Lost Girl is a TV series produced for Canada's Showcase Television and aired on Syfy. It revolves around Bo (Anna Silk), a young woman with the ability to control men and women through her touch and suck the life from them with a kiss. She is a succubus, and one of the Fae, a group made up of several races of supernatural entities separated into two sides: Light and Dark. Rather than choosing a side, Bo decides to strike out on her own and learn about her past with the help of a streetwise sidekick named Kenzi (Ksenia Solo), a Fae police detective named Dyson (Kris Holden-Ried) and his sidekick Hale, a beautiful scientist named Lauren (Zoie Palmer), and a wise old man named Trick (Rick Howland). The show was aired on Syfy, with Funimation distributing the series on DVD and Blu-Ray in Fall 2012. It has a webisode series dubbed "Season 3.5."On August 25, 2014, it was announced that the fifth season would be the show's last. The series finale aired (in Canada) on October 25, 2015. It can be streamed from The CW's website.Character specific tropes can be found on the character page. Now has a recap page too.

Between the kitsune's glamour powers and the inflicted doubt, he's not sure that he didn't kill the real Kenzi and he needs Lauren to confirm it for him. He recovers when she does. Bo has one at the end of the episode "Family Portrait" when she finds the bodies of her mother Aife and Trick, both killed by her father Hades

Heterosexual Life-Partners: Bo and Kenzi, in an example of what could ironically be called "playing it extra straight". Sure, Bo is not exactly heterosexual, but they manage to subvert the Les Yay precisely because of that: If there was anything more than friendship between Bo and Kenzi, on this show it would be main text. Nevertheless, the "Same Gender, Always Together" catchphrase certainly applies. When it comes to the question of who counts as Bo's "heart" when it comes to magic, the show is very definative that the answer is Kenzi, rather than either of Bo's love intersts.

Wrong Genre Savvy: Bo laughs off Kenzi's initial belief that she is a vampire, explaining that she feeds on life force, not blood. Somehow, in the ten years she's been on the run, she never considered to simply search the words "Sex-vampire" on the internet, which would have told her that she was a succubus a long time ago. Bo deduces that a lich stored his soul in a portrait and just like in The Picture of Dorian Gray she has to destroy it to kill the lich. When she cuts the picture up with a knife the lich merely laughs at her. Lauren in "Turn to Stone." Once she realizes she's a prisoner of the Fae (again), she quickly deduces that she is being tested. She thinks Hale is her captor, but it's actually the Morrigan.

Chekhov's Boomerang: The Twig of Zamora, appearing at the end of Season 3 and coming back at the end of Season 4. It protects Hale from the Morrigan, and then Kenzi from her. Kenzi trades it to Massimo for Fae powers, and it allows him to survive both falling into a fire pit and Hale's attack… which tragically allows him to kill Hale. Lauren then takes it back from him in "Dark Horse," allowing Bo to kill him.

Depraved Bisexual: The Morrigan. Possibly Vex. Definitely depraved at least… the bisexual part remains ambiguous. By the time his bisexuality becomes clear, he's rather less depraved. Averted with Bo, who is very much bisexual (as well as being polyamorous) but is never depicted as depraved.

Cursed with Awesome: Kenzi certainly thinks Bo's powers are cool. Bo's not so sure. Given that Bo has spent the last decade killing anyone she slept with (and possibly even kissed), she has a good reason to think her powers suck. And that Bo has to regularly kill or else; or so she thought until Lauren taught her otherwise.

All Psychology Is Freudian: Averted. When Bo is posing as a therapist, Lauren recommends that she review the works of several psychologists including Carl Jung, Sigmund Freud, Masters and Johnson, and Alfred Kinsey. While much of what Bo does on the case revolves around her patients' sex lives, that could be because she's a Couples Counselor. And her one therapy session is resolved simply by her heightening and directing the couple's sexual energies at each other.

Sex Slave: Played with. No one ever uses the word "slave" to refer to Lauren, but she does refer to herself as the "property" of the Ash, and for all the influence and prestige she enjoys among the Light Fae, she is clearly a slave. This trope comes into play when the Ash orders her to seduce and sleep with Bo. Granted, she very much liked and wanted Bo, but it's still the case that she didn't have a choice in the matter. Bo still holds it against her for awhile.

Cultural Posturing: All the Fae (except Bo, Trick, Hale and Dyson) seem to look down on humans. Underfae don't get much respect, either. Dyson treats Kenzi with respect, but he's clearly contemptuous of Lauren. Though this may be in part because she's also a slave. Or because he is jealous of her relationship with Bo. Trick actually starts to show signs of it in Season 3. He tells Hale to shut Kenzi out and focus on his duties, citing that ultimately Kenzi is "not one of us." It ends badly. He later pulls it on Lauren, telling her the Dawning (a mystical rite that Bo is going through) is not meant for her kind to understand. She will have none of it and demands an explanation. Hale, possibly because of Trick, is also showing signs of it in Season 3.

Mares feed on the fear generated by nightmares. The Garuda fed on Fae aggression, which pissed him off when the Blood King forced the Fae War to end.

Written-In Absence: Kenzi is on a road trip with her new boyfriend in "Midnight Lamp" and that is made clear right at the start of the episode to explain her absence (and was set up in the episode before). Hale has been largely absent in Season 3, due to K.C. Collins being busy with other projects. The show handles this, by having him too busy with the duties of the Ash to interact with the crew.

Dark Is Not Evil: Dark Fae definitely have worse policies when it comes to humans, and they are the blacker morality compared to the Light, but, just as we see rather evil-acting Light Fae, some Dark Fae are rather pleasant (for instance Ryan) and don't really show any "evil" traits. While Evony (the Morrigan) practically screams "evil bitch" with almost every appearance, she becomes very friendly with Lauren in Season 4. It speaks volumes about how much stronger Lauren has become when it's Evony who later gets back-stabbed instead of the other way around. Vex the sadistic Mesmer is surprisingly becoming more a Jerk with a Heart of Gold as the series continues to show more of his Hidden Depths. Ryan occasionally does business with Lachlan, and doesn't mind helping out Bo and the Light Fae.

Fantastic Racism: Nearly every Fae in the series has a very low opinion on humans. Kenzi is only barely tolerated, because they see her as Bo's property. Lauren is also treated this way, as they see her as the property of the Ash. This gets worse with the 3rd season finale, where the Morrigan manages to manipulate the Fae into deciding that all humans claimed by the Fae are a threat that need to be eliminated. Different kinds of magical creatures have different status in the Fae world, with some being regarded as inferior beings.

Really 700 Years Old

Really 700 Years Old: Fae age a lot slower than humans, so this is true for most of the cast outside of Bo and Kenzi. Dyson talks about his past in terms of centuries, and Shawn in "Fae Day" talks about a dispute he had with his brother in the 1900s. These characters dating the traditionally-aged Bo and Kenzi isn't seen as very unusual by the rest of the cast. Immortal Immaturity: Fae generally don't act any older or more mature than they appear by human standards. In many cases, and especially depending on the type of fae they are, they may seem to act even younger than their apparent age, again at least by the standards of human society. Valkyries in particular have bodies that develop into adulthood relatively quickly, but their minds take longer to keep up, having to assimilate their previous life's memories.

Deus Sex Machina: Sexual contact can heal a succubus, at the expense of her partner. She can also inject a partner with "sexual chi", partially healing them. The BOH-see ahn Ta-LAHV, a mystical ritual binding the Light Fae to a piece of land, requires the Ash to have sex with the Anthropomorphic Personification of the land, thereby consummating a mystical "marriage" to it. Furthermore, the ritual is powered by sexual energy siphoned from the surrounding crowd. This is apparently a common feature of Fae and pagan rituals.

The Good, the Bad, and the Evil
 Lost Girl / int_6b8b122b
comment
The Good, the Bad, and the Evil: The Fae world is divided between the Light Fae (the "Good") who make some token efforts to avoid being completely Selfish Evil, and the Dark Fae who… really, really don't (the "Bad"). But it's all shades of grey, and the real villains are monsters (the "Evil") with no Light/Dark allegiance. An example in "Masks" is the Shaman's horrified reaction to Bo trying to undo all his curses: Discussed by the Blackthorn in "I Fought the Fae (And The Fae Won)." He comments that some of the Light Fae don't think that "Light" is a proper term for them. He acknowledges that Light Fae hunt humans for food, but Dark Fae do it for food and pleasure. It really says something about the show's morality when The Reveal that a high-ranking Light Fae (Lachlan) is actually a good guy and not the Jerkass he appeared to be is a legitimate surprise. The Dark Fae Ryan actually discusses this with Bo at one point, citing Lachlan throwing Lauren in a dungeon as an example of how the Light can be. At Least I Admit It: In "Let the Dark Times Roll," the Morrigan claims the only difference between the Light and Dark is that Dark don't pretend to be something they're not. Kenzi later describes it as "The Light Fae are assholes, the Dark Fae are assholes who know how to have fun."

Meaningful Name
 Lost Girl / int_6bda9a30
comment
Meaningful Name: "Bo" sounds like "Beau", which means beauty. It may also be intended to be a backhanded reference to Little Bo Peep, only in this case Bo has lost her family and not her sheep. Interestingly enough, her birth name is Isabeau, after her grandmother, Trick's wife. A title rather than a name, but the leader of the Dark Fae is given the title of "The Morrigan" which refers to the Celtic Goddess of war and strife. It translates as "phantom queen" or "great queen". When a Fae reaches a high enough political position, they assume the traditional title of the position as their name. So if a Fae is only referred by his/her title, it means that you are dealing with someone really powerful. Generally, Dark Fae are named after great warriors, while Light Fae are named after sacred trees. Inari was the name of a Kitsune fae. She was named after Inari, the Japanese deity of, among other things, foxes.

Masquerade: The Fae have been manipulating—and been a part of—human civilization since the beginning, but usually have kept themselves hidden, and have worked hard to make humanity believe that they are just myths. There are more or less three levels: The underfae, for those who can't mix with humans at all; they get discriminated against by the other Fae. The majority of Fae can pass as human at least part of the time, and usually have positions in the human world that let them use their talents, like cops, art agents, or night club owners. In between, there's also a black market fae economy that humans can get to easily, though they're not welcome, like the Dal (Trick's bar).

Immortality Bisexuality: Downplayed, but there seems to be a bit of this going on. Human Kenzi explicitly says she's straight in the first episode, and Lauren seems pretty strictly lesbian, while there are quite a few bi fae ladies—Bo, the Morrigan, Tamsin—and on the male side, Vex. In the fae world, no one raises an eyebrow at all the girls Bo kisses, but while undercover in the human world, Bo once awkwardly mentions her girlfriend Lauren under the name of Lawrence. Initially, Bo tries to keep her distance from Lauren, as she hasn't figured out how to fully control her drain-life-via-sex powers, and "feeds" off Dyson fairly regularly because fae have more life to give, so she can feed without killing him. As the series progresses and Bo learns to control her powers more (and various characters' dark secrets start coming out), the situation develops into a full-blown love triangle, with jealousy, betrayals, suspicion, and angst. In one memorable scene, Bo turns her love triangle into a riddle—a trick question one.

Wham Episode: Episode 3x12 "Hail, Hale"—Lauren is suckered into helping a ring of humans who are trying to steal/acquire fae powers by kidnapping fae, one of whom is Dyson. Hale's tenure as the Ash is cut short by a vote of no confidence engineered by the Morrigan. Hale declares his feelings for Kenzi. Fae-aligned humans are declared terrorists and sentenced to death, starting with Kenzi. Bo discovers that Tamsin is working against her, even as she has been shot and is bleeding out while trying to find Lauren and Dyson. Trick is kidnapped. And it turns out that one of the human conspirators' prisoners is Bo's mother, Aife, who is suffering serious Sanity Slippage. Also season 2 episode 13, Barometz Trick Pressure, in which we meet Season 2's Big Bad, the Garuda, meanwhile Bo attempts to assassinate Lachlan, only for him to reveal that his Jerkass behavior has all been an elaborate act to test Bo, after which he asks her to be his champion in a war against the Garuda, which he knew all along was coming. "End of a Line". As if the episode title wasn't foreboding enough, Hale—the heir of the Zamora clan—is Killed Off for Real. It's made so much worse in that the entire episode emphasized how little death mattered when several dead Fae are raised as revenants, and that Massimo, Hale's killer, survived due to possessing the Twig of Zamora.

Played with. Whenever Bo hooks up with a random female playmate, it seems mainly just for titillation, which actually works since she's a succubus. Our Fairies Are Different: All supernatural beings in this world, even vampires, succubi, and werewolves, are subtypes of Fae. There are also more traditional types of Fae such as banshees, Will-o'-the-Wisps, etc. Most types of Fae prey on humans in some way, whether by feeding on emotions, Life Energy, body parts/fluids, or even by draining the luck from humans. There is also a kind of Fae called a Fairy (this is what Ciara is). They're apparently good warriors and can teleport.

Laser-Guided Karma: Both averted and played straight in the episode "Big in Japan." Musashi is revered as a hero for winning a major battle long ago, a bit of an arrogant playboy spending money as he hooks up with various women. He's about to ascend to the head of his clan and recieve the power of his ancestors and asks Bo to find out who's trying to kill him. It turns out to be Musashi's sister, Tomoe but for a good reason. She was the one who won that battle long ago and when people assumed it was Musashi (being the elder son), she let them do so out of honor, not knowing her brother would turn so arrogant. She's just discovered that if Musashi attempts to ascend to the clan head under such a lie, he'll be cursed into a demon who literally licks toliets for eternity. Knowing he'll never admit the truth (he's come to believe his own lie), Tomoe is now trying to save her brother from such a horrible fate. Played straight as Bo and Tamsin help Tomoe prove at the ceremony that she was the hero and Musashi confesses he's been taking the credit all these centuries. He tries to kill Bo but she manages to recover and Musashi discovers that once it's known he's a cowardly fraud, no one wants anything to do with him. He's also forced to spend the next century or so working a menial job at the family resturant to pay back all the clan money he spent on himself.

Take a Third Option: Bo chooses to side with neither Light nor Dark Fae. It's made clear that this may not be the best idea. In general, this is Bo's default course of action whenever presented with a Sadistic Choice. In episode 3.08, Bo is offered two tarot cards to choose from, but she chooses neither. Instead she picks a card from the deck. In episode 3.09, Bo is supposed to leave Dyson behind in the Temple, since two people can enter the Temple, but only one can leave, but she chooses to take him through the portal and bring him back to life. In addition to the Light and Dark sides, some people (like Dyson) are more closely allied with Trick, AKA The Blood King and ancient ruler of the Fae.

"Not So Different" Remark: Another human uses this on Lauren at one point. He talks about being a human in the Fae world leads to you being hated and ignored, and then a Fae comes along that treats you well and may even love you, and how you'd do anything for them. All of which she can understand. The fact that he's talking about this while viciously beating her makes it a particularly uncomfortable example. comment
Mind Control: Several types of Fae have some form of this power. The character Vex, who is a type of Fae called a Mesmer, can turn pretty much anyone into one of his People Puppets. Bo can do this at a Charm Person level using her succubus powers of attraction, while older, more experienced succubi such as Saskia/Aife can enslave people to the point of creating a small army of enthralled humans who are willing to die for them. Bo later learns how to do this. There seems to be a wide variety of ways for the Fae to manipulate humans. The Seniatta is a type of Fae that can change a human's inner motivations by touch. It is implied that some Fae know how to make potions that can cause different effects, such as erasing or rewriting memories. In the season 2 finale, Bo somewhat reluctantly binds Dyson, Hale, Val, Vex, and possibly Lauren and Kenzi to her with her blood. This doesn't make them mind-controlled by her per se, but prevents them from dissenting from her instructions (and therefore prevents the Garuda from causing them to fight each other instead of him). It has the marked risk of making her possibly go power-mad and corrupted, however.

Double-Meaning Title: At first glance, it's easy to assume Bo's the "Lost Girl" and leave it at that. As the series progresses, however, it turns out every other main character is "lost" in their own ways as well. Just to stay within the title's constraints, Kenzi, despite being claimed by Bo and a human with an inside track into Fae affairs, can never shake off the feeling of being on the outside looking in due to her powerlessness. And Lauren, having been swept up into the Fae world unwillingly, can't decide whether she can stand to be forever bound to the Fae or to be free and lose the family she's found with them.

Happiness in Slavery
 Lost Girl / int_a58802b7
comment
Happiness in Slavery: Lauren is the property of the Ash, leader of the Light Fae, but is generally content with her lot in life. She finds her scientific research into Fae physiology to be intellectually rewarding, and her medical expertise, and the fact that she is owned by the leader of the Light Fae, gives her a fair amount of prestige and influence among the Light Fae. She is unmistakably a slave, however. The happiness part of the trope may be in decline under the new Ash. The Ash also never openly refers to Lauren as his slave. However, Lachlan, the new Ash, refers to Lauren as "chattel" and his property, to Bo's fury. Possibly being deconstructed in the later seasons when we find out that she actually joined the Ash to keep her girlfriend alive and to have a chance at curing the girlfriend's mysterious ailment, and it's later revealed that the Ash ordered her cursed to obtain Lauren as his slave in the first place. She also later admits to Bo that the five years she spent as slave have been rather bleak for her; and considering how reserved she is, that probably means horrible. And made worse with Lachlan manipulating Bo into curing Nadia and making it look like he did it, making Lauren grateful enough to willingly pledge herself to him. This comes to a head near the end of season 3, where the most recent Ash (Hale) still looks down on her and bosses her around, forcing her to go Screw This, I'm Outta Here. Most Fae think that Kenzi also falls into this category since they consider her to be Bo's property. It does not cross their minds that Bo considers Kenzi to be an equal.

Ms. Fanservice: The whole show runs on Fanservice, but some of the female characters are notable even in such an environment: Bo shows a lot of cleavage, wears tight clothes, and has plenty of lingerie scenes and nude scenes. Justified in-universe since she lives off sexual attraction. Tamsin usually wears tight, skimpy or see-through clothing and deliberately sexually provokes Bo. The Morrigan likes to play The Vamp and dresses accordingly. Kenzi doesn't show very much skin (except for some cleavage) but likes to wear corsets and other fetish-style clothes as outerwear.

This Is My Human: Various fae are shown essentially declaring humans to be their property; Lauren is essentially a slave to the Ash, and Bo had to “officially claim Kenzi as hers to protect Kenzi from being preyed on by other fae (even if Bo and her fae allies all accept that Kenzi is Bo’s friend rather than her property). Some fae appear to just employ humans in a more formal manner, such as the Morrigan running a talent agency where she feeds on some of her clients but none of them appear to know what she is. One episode saw a case where a human father had adopted a young fae where his son didn’t know what he was; once the two came in contact with wider Fae culture, Dyson convinced Lachlan to allow the boy to remain with his human father.

Canada Does Not Exist
 Lost Girl / int_c0965210
comment
Canada Does Not Exist: The show makes absolutely no effort to hide the fact that it is filmed in Toronto (the accents, all those shots of the very distinctive TTC streetcars, and a few incidental glimpses of the CN Tower being dead giveaways), but this, or even which country or province the city is in, is never made explicit. In one episode Bo makes multiple visits to a woman on death row. The first time she goes, it is implied that she crosses the border (there is no death penalty in Canada). Afterwards she is back home but then she visits the prisoner twice more on the same day, which would make for a lot of commuting since it is about a 2 hour drive to the nearest border crossing from Toronto. Check the currency and the flag in the trailer park in the second episode… When street intersections are mentioned, we get things like "University and Dunkirk." The one cop-shop we hear mentioned is not "39th Precinct," but rather "39th Division." One episode showed a realtor's sign on the lawn of a house; the phone number had a 416 (Toronto) area code. The Canadian Accents are a bit of a giveaway. In particular, they pronounce "Lich" to sound like "lick" instead of like "Rich," even going as far as having Kenzi mistake the word for "lick" when she first hears it. A sign in a restaurant window in the first episode reads "LLBO," which means the Liquor Licensing Board of Ontario (advertising that the restaurant sells alcohol). After a joke about a Fae black market, Kenzi complains that Cherry Coke is hard to find, which is true in Canada. When Kenzi joins Bo on a mission and reveals she's tipsy, Bo comments that it will ruin her candidacy for the Young Conservatives, meaning not young people with conservative values in general but the official Youth wing of the Conservative Party of Canada.

Win Your Freedom: The stag of the hunt to decide the new Ash can win his or her freedom by ringing the bell, with all prior crimes being wiped away by their participation. The contestants for the title need to kill them before that. Condemned Contestant: Trick states the game is designed so that the stag won't win, and no stag ever has. They try to make it easier by having Hale, who won't hurt her, be one of the hunters. They also have her lover, who can turn invisible be there to help. Ape Shall Never Kill Ape: Fae apparently aren't supposed to feed off each other, as that what's humans are for. Given that no one objects when Bo does it, it might be that either succubi (and the like) are excluded from this due to their "enjoyable" methods of feeding; or that Fae simply aren't supposed to kill each other by feeding. Once again, that's what humans are for. Used as a plot point in the Season 3 finale, where Taft has had Lauren turn him into a hybrid with wolf-Fae DNA. He then claims that Dyson can't kill him, as they are blood brothers. Dyson reveals Lauren actually made him half-human and half-cabbit (a rabbit/cat hybrid), which a wolf can definitely kill.

comment
Shout-Out: In "Oh Kappa, My Kappa," Kenzi's reaction to having to wear all pink to infiltrate a sorority house is to growl at Bo "Me hate you long time." "I Fought the Fae and the Fae Won" has a twofer. First, Bo's refusal to give up on protecting Sabine prompts Kenzi to groan "I wish I knew how to quit you." In the very next scene, Trick explains how all the candidates for becoming the new Ash will meet at a location known as "the Gyllenhaal"—and Bo deadpans "Which one? Jake or Maggie?" In "Scream a Little Dream," Kenzi greets the hotel doorman/client by modeling his hat and quipping "This is the platform to Hogwart's?"—and Bo apologizes "Don't mind Tina Not-Fae here." In "Mirror Mirror", when Bo finds out that she has been cursed she says "Shazbot". In "Lachlan's Gambit", Trick fills Bo in on some disturbing animal behaviours: In the third season finale, Kenzi gets to drive the Morrigan's sports car. In the same episode, after sending Trick and Stella off to Scotland, Hale leaves saying he has to "see about a girl." The image symbolizing The Wanderer is a minimalist version of Wanderer above the Sea of Fog by Caspar David Friedrich with a sunbursts added at the top right. The episode "Waves" provides numerous references to two Disney movies: all that Kenzi knows about mermaids seem to come from The Little Mermaid, whilst Bo and Rayner's relationship shown in flashback is basically a Whole-Plot Reference to Beauty and the Beast. The Lich's dying speech sounds like a creepier version of Roy Batty's from Blade Runner. The singer's story from "Of All The Gin Joints" is (fittingly) one to Casablanca. In "Like Father, Like Daughter," before Bo has to navigate a Laser Hallway, Kenzi suggests calling in Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Series Continuity Error

comment
Series Continuity Error: The series has always been kind of loose with continuity, but it gets REALLY bad in Season 4 to the point it blatantly contradicts itself from episode to episode. Season 5 tries to clear this up with mixed results. Pretty much anything to do with The Wanderer falls under this trope. Season 5 borders on Continuity Snarl - some particularly egregious examples include the show giving Tamsin wings in a prior lifenote forgetting that Valkyries only have wings in their final life, having multiple characters state they have no idea what happens when there is no Ashnote despite the role of the Ash changing hands four times over the course of previous seasons, and Dyson's insistence that Mark must declare for the Light Fae and avoid the Darknote completely ignoring the fact that Dyson declared allegiance to Bo, who is unaligned, in the season 4 finale.

Red Herring: One of these is bound to turn up in the mystery-based (ie. not arc) episodes. How well they're presented varies. Some examples: While investigating the disappearances of girls from a college in "Oh Kappa, My Kappa," Bo and Kenzi suspect the sorority and the uptight dean to be involved. It's really a security guard feeding girls to his kappa. The creepy landscaper in "(Dis)Members Only" is suspected to be the landwight fae Bo and Dyson are looking for. Turns out it's actually the resort's chef. In season 4, the Wanderer is frequently teased to be a possible candidate for Bo's father. It's outright disproved in a very surprising scene.

He tries to kill Liam, but Shawn takes the bullet for him, thus proving the banshee right. In the Season 3 finale, Lauren agrees to help Dr. Taft if he gives her the tools she needs to save an injured Fae, a cabbit.

There's something about that position… Even Trick being employed by the Una Mens as acting Ash. In contrast to his previous treatment of Bo, he starts becoming intentionally vague with his answers. Distracted by the Sexy: Effectively Bo's superpower. Bo herself falls victim to it in the Season 2 premier, when she enters a club where the people have a very high sexual energy. Subverted when Bo's powers don't work on Lachlan. Subverted when another Fae in episode 5 of season 1 turns out to be immune to Bo's powers, but only because she's still young. He openly states that if she had more power or control, he wouldn't be able to resist her.

comment
Easily Forgiven: S1: Averted; Bo is deeply hurt when it's revealed that Lauren was ordered to sleep with her and ignores her apologies and attempts to explain. The revelation that Trick and Dyson were also lying to her seems to be what motivates Bo into forgiving her. Kenzi is seemingly still holding a grudge in Season 2. S3: Everyone refused to listen to Bo about Kenzi being kidnapped. Subverted in that Bo admits it will take a while for everything to be forgiven. Double Subverted in that the next episode, all is forgiven, and she never mentions anyone's ignorance which nearly caused Kenzi to die in captivity. S3: After breaking up with Bo, Lauren leaves the Fae, seeming to side with Taft. Of course she used her position to betray Taft. Despite breaking Bo's heart several times, the first time they meet in S4, Bo has forgiven her completely. S4: Lauren seemed to reject Bo again, and additionally kept secrets about her plans with the Dark. But after one fight and Lauren getting captured by Massimo, Bo has completely forgiven her. S5: Lauren and Bo get back together again in S5, but again Lauren breaks up with her because of their different lifespans. It only takes one conversation at the series finale for them to rekindle their relationship.

Fanservice Extra: The show features many scenes with female (and some male) good-looking minor characters having sex. Often, they're with Bo, given she's a succubus, but not always.. Even when fully dressed, many of the women show a lot of cleavage (sometimes of the Navel-Deep Neckline kind). Some handsome men are also shown with their shirts off as well and in tight pants.

comment
The BOH-see ahn Ta-LAHV, a mystical ritual binding the Light Fae to a piece of land, requires the Ash to have sex with the Anthropomorphic Personification of the land, thereby consummating a mystical "marriage" to it. Furthermore, the ritual is powered by sexual energy siphoned from the surrounding crowd. This is apparently a common feature of Fae and pagan rituals.

Dark and Troubled Past: Several of the main characters. Bo spent 10 years on the run, thinking she was a monster, and forced to kill to stay alive. Kenzi had a very abusive stepfather, eventually ran away, and spent years living on the streets. Lauren hints at one. When Kenzi talks about how she had a normal upbringing, Lauren emotionally responds that Kenzi doesn't know anything about her. It's later revealed that she and her brother were eco-terrorists, until they unwittingly killed several people with a bomb they created.
