (Roleplay) / int_14beeefd | comment |
Darker and Edgier: The Sonic Forces remake in the Errorverse pushes this forward where the original game failed, demonstrating much darker themes such as the implied torture and the doubts war can bring to even a leader. The Lost Games Season 5 can be this, as the stakes not only got higher, but Neo and BetaBrian are up to face their biggest enemies yet. The second half of the New Era Saga is this, straying away from its action comedy themes and taking a more dark and serious turn that would affect the lives of Brian NE and his friends forever.

Gratuitous Spanish: AD!Luis definitely knows his Spanish, which he demonstrates when keeping Yishu in check. This, of course, catches both AD!Finn and Yishu off-guard. Justified in that he learned a little bit from Milla, as well as a full-blown lesson from Puss in Boots and Kitty Softpaws thanks to dimension-hopping.

Errorverse: Tropes D-I (Roleplay) / int_1d91d828 | comment |
Deadly Game: During The Lost Games Season 5’s second half, Neo and BetaBrian are sicced into “The Showgrounds”, where the strongest people are captured and put into a deadly battle. Nerila, Tarilvax, Christina, and virtual counterparts of Enzo, Reemah and Xi are also forced into it too. It especially doesn’t help that it was mentioned to have gone on for months, apparently. It’s thanks to BetaBrian’s plan that all of them (except for him) are able to outwit The Host and make their escape.

Ironic Hell: While Hell in the Errorverse isn’t depicted as dark as in biblical depictions (see A Hell of a Time in the "H" folder), it doesn’t mean monsters are not punished justly for their crimes, in ways akin to the misdeeds they caused. Not even being a demon saves them from pain. Heljin is tormented the exact same way he inflicted that torture onto innocents. Due to treating people like jokes, the evil Doug Bowser (who would be reincarnated into Flowey Doug later) becomes the court jester of Hell. Subverted for TN!Benjamin who, while having his misdeeds listed off, is let off due to his mental state not being the best for any kind of punishment.

I Just Want to Have Friends
Errorverse: Tropes D-I (Roleplay) / int_26764512 | comment |
I Just Want to Have Friends: The overall story arc for Joilean_Clone, considering Error_Code was her only true companion for a while and she didn’t know anyone else to turn to if she needed it. She vents this to both Error himself and to Neo and Joilean, though couldn’t immediately bond with them due to the risk of Entity aiming to get her killed. However, she does get friends over time; Neo_Clone, later named Necalli, accompanies her while she sticks behind on Error’s order, and the two are eventually adopted by Joilean into her family. Caffrin had a lack of friends prior to meeting Xenophanes due to her unusual abilities, so getting to befriend Evo, Nitro and Rosie helped her a lot once she awoke from stasis.

Errorverse: Tropes D-I (Roleplay) / int_28a5213a | comment |
For SoniKiller, his ego, Pride, arrogance, immorality and Hair-Trigger Temper are all this. To this day, it’s obvious to everyone what SoniKiller actually is… except himself. This was ultimately fixed, however, after MC claimed ownership of the character, which prompts to make SoniKiller pose as much of a threat as he did during the 2020/21 era of Sonic.EXE.

Hidden Depths | |
Errorverse: Tropes D-I (Roleplay) / int_2dc0d2bf | comment |
Hidden Depths: Error_Code, despite the mission he went to do in another Calteron in The Lost Games Season 5, comes to genuinely care for the clone of Joilean he met in that abandoned copy of Neo’s game, genuinely not wanting her hurt by Entity or worse. These hidden depths of his personality give him the boost needed to make things right, helping Neo’s companions escape and rendering himself Ret-Gone to spare Neo from his trauma. Lucia, while being a genuine sweetheart and fluff extraordinaire, is also a master in coding, which allows her to spread her horizons accordingly to either pirated copies of games (solely used for testing new code) or brand-new content, such as the pinball machines she helped install into the OMEGA Universe’s arcade. IRL Lean showed this in Corruption of Perfection, demonstrating that he understood how it felt to be in MCGamer’s shoes, especially with the real-life pressures of a content creator. It’s this that allows him to free MCGamer from his perfection-induced madness, though is quick to deny it afterwards, so as to detain his “cold kid” attitude.

Even Evil Has Standards
Errorverse: Tropes D-I (Roleplay) / int_319e4a2f | comment |
Even Evil Has Standards: While Xenophanes had the God complex for a time, even he knew when enough was enough, and demonstrated that he was not happy with IRL Luis/Yishu shunning his friends just for his project. While not exactly evil, Metus shows disgust at the idea of a mortal dying very early on in life, be it from a life-threatening illness or a fatal accident. It goes to show that he prefers people to have lived their lives before he takes their souls for delivery to the afterlife. Following from the last point for the previous trope, even Lord X and Fatal Error, being notorious villains, ally with the heroes to stop Puhoi in his tracks, if not only because the destruction of the Errorverse would tear any progress they had away from them for good. Prior to madness and slowly in Whom Vowed to Destroy, Audrey/Puhoi was against Kyuzi's ideals in rebuilding their home. During his time with a resistance, he was captured by the Cult of Toxicity and subjected to torture to get information out of Audrey, but failed due to Audrey's refusal to cooperate, which led to him becoming Puhoi in hopes of brainwashing him. However, he still had free will and was rescued. In Project: MCGAMEJOLTER.bin’s Epilogue and Whom Vowed to Destroy, he refuses to cooperate with Torment and sees him as sick and narcissistic, slowly refusing to kill Omegaverse Brian and screw his life over and just wanting to steal some of that Calteron's Code, acknowledging that Omegaverse Brian had nothing to do with him.

While stranded alone, SD (Space Disaster)!Enzo gladly adopts SD!April as his little sister. Etricia doesn’t hesitate to adopt Clide into her family after learning about his abusive home life. Keyan and Crosby are taken under the wing of Felicity’s family after first meeting them. Soft Benjamin becomes this after being adopted by the Mikus, giving him a genuinely safe home and a family who really do support his actions, in great contrast to the Fairests. Karilvatch and Lucia both gladly serve as second parents to the Smol siblings during the location swap in Final Confliction. AT!Luis_PL is gladly adopted as a son to Alone Together!Nitro and his version of Nova as a result of their undying dedication to protecting him from the scientists that performed sickening experiments on him, said scientists being arrested due to their actions being seen as child abuse to the police, not to mention the angry protestors seeing it that way too. Reak and Teak both get adopted into Nitro’s family by the conclusion of the Darkest Measures stories. In Forming New Family, Nulla and Olive both adopt Raian as their new son.

Speaking of Area 51, its boss/the Ink Demon expresses all other worlds to be inferior to Earth, believing only nature’s animals and humanity should exist in the world. Eviler than Thou
Errorverse: Tropes D-I (Roleplay) / int_5963b221 | comment |
Eviler than Thou: Puhoi fancies himself this way to Respiro and demonstrates this brutally, possessing a total of four individuals (Lost Hero!Benjamin, Mulan, a clone of Spongebob and an alternate Brian) in contrast to the three Respiro possessed (Aladdin, Woody and his version of Sonic). It really doesn’t help that Puhoi even captured and used Respiro AND Rovina to further his plans, and had almost wiped out the ENTIRE Errorverse in his madness. While not causing direct harm in the Errorverse, Torment's proven to be this for one reason; being the only demonic monster amongst the Errorverse who enjoys what Puhoi does, in comparison to the other Errorverse villains, who are against Puhoi's twisted goals. This is because of his name alone; he enjoys and feeds on the suffering that happens in the multiverse, and went insane and angered when Yishu locked him out of the realm where the failed timelines were at, keeping him from feeding on the negative emotions streaming. He eventually makes a deal with Puhoi after his defeat by Spongebob in The Spongebob.EXE Saga, promising to help aid Puhoi in his conquest, but for one request; to hurt anyone he comes across, but not physically, only for Puhoi to realise soon in his story arc that he just signed his freedom to that freakshow.

Driven to Suicide: This happened to Error/Brian during Lost Origins, after finding out the devil that gave him his abilities was using him, taking his life so he could be sent to hell and get turned into a demon, thus beginning his plan to eradicate Neo and his people and replace them all with his old friends and citizens. River was close to doing this following the death of his mother, under the belief that his presence only brings death to those close to him, but was thankfully stopped by Keyan and Jadie, who both gave him a reason to keep living. TN!Benjamin also undergoes this, having become a Death Seeker through near-endless isolation in a cell, and by the time he breaks back out again, the army was already slaughtered, meaning TN had nothing to stop him from ending his life. Go Mad from the Revelation
Errorverse: Tropes D-I (Roleplay) / int_89b8822f | comment |
Go Mad from the Revelation: Calteron Brian is close to crossing this after the reality of the existence of him and his friends is exposed, but he thankfully calms down from it and doesn’t do anything nasty out of it like Monika once did, despite the painful temptations. Nitro’s case is downplayed, but he DOES express disgust by the fact that people seem to think his and everyone else’s lives are just a sick game, directly calling out the player/viewer while venting this to Lilac in SegaSonic.GENESIS. Natsuki does catch onto the reality of her old home following Doki Doki Takeover!, though her case is downplayed, since she doesn’t take horrifying measures like Monika once did. However, she does undergo Existential Horror thanks to it, trying to process the revelation and feeling pretty badly shook up as a result, even as the other girls help talk her out of it. Colin also underwent Existential Horror once he discovered the reality of things, though never wanted to talk to AE!Lean about it due to the risk of him losing it as well. Fortunately, he never did, having picked up on these worries and reassuring him that nobody would tamper with their life. SoniKiller attempts this on Christina during The Lost Games’ fourth and penultimate season before trying to kill her with an Oblivion Crystal, but this ultimately fails. Not only does she take it calmly, but the Oblivion Crystal outright doesn’t work on friends or companions, even temporary ones. Neo doesn’t go mad from the reveal that he was designed as a replacement for BetaBrian/Error_Code, but still feels worried about it. Some comfort from Joilean helps him get over it, though, and his later newfound admin abilities are only used to benefit those around him. However, he got it worse when he discovered that The Host was the original Neo_1930, and almost fell into Existential Horror about it if not for BetaBrian calming him down and getting him back home safely. IRL Luis/Yishu ends up facing worse when he finds out that the Errorverse is sentient, despite IRL Finn’s repeated attempts to hide it. This is what eventually causes his betrayal during Executable Revamp.

Greater-Scope Villain: SoniKiller to the entire Errorverse, due to being the instigator and kickstarter of practically every major event and being a genuinely threatening Complete Monster. He does suffer from Villain Decay, however, due to being subjected to a Humiliation Conga that rendered him mostly forgotten by many. He does, however, somehow reprise his role in the Omegaverse, as teased in "Sonic_TonkuCollection.EXE", a reimagining of the original Sonic.EXE, Sally.EXE and Mighty.EXE. Concerning Trihex’s torture on others, it’s shown that he never did it willingly, but rather a selfish devil controlled his body and forced him to do it in his own name. Fortunately, nobody is fooled once the truth comes out, and Trihex is Easily Forgiven once reincarnated in NE6.EXE. Torment is revealed to be this, feeding on Kyuzi’s anger in the beginning and being the one to forcefully drive Puhoi to kill. Kyuzi himself was the one who turned Audrey into Puhoi, something he was never able to truly let go of.

Foreshadowing: During the finale of The Final Showdown, Amy mentions that the mental scars SoniKiller had left on Nitro would inevitably cause him to become depressed. A few stories later, Nitro is indeed revealed to be diagnosed with long-term depression, which had a bad impact on his mental health. In NAMELESS_EVIL_666.EXE, Brian suffered from an illness as a result of injuries from the beasts he fought. Even by Project: MCGAMEJOLTER, he still doesn’t recover from it, and it’s what leads to his death after Puhoi’s defeat. During Project: MCGAMEJOLTER, Puhoi once stated that if Brian ever got ahold of the curse and not him, LH!Benjamin and the others would have faced a "threat worse than [himself].". They never believed him, only being revealed to be correct in Worlds Clash, where Brian/Kyuzi gains the curse against his will and becomes a complete monster that would serve as Omegaverse SoniKiller's second in command. There are MULTIPLE hints early on as to the Area 51 boss not being human: for one, he wants to hunt down Bendy and even went out of his way to frame him for murder, which the Little Devil Darlin’ denies any involvement in, despite his upset at being cheated on. He's WAY too serious and strict and his personality is just outright odd, as if he was trying WAY too hard to be a human, for not once has he blinked. Finally, notice how his staff are perfectly okay with touching the toon-killing dip? They seem to be unharmed when making contact with it, yet the boss seems to try to AVOID touching it. This is finally made explicit when Bendy tries to kill him with an anvil.

Genocide Backfire: Exaggerated; Brian_Corrupt.bin’s genocide run through one timeline of The Cursed Engine 2 is repeatedly doomed to end in failure, no matter how persistent he got. The five final encounters are very likely, if not certain, to cause a roadblock in this, especially since each are their own Ragtag Bunch of Misfits: The encounter with Benjamin, Grace and Pico; due to AE!Luis having grown close to the formermost, as well as the other two being there for backup, this is likely to be the first major slip-up. The encounter with Chara, who utilises his primary abilities AND those of the lost human souls. The shared encounter against SH!Luis and Sans, who are a bigger step up in difficulty than before. Sans even takes the motive of cheating death after SH!Luis falls, just to curb-stomp Brian_Corrupt into atoms. The encounter with Virus.BIN/Wade, who lasts much longer than Flowey did in UT’s genocide route. The final encounter against Nitro, Amy, Antoine and Bunnie, which is doomed to end in failure for Brian_Corrupt, no matter what tactics he tries.

Fatal Flaw: For SoniKiller, his ego, Pride, arrogance, immorality and Hair-Trigger Temper are all this. To this day, it’s obvious to everyone what SoniKiller actually is… except himself. This was ultimately fixed, however, after MC claimed ownership of the character, which prompts to make SoniKiller pose as much of a threat as he did during the 2020/21 era of Sonic.EXE. The Ink Demon has one of his own; mistaking cardboard cutouts of Bendy for the real deal and smashing them promptly. Keyan and Bendy both use this to their advantage to lure him right into a trap that gets him killed for good. Lord Brevon had made the use of the Toons' Ink of Magic to regenerate any wounds laid on him instantly. Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: While his motives are understandable, as Neo makes clear, the loss of his world and friends was no acceptable excuse for Error_Code to mercilessly ravage his home, especially since it wasn't Neo's fault he was brought to life to begin with. The Armor-Piercing Question Neo delivers may not be enough to destroy his spite, but it resonates in him for his story’s aftermath after his final defeat. IRL Luis, or Yishu, caused his end of trouble not just because he wanted away from Earth, but because he suffered from severe feelings of having his artwork and creations unappreciated by others, breaking him to the point his sadness tore his emotions apart. Following the Decomposite Character change, he no longer remembers this happening. Everyone Has Standards
Errorverse: Tropes D-I (Roleplay) / int_b4a6ae4c | comment |
Everyone Has Standards: Tarilvax/Tarallexer, upon witnessing Error_Code tormenting Nerila and Joilean, angrily calls him out for taking it a step too far, which is seen as Hypocritical Humor on Error’s part. Needless to say, this arrogance becomes Error’s downfall in the end, and it leads to Tarilvax’s redemption. Eggman, in the expanded Twitter Takeover #6, is none too happy about the dumb policies of canon Fazbear Entertainment, admitting that it’s really low, even for his standards. Sark outright disrespects ANYONE who thinks paedophilia in works like Eye of Three is okay, which disgusts him about Jaiz specifically. He is also angered when it’s implied Heljin was doing such things to young girls. Thankfully, this isn’t the case. Amongst the prison failed timelines, there’s always at least one guard who is against the morals of the twisted rules and speaks out against it. This often leads to a presumed execution of the defecting guard(s). One such timeline has all of Heljin’s army become defectors, paving their own path in life without him bossing them around. Daddy Dearest calls out both of the Fairests for their abusive behaviour towards their own son during Christmas Festival, knowing that while he may have been a bit rash around his daughter and Benjamin, he at least doesn’t physically and verbally abuse her. While Tardy may be daft, even he wasn’t okay with the idea of murdering Roze, calling Torol out on thinking that that’s the best solution to the problem. This demonstrates that he CAN be kind and genuinely humane if he really has to be. You know TOO well that Puhoi has crossed the Moral Event Horizon if even Respiro himself disapproves of the former’s acts, especially with using the latter to fuel his power.invoked

This becomes an Expy Coexistence with the two eventually teaming up against Error_Code.666 during the fourth season of The Lost Games and becoming True Companions when they cross paths again in The Cursed Engine. By pure coincidence, Neo and Error_Code can also be considered expies of Hog and Scorched respectively, the former in that he inhabits the new world and has his own adventures, and the latter in that he loathes Neo for it and wants his old world back no matter the cost or tyranny. Richard, in his evil state, is like this towards Sarah/Needlem0use, having gone mad from being murdered and tormenting people through a medium of choice. In contrast to Sarah, however, the murder was intentional, and the later parts of his madness kick off Calteron’s self-awareness. After redemption, he and Sarah even find common ground with each other due to their similar circumstances. Sonic and X, throughout the Extraterrestrial Encounter trilogy, as well as any appearances they have after that, are this to Eddie Brock and Venom, which Evo mentions to both pairs in The Symbiote Apocalypse, where it becomes their own Expy Coexistence. The more evil variant of Doug Bowser, alongside his henchmen (save for Wade and Torol), are this for Flushed Away’s The Toad and his army of hench rats (and henchfrogs). The formermost later becomes this for a mix of Flowey and nkrs200’s take on Microsoft Sam. Speaking of, Torol is this around the Arbiter, being the one to have to put up with Tardy’s antics and initially suffering for it, while Tardy’s this around both Bob from SMG4 and Master Chief from Arby n’ the Chief. The latter even has an alternate counterpart displaying the memories of Chief at one point. Corruptor is one to Serpentine throughout ERROR: The Reveal and Executable Revamp, being just as trigger-happy and persistent as the sly snake and even being the instigator of April’s Dark and Troubled Past. Also, just like Serpentine, he gets blasted out of the Onyx Prism for his troubles, but unlike the crazed warrior, this causes the end of his life for good.

Fluffy Dry Cat: While not cats, Alicia and Finnegan both get this after having baths or playing in water, where they get a bit fluffier after drying off for a short while. Lucia herself is also prone to this.

Errorverse: Tropes D-I (Roleplay) / int_eeb86ce6 | comment |
Good Samaritan: Nitro, in his backstory and even in the major stories, has been known to help sort out many problems, even without his later-gained powers. As examples; Through a connection with Belle (or QT), his babysitter and the mother of the Royal Woods middle school’s Cristina, he was able to help the girl and Lincoln patch things up and become friends again. He commonly contributed to keeping the streets of Royal Woods and Great Lakes City free of garbage left lying around. Neo is also a simple and ordinary hero, not really having any world-threatening monsters to deal with (Error_Code and The Host notwithstanding), just jerks itching to ruin people’s days.

Fan-Created Offspring
Errorverse: Tropes D-I (Roleplay) / int_ef692162 | comment |
Fan-Created Offspring: Revie and Rovie, the two children of Respiro and Rovina that each take after their parents in the Errorverse and Omegaverse. As you can expect, the two aren’t seen around Respiro often for good reason. Crosby happens to be the offspring of Sonic.OMT, though less powerful and considerably much kinder than OMT in all regards. In addition, aside from expanding his jaw to consume meals quickly (which nobody bats an eyelash at in the Area 15 universe), his only real powers are spiritual flight and Mind Rape, the latter of which he only does to anyone trying to lay harm to his adoptive family or friends. As in their AU of origin, the Skychasers (alongside their siblings and Kenta Acorn) are fan-made children of major Sonic characters. Skyler the Hedgehog is the son of his AU’s Sonic and Amy. Taffy and Chip are Tails and Cream’s kids in the AU. Koreth and Beryl are under the care of Knuckles and Shade. And Kenta is the fan-kid of Sally and Khan.

Decomposite Character
Errorverse: Tropes D-I (Roleplay) / int_f0508c08 | comment |
IRL Luis, or Yishu, caused his end of trouble not just because he wanted away from Earth, but because he suffered from severe feelings of having his artwork and creations unappreciated by others, breaking him to the point his sadness tore his emotions apart. Following the Decomposite Character change, he no longer remembers this happening.

The Earth-Prime Theory
Errorverse: Tropes D-I (Roleplay) / int_f5138226 | comment |
The Earth-Prime Theory: Drastically subverted as revealed by the Sonic leading this universe. Discussed by the Master Creator during Worlds Clash concerning the original Errorverse. Apparently, any failed timelines are separated to avoid tampering with the canon events, with the residents of the OMEGA Universe staying put to prevent their “code” from clashing with that of the canon timeline, lest it causes a universal wipeout. Most of this code was indeed fixed up by Pico out-of-universe beforehand to prevent such a thing from occurring, and once the failed timeline cycle came to its conclusion with ERR outwitted, the problem was pretty much non-existent in the end. Shame that the Master Creator had to make such a big deal out of it and fret about such a problem happening again following the Omegaverse’s creation, especially with travel between the base universes and the OMEGA Universe being legally allowed.

Game Within a Game | |
Errorverse: Tropes D-I (Roleplay) / int_f7567671 | comment |
Game Within a Game / Show Within a Show: Well, “game/show within a story”, so to speak, but multiple properties seen in the Errorverse do exist as video games and media in-universe. This does obviously apply to all video game properties that have video games in-universe. Halo, despite not being directly involved in the Errorverse, is indeed a game there, and is quite commonly played by Abodant and Shou. The two even have a dedicated Xbox Halo hot tub in the residence of Frisk, Chara and Asriel. Atari, in honour of their games setting up many properties in the long-run, have several games present in the Errorverse, including their originals seen in Atari 50: The Anniversary Collection. Shovelware's Brain Game is one in the Errorverse, but also has a TV show of its own hosted within Area 15’s Brooklyn. With direct help from in-universe Zen Studios and Williams Electronics / Bally/Midway, Lucia was able to bring tables from the Pinball FX lineup into the OMEGA Universe for people to play, with mandatory censoring in place to keep them family-friendly. new Operating System (or nOS) from RedDeerGames exists in-universe as a legally-distinct OS for computers, albeit with a ton more features than the original game supports. The Looney Tunes cartoons exist as consumable media within the Errorverse, and several movies and cartoons from the lineup are shown commonly in movie theatres.

Errorverse: Tropes D-I (Roleplay) / int_fd4f8299 | comment |
While his motives are understandable, as Neo makes clear, the loss of his world and friends was no acceptable excuse for Error_Code to mercilessly ravage his home, especially since it wasn't Neo's fault he was brought to life to begin with. The Armor-Piercing Question Neo delivers may not be enough to destroy his spite, but it resonates in him for his story’s aftermath after his final defeat.

Errorverse: Tropes D-I (Roleplay) / int_fdc4fab4 | comment |
Depending on the Writer: An in-universe example. In Real World Chaos, Nitro and Amelia learn about MCGamer’s upcoming project, Deception, as well as its Darker and Edgier themes overall. Nitro, not feeling sure that the themes of the story would stick well, had thoughts of creating a Lighter and Softer adaptation of it; all deaths are Adapted Out, and the story instead focuses on the challenges the protagonists face, and the steps they take together to overcome them. IRL Lean was more favoured towards the original, while Ivan agreed that Nitro’s version can allow Liam and Ben to be Spared by the Adaptation with Terry. ‘Course, this doesn't stop MCGamer from going with his idea, though his Ink of Life does bring one of the three into reality prior to this MCGamer’s death…

Corruptor is one to Serpentine throughout ERROR: The Reveal and Executable Revamp, being just as trigger-happy and persistent as the sly snake and even being the instigator of April’s Dark and Troubled Past. TN!Benjamin utilises this trope, preferring the liberty of death over being assimilated into an army. Even when the general of said army tries to force the issue on him by reminding him of his failed escape, it still doesn’t stop him from seeking death, even if it means it allows his Corruption self or Spirit to take hold of his body and curbstomp the army into defeat.
