Some games can be fine with picking from the list of Video Game Settings for their backgrounds. But for something a little more unique, each one could be tied to a certain character in the game's ensemble cast. It's especially convenient if the stage is named after the character. In multiplayer, there's usually nothing stopping players from picking anyone for any arena. But if scripted, expect a fight or race with characters on "their" field. Mostly a Fighting Game or Sports Trope, but not exclusively. Also usually has nothing to do with Home Field Advantage, since in these cases in doesn't matter who's on what stage. Do not confuse with a Boss Battle at the end of a video game level. (Unless that level is a stage itself that can be played on normally or if the boss is a playable character.) Exceptions could be listed if the game does something clever with it. Compare a Leitmotif, for the musical equivalent. Even one character having one stage is enough to qualify for this trope. |

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is interesting because, though there's still a stage for specific franchises, some series' takeover the stage, meaning a few can "share" a level. note Kat, Dante, Emmett Graves, Isaac Clarke, Fat Princess, Heihachi and Toro avert this by not having their franchises represented in a stage at all. Kratos (and technically Zeus) has Hades, which gets invaded by Patapon. Ratchet & Clank have Metropolis, but gets invaded by God of War. Sackboy has Dreamscape, which gets invaded by Buzz!. Jak and Daxter have Sandover Village, which gets invaded by Hot Shots Golf. Colonel Radec has Invasion, but gets invaded by Ape Escape. Cole and Evil Cole have Alden's Tower, but gets invaded by Sly Cooper. Nathan Drake has Stowaways, but gets invaded by Bioshock (Infinite) Sly Cooper has Paris, but gets invaded by LittleBigPlanet PaRappa has Dojo, but gets invaded by Killzone. San Francisco from Resistance is a subversion as that series has no playable character, until it gets invaded by Ratchet and Clank. Spike has Time Station, which gets invaded by Resistance along with several others. Raiden downplays this as Metal Gear has no main stage, but instead his home series invades Franzea. Big Daddy has Columbia but gets invaded by Twisted Metal. Sweet Tooth has Black Rock Stadium, but gets invaded by Jak And Daxter. In DLC, Nariko has Fearless, which gets invaded by WipEout The second DLC batch gives Sir Daniel Fortesque The Graveyard, which gets invaded by The Unfinished Swan. |

A good few of Crash Bandicoot's racing games have featured some tracks based on and named after certain characters in the series. For Crash Team Racingnote Fake Crash, Penta Penguin and N. Tropy are the only characters not to have a home track, though it's generally accepted among the fandom that Blizzard Bluff serves as this for Penta, which would eventually become official in Nitro-Fueled: Crash Cove for Crash. Coco Park for Coco. Polar Pass for Polar. Tiger Temple for Pura. Tiny Arena for Tiny. Dingo Canyon for Dingodile. N. Gin Labs for N. Gin. Cortex Castle for Cortex. Roo's Tubes for Ripper Roo. Papu's Pyramid for Papu Papu. Dragon Mines for Komodo Joe. Hot-Air Skyway for Pinstripe. Oxide Station for Nitros Oxide. In Crash Nitro Kart's case, certain tracks serve as this for the boss characters as that's where they're fought against in their respective challenges. In Order: Jungle Boogie for Krunk. Deep Sea Driving for Nash. Out of Time for the two Normsnote this would also become N. Tropy's home track in Nitro-Fueled as well due to the clock and time-themed similarities both the character and track share. Android Alley for Geary. Hyper Spaceway for Velonote and by extension, Real Velo too. Interestingly, Tiny Temple is this for Tiny, which at first makes it stand out compared to the other tracks which have no such theme. This actually foreshadows Team Cortex's ending, where they accidentally find themselves stranded on Terra where it's revealed that the natives there worship Tiny. The remake of the former game, Nitro-Fueled, has all of the above as well as introducing extra tracks with every Grand Prix and redesigning some of the old tracks to better fit with the characters. Some of the more notable ones are: Blizzard Bluff for Penta Penguin. Slide Coliseum for Ami, Liz, Megumi and Isabella. Out of Time for N. Tropy. Twilight Tour for Tawnanote kinda; the official Twitter account for the game lists it as her signature track. Prehistoric Playground for Baby T and Fake Crash. Spyro Circuit for Spyro. Nina's Nightmare for Nina. Koala Carnival for Koala Kong. Megamix Mania for Megamix. Drive-Thru Danger for Nitros Oxide. |

Primal Rage: Each of the beasts have a stage representing a certain part of the New Urth. Sauron gets the Cove, a craggy, sandy beach that was once the Greek islands in the Aegean Sea. Talon gets the Strip, a grassy stretch of land dotted with trees and small waterfalls that used to be an airstrip. Vertigo gets the Tomb, a burial ground for Vertigo's petrified enemies that was once Stonehenge. Blizzard gets the Cliffs, a temple set in an icy and mountainous tundra near the Himalayas. Chaos gets the Ruins, the...ruins of what was once a thriving metropolis before the cataclysm. Armadon gets the Hollows, a series of underground ramiform caverns existing eons ago. Diablo gets the Inferno, a volcanic atoll created by a geothermic upheaval ten times as great as that which formed the Hawaiian islands. |

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order has each of its stages explore a different part of the Marvel universe. Each stage features a different portion of the playable roster, and in most cases it's where the related characters are unlocked to play as. The story starts out in space, where the Guardians of the Galaxy are mucking things up again. A prison break led by the Sinister Six features the Spider-Man characters. Ms. Marvel is also featured here, being grouped with fellow teen Spider-heroes Miles and Gwen. Though it should be noted that it's the big exception to the "characters join in their home stage" rule, as the Avengers are called in midway through in order to open up the playable roster. A Hand ninja temple led by the Kingpin is the feature stage for Daredevil and similar street-level heroes like Iron Fist and Luke Cage (collectively labeled "The Defenders" after the then-recent TV adaptation). Avengers Tower features team members that don't get featured elsewhere such as Iron Man, Wasp, and Hawkeye. The X-Mansion is, naturally, home to the X-Men (and Deadpool). The Dark Dimension is navigated by the supernatural and mystic-themed heroes: Dr. Strange, Scarlet Witch, Ghost Rider, and Elsa Bloodstone. Attilan is home to the Inhuman royal family and puts a spotlight on Crystal. Wakanda features the Black Panther; but it also involves Storm (who has ties to the country) and characters related to Captain America like Cap himself, the Falcon, and Black Widow. The realms of Hel and Asgard revolve around Thor and Loki. As the endgame Boss Bonanza, Knowhere stars the villains and all of the heroes get to say a line or two as well. But even so, some of the heavy-hitter Avengers like the Hulk and Captain Marvel get their moment to shine here. The DLC epilogue chapter features the Fantastic Four, but it also serves as a surrogate home stage for the other DLC characters and gives them small appearances so they have at least some story presence. |

Hyrule Warriors A few characters from the first game carry battlefields over from their debut games. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time brings that game's version of Death Mountain and Lake Hylia for Darunia and Princess Ruto, respectively. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess uses the Temple of Twilight for Midna and Zant, while Twilight Field can count for Agitha's. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword uses Skyloft and Sealed Grounds for Fi and Ghirahim respectively. Valley of Seers and Temple of Souls both count for Cia's. Legends includes The Forsaken Fortress with The Wind and Earth Temples for Tetra, King Daphnes, Toon Link and Medli. The sequel, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity continues this. Though unlike the previous one, this game takes place in only one game of the franchise, so the character's home stage is more literal, both for promoted characters and ones who are unlocked later. Link, Zelda, King Roam and to a lesser extent Impa have Hyrule Field and Hyrule Castle. Zora's Domain for Mipha and Sidon. Death Mountain for Daruk and Yunobo. Tabantha Frontier for Revali and Teba. Gerudo Town for Urbosa and Riju. The Yiga Clan Hideout can count for Master Kohga Hetsu is obtainable after Great Hyrule Forest. |

Marvel vs. Capcom: Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes Marvel has Avengers Headquarters, Blue Area of the Moon, Rooftop of the Daily Bugle, and Onslaught. Capcom has Dr. Wily's Military Base, Headquarters of Evil, Honda's Bathhouse, Live House of the Dark Realm, and Neo St. Petersburg. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 averts this, as most of the backgrounds have nothing to tie them to either company. Though: Swamp's unlockable alternate version is considered SonSon's home stage, as it has a lot of Chinese imagery and elements befitting of her Journey to the West origins. Desert is considered Amingo's home stage, by virtue of it having his poncho and hat hanging on a cactus. Airship is Ruby Heart's home stage, since it is set on the deck of her Cool Airship, the Partenaire. The Temple, being the Final Boss stage and the place where Abyss was sealed, is his home stage. Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Marvel has Hand Hideout, S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier, Asgard, The Daily Bugle and, technically, Fate of the Earth. Capcom has Metro City, Tricell Laboratory, Demon Village, and Kattelox Island. Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite takes a new take on this by combining Marvel/Capcom locales to make up its stage list, making them home stage to two characters/series: New Metro City, A.I.M.BRELLA, Knowmoon, Valkanda, Dark Kingdom and Xgard, with Avengers Tower and Abel City - Sigma's Lab being exceptions. |

Mario Kart 8 ensures every character gets at least one track in time trials. Toad Harbor for Toad Twisted Mansion for Luigi, and as of the Updated Re-release of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, it is also associated to King Boo. Shy Guy (the red one) gets Shy Guy Falls. Larry Koopa is usually associated with Electrodrome because of the DJ stand. Roy Koopa is associated with Wii Grumble Volcano. Every other Koopaling is associated to a track nodding to their respective locations in Super Mario Bros. 3 for time trials: for example, Wendy is associated with Dolphin Shoals, a beach related track, while Lemmy has GCN Sherbet Land, a snow and ice track. Mount Wario for Wario Bone Dry Dunes for Dry Bones as of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. The DLC track Dragon Driftway is associated with Lakitu. Hyrule Circuit for Link. There's guaranteed to always be at least one "Bowser's Castle" and "Mario Circuit" in every Mario Kart game. But there's plenty of other racetracks themed or named after most of the main characters throughout the series (not counting the retro tracks unless it is a special circumstance): Super Mario Kart credits associate the eight final version of the tracks to one character: Luigi has Mario Circuit 4. Peach has Donut Plains 3. Yoshi has Ghost Valley 3 Bowser, obviously, has Bowser Castle 3. Donkey Kong Jr. has Choco Island 2. Koopa has Koopa Beach 2. Toad has Vanilla Lake 2. Mario has Rainbow Road. Mario Kart 64 Peach gets Royal Raceway. Toad gets Toad's Turnpike. Wario gets Wario Stadium. Luigi gets Luigi Raceway. Donkey Kong gets D.K.'s Jungle Parkway. Yoshi gets Yoshi Valley. Mario Kart: Super Circuit: Bowser gets no less than four Bowser Castle themed tracks. Peach and Luigi both get a circuit named after them. Yoshi has a desert related track with a sphinx to his glory. Considering each track's picture on the menu, you can also associate Toad to Sky Garden and Broken Pier, Wario to Ribbon Road and Lakeside Park, or Donkey Kong to Riverside Park and Cheep-Cheep Island. Mario Kart: Double Dash!!: Luigi Circuit for Luigi. He also has his own battle course, Luigi's Mansion. Peach Beach for Peach. Baby Park for Baby Mario and Baby Luigi. Daisy Cruiser for Daisy. Waluigi Stadium for Waluigi. Yoshi Circuit for Yoshi. DK Mountain for DK. Wario Colosseum for Wario. Mario Kart DS: Yoshi has Yoshi Falls. Luigi has Luigi's Mansion. Waluigi has Waluigi Pinball. Shroom Ridge is usually associated with Toad. DK has DK Pass. Wario has Wario Stadium. Peach has Peach Gardens. Mario Kart Wii: There's yet another version of Luigi Circuit. Toad gets Toad's Factory. DK gets yet another snow mountain racetrack with DK Summit. Wario has Wario's Gold Mines. Daisy gets Daisy Circuit. Koopa Cape for, of course, Koopa Troopa. Dry Bowser is commonly associated to Grumble Volcano, probably because it mirrors his living counterpart's track. Dry Dry Ruins is usually associated with Yoshi, probably because of the sphinx with his face. Rosalina gets associated with this game's Rainbow Road. While Funky Kong lacks his own track, he still has Funky Stadium, his own battle course. Mario Kart 7 Toad Circuit for Toad. Daisy Hills for Daisy. Shy Guy Bazaar for Shy Guy. Wuhu Circuit and Maka Wuhu for the Mii characters, for obvious reasons. Wario gets Wario's Shipyard. Apart from the usual Castle track, Bowser also has Neo Bowser City (Koopa City in PAL versions of the game), though it can also be associated to Metal Mario. DK has DK Jungle. Rosalina has Rosalina's Ice World. While Koopa Beach is from Mario Kart 64, it is impossible to not associate it to Koopa Troopa now that he is a playable character again. The Animal Crossing track is one for both the male and female Villagers and Isabelle. In Deluxe, the battle course Urchin Underpass is obviously one to the Inklings. Mario Kart Tour gives Petey Piranha the course Piranha Plant Cove, which features several statues and drawings modeled after him. Note that, despite its name, Piranha Plant Pipeline is not his (it's not even named after Piranha Plants in the Japanese version, which insteal calls it Warp Pipe Canyon). |

Mario Tennis All of the original game's unlockable courts are themed after double teams (except Donkey Kong's) with the Mario Bros, Wario & Waluigi, Baby Mario & Yoshi, and Yoshi & Birdo. The rest of the unlockable courts with a single character requires the Transfer Pak for when certain minigames are completed in the Game Boy Color version.) Mario Power Tennis has a Luigi's Mansion court, as well as ones themed for Wario, Donkey Kong, and Bowser. Inferno Island takes place around Bowser's Castle in Mario Tennis Aces. |

Overwatch has some maps that are associated with certain playable characters. Junkertown is where Junkrat and Roadhog used to call home before becoming social pariahs, and where Wreckingball made a name for himself after escaping from the moon. Château Guillard is the family home of Widowmaker. Echopoint: Antarctica is the research outpost that Mei was stationed at before going into cryostasis (and being the only one to emerge.) Black Forest is a battle-ruined village in Germany where Bastion was reactivated close nearby. Eichenwalde is Reinhardt's home stage in Germany King's Row, London, is where Tracer lives. Hollywood, USA, isn't associated with any characters in particular, but Reaper was born in Los Angeles. Route 66 in the USA is where the Deadlock Gang calls home. McCree was a former founding member before leaving while Ashe is the current leader. Numbani (Nigeria) is where Doomfist and Orisa originated from. Dorado in Mexico is Sombra's home stage. Castillo in Mexico is an old military fort overlooking Dorado. It's the home of the Los Muertos gang and Sombra's actual base of operations. Horizon Lunar Colony is where Winston and Hammond originated from. Watchpoint: Gibraltar is Winston's current base of operations after having left Horizon Lunar Colony. Hanamura in Japan is the home of estranged brothers Genji and Hanzo and their Shimada estate. Nepal is where Zenyatta and his sect of Omnic monks call home. Genji also took up residence here for a while in his backstory, and his room can be accessed by characters with the mobility to explore the map. Busan, South Korea is where D.Va and her MEKA squadron call home. Oasis (Iraq) is the home of Moira, who resides as the Minister of Genetics as appointed by the council of scientists who run the city. Volskaya Industries in Russia is where Zaria calls home. The Temple of Anubis in Egypt is where Pharah and Ana call home. Necropolis in Egypt is where Ana and Soldier:76 use as a base of operations while they hide in exile. Lijiang Tower in China is Mei's home stage. |

Unreal Tournament III has a particular approach to their levels: each of them takes place in a particular area and belong to a particular faction which the player gets to fight (either against or as) in the Campaign: Levels set on Tokaidonote DM-RisingSun, DM-ShangriLa, CTF-Reflection... belong to the Izanagi Corporation, which backs the Ronin team, the leader of which is The Protagonist (and hence the Player Character, though the other three members can be played in Cooperative mode). Levels set on Oxida Novanote VCTF-Kargo, WAR-Torlan, WAR-Downtown, DM-Diesel... belong to the Axon Research Corporation, which backs the Iron Guard team. Levels set on Hyperionnote DM-Arsenal, DM-HeatRay, DM-CarbonFire belong to the Liandri Corporation, which backs the game's version of The Corrupt, simply named "Liandri". Levels set in the planet Omicron-6note DM-Sanctuary, DM-Sentinel, WAR-Floodgate, CTF-Vertebrae... belong to the Phayder Corporation, which backs the Necris Black Legion team and, by extension, the Krall team. |

Sega Superstars: Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing: To save us a long list, there are three tracks based on Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg, Samba de Amigo, Jet Set Radio, Super Monkey Ball and House of the Dead. (All having at least one controllable racer.) Sonic the Hedgehog has three courses based on three areas from Sonic Heroes, for a total of nine. There's a greater variety of Sega tracks in Transformed, but again, not every playable character has a specific stage tied to their series. For example, there is a track based on Burning Rangers, but no characters from that game are playable. |

In The Fairly OddParents! episode "Totally Spaced Out", Mark Chang from the Proud Warrior Race planet of Yugopotamia challenges Timmy to dit'chafatt — er, death combat. In each of the rounds, the combatants are allowed to choose their own home stage with an advantage to themselves. Mark chooses a flat war arena on his home planet where there's no place for Timmy to dodge his Giant Mecha's attacks... on purpose, anyway. Timmy chooses Flappy Bob's Happy Peppy Learnatorium, a daycare he'd been checked into — chosen because the Yugopotamians' biggest weakness is that Good Hurts Evil, and to Mark, that place is saccharine enough to be equivalent to a torture chamber for him.

Though the mercs from Team Fortress 2 avert this themselves (with probably the closest being Degroot Keep, with its connections to the Demoman's family name) but the game's Scream Fortress bosses count, as all of them would show up in other community made maps during the years to follow the original Halloween events. The Horseless Headless Horsemann was first fought at Mann Manor, MONOCULUS was the hazard for Eyeaduct, and Merasmus was fought at Ghost Town. If you really want to push it and count stage hazards as characters, the Ghost (Zepheniah Mann) was first seen on Event Harvest, and the skeletons/the Skeleton King was first used on Helltower.

Games in the Soul Series sometimes define home stages, and sometimes they don't. Even games that don't, however, have some recurring locations associated with specific characters — for instance, the Money Pit is always associated with Voldo, and Eurydice Shrine is always associated with Sophitia and Cassandra. Most pronounced in Soul Edge / Soul Blade, where all stages and all characters are encountered in Arcade Mode. Setouchi - Pirate Fortress, for Mitsurugi Jirisan - Old Temple, for Seong Mi-Na, and bonus character Seong Han-Myeong Shrine of Confined Demons, for Taki Yangtze River - Three Gorges, for Li Long Money Pit - The Secret Treasury, for Voldo Eurydice Shrine - Arena, for Sophitia Ostrheinsburg Castle - War, for Siegfried Silk Road - Ruined City, for Hwang Unknown Land, for Rock The Black Tail Inn's Remains, for Cervantes Catastrophe, for Souledge (Inferno) Most stages were shared between characters in Soulcalibur II, but Eurydice Shrine - Gallery was spelled out for Link by making it play an arrangement of the Legend of Zelda main theme when he's fighting on it. This is the only time in the series that the background music changes based on which characters are in the match — even fellow SC2 Guest Fighters Heihachi and Spawn don't have anything like this. Soulcalibur V is the first entry since Edge / Blade to have one stage to one character, spelled out by the default music tracks for those stages having the matching character's icon.note The exceptions are Dampierre, who is Downloadable Content — he's fought on Free Imperial City Center in Arcade Mode if owned — and Devil Jin, which is a bonus fighting style only usable on custom characters. Ancient Citadel - Peacetime, for Z.W.E.I Ancient Citadel - Under Siege, for Siegfried Unknown Forest, for Viola Unknown Forest - Dark Night, for Raphael Free Imperial City Center, for Patroklos Free Imperial City - Old Quarter, for Pyrrha Denevér Castle - Assault, for Nightmare Denevér Castle - Eye of Chaos, for Pyrrha Ω Tranquil Wasteland, for Tira Last Rites on the Battlefield, for Hilde Mt. Even most of the recurring locations are largely absent. Replica Kaer Morhen, for Geralt City Ruins - Eternal Apocalypse, for 2B Gairyu Isle, for Haohmaru |

Unreal series: Unreal Tournament and Unreal Tournament 2004 have the Hyperblast level, where Xan Kriegor, the ship's owner, is fought, and in both cases, Xan is unlocked as a playable character after beating the level in the games' single-playernote In 2004's case, there's the additional requirement of The Corrupt being the best placed of all the Godlike-tier teams at the end of the Team Ladders, though the other two Team Leaders -Malcolm and ClanLord- can also be unlocked following a similar method. Speaking of 2004, the Assault levels are reenactments of past events, and some of the teams that fought in those events have a 33% chance of being fought in these levelsnote For reference, the 12 teams of the Tournament are divided in four tiers: Weak, Tough, Strong and Godlike, the game picks up a team of a defined tier at random, the Weak-tier teams are eliminated after the Team Qualification round, and while the player can choose any skin of their liking, unlike UT, they cannot canonically play in any of the teams: AS-Convoy is a Strong-tier "N.E.G. vs. Hellions" match, and there's a chance the player can fight against the Strong-tier Hellions team. AS-Glacier is a subversion: it's an "Axon vs. Izanagi" match, with the Izanagi side being represented by the Thunder Crash team, usually affiliated with the N.E.G. However, the match belongs to the Strong tier, a tier below Thunder Crash's Godlike tier, and while Axon has representation in the Tournament via the Weak-tier Goliath and Strong-tier Juggernauts teams, the player cannot play with any of these teams unless they have a full Juggernaut roster and the player chose a Juggernaut character, and even then it's impossible to recreate any of these teams. AS-Mothership is a "Humans vs. Skaarj" match, belongs to the Godlike tier, and there's a chance the player can fight against the Godlike-tier Iron Skull Skaarj team. AS-RobotFactory is another subversion: it's a "Liandri vs. The Corrupt" match, however it takes place in the Tough tier, two tiers below The Corrupt's Godlike tier, not to mention... the Liandri Corporation itself is backing the The Corrupt team. |

In The Simpsons Wrestling, each character has a stage they're guaranteed to be fought on in the league modes: Power Plant for Homer. Kwik-E-Mart for Bart and Apu. Evergreen Terrace for Lisa, Marge and Flanders. Downtown for Groundskeeper Willie and Professor Frink. Krustylu Studios for Krusty and Bumblebee Man. Barney's Bowlarama for Barney. Moe's Tavern for Moe. Mr. Burns' Mansion for Smithers. Smithers can only be played as here, and only as Player 2. Spaceship for Kang. Kang can only be played as here, and only as Player 2. Itchy 'N Scratchy for Itchy and Scratchy. Though the two can only be used there, and only against each other. |
