Originally appearing as the "B" segment in the A-A-B Three Shorts format of Cow and Chicken, I Am Weasel became a self-contained Spin-Off in 1999 shortly before the main cartoon's run ended, running for 79 episodes from then until 2000. When both shows ended and were put in reruns, they became their own separate shows, including frequent character crossovers (some of the Cow and Chicken shorts were later repackaged with the standalone Weasel shorts). The show centered around a polite, hypercompetent, socially savvy weasel named I.M. Weasel (voiced by Michael Dorn) in his daily life attending to many people's needs. Weasel is incredibly accomplished in countless fields, including medicine, law, politics, music, science, and more. And behind him is his frenemy, the extremely dim-witted I.R. Baboon (Charlie Adler), who is envious of Weasel's talents and is constantly plotting to ruin him. Weasel is aware of this, but remains pals with Baboon anyway, possibly because he realizes Baboon is far too stupid to pose any real threat. After the first season, the Red Guy from Cow and Chicken also joined the main cast.Consult the Cow and Chicken page for a recap of I.M. Weasel episodes.

I Am Weasel / int_1869b4b1 | comment |
Unreliable Narrator: The episode "My Blue Hiney" did a strange origin story for both I.M Weasel and I.R. Baboon (Baboon is a no-talent comedian and Weasel is a country singer who often comes to Baboon's rescue). It had an unidentified narrator with a somewhat deep Southern accent. At the end of the story, his voice drastically changes and he's revealed to be Jolly Roger, who of course made it all up.

Artistic License – Geology
I Am Weasel / int_1a5bba2b | comment |
Artistic License – Geology: In "The Hole", Baboon plugs up the titular hole, only for the planet to explode because it's a "ground-level volcano." Surprisingly, this is actually similar to how real-life supervolcanoes work, such as the one under Yellowstone National Park - there are no mountains formed by them, but instead a massive magma bubble builds up underground, and thanks to being "plugged up" much like what Baboon did, the pressure buildup leads to incredible amounts of damage when it does erupt.note In fact, one that erupted 75,000 years ago at Toba in Indonesia nearly wiped out the human race. However, there is no "hole" for one to erupt out of, and while the eruption would be devastating, it would certainly not result in the Earth-Shattering Kaboom seen in the episode proper.

Breaking the Fourth Wall
I Am Weasel / int_1e7487cd | comment |
Breaking the Fourth Wall: In "I.R. Mommy", the Red Guy is surprised that Supercow has found him in an I Am Weasel cartoon (this was his first appearance in I Am Weasel). After discovering that the entirety of "I.R. Wild Baboon" happened to be a dream that Cow had, Weasel begins to tell the viewers that they should wake him up. In "My Blue Hiney", after it is revealed that the events of the story were completely fabricated by Jolly Roger, Weasel addresses the viewers to explain that the events of the cartoon they just watched are false and to forget what they have watched. "I Am Whale Captain" ends with Red Guy showing up at the very end, complaning that he was not featured in the episode and states his contract was violated, only for him to technically have appeared, meaning that the contract is still kept intact. A few episodes ends with Weasel (and in one occassion Baboon) wanting the episode to be over since they already have suffered enough. The short "How to Draw Weasel" has Weasel demonstrating the viewers how to draw him, he does this by jumping right in front of the screen so the audience can trace him properly. Baboon notices this and removes Weasel from the screen and wants the viewers to draw him instead. They then start to argue until the runtime is over.

Took a Level in Kindness
I Am Weasel / int_3dcc914f | comment |
Took a Level in Kindness: Baboon was pretty much always portrayed as the antagonist in the early episodes, but later episodes show him being more civil towards Weasel. In fact, the two are actually friends for much of the series from that point, with the antagonist role pretty much goes to The Red Guy. The Red Guy himself is much friendlier and less of a threat here compared to Cow and Chicken where he psychically harms the titular duo and tries to kill them (mostly Chicken). On I Am Weasel, he's mainly portrayed as an ally or is just overall harmless, with the worst thing he's doing is trying to scam Weasel and Baboon. That said, Weasel and Baboon aren't safe from being grievously injured by him on occasion, such as having falling anvils repeatedly dropped on them in "I Am Cliched".

Characterization Marches On
I Am Weasel / int_479f9ad0 | comment |
Characterization Marches On: I.R. Baboon was much more overtly antagonistic towards Weasel in the earlier seasons, usually trying to (unsuccessfully) upstage or sabotage him. Once the Red Guy was transplanted from Cow and Chicken, Baboon and Weasel started gravitating towards Vitriolic Best Buds. Weasel himself also was far more heroic and incorruptible until he became a Broken Ace Only Sane Man that shared the suffering with Baboon despite his efforts. The creator has said that they are best friends, they just act like enemies.

Butt-Monkey: I.R. Baboon (more noticeable in the early seasons). Quite literally, too. Lampshaded in "I Are Terraformer" in which a robot beats up Weasel several times for trying to terraform a planet without joining the Robot Union. Baboon then laughs at Weasel and states that he is usually the one who gets hurt all the time.

Freeze-Frame Bonus: The dictionary◊ Baboon is reading in "Ping Pong at Sea" is filled with gag descriptions of words starting with "W". It also includes a Shout-Out to Dexter's Laboratory. In "I.R. Some of the books◊ at the beginning of "I.R. Gentleman's" are titled "The Feisses", "Wances", "The Steeles" and "How to find your own Mum". "The Feisses and "The Steeles" are reference to creator David Feiss and Season 1 director Robin Steele. In "I Am My Lifetime" the names of the babies◊ in the nursery room are Donnie Watson, Scottie Morse and Davey Feiss. This is a reference to background colorist Don Watson, art director Scott Morse and series creator David Feiss. In "Driver's Sped", you can spot Cow◊ inside a bus when Baboon is speeding across the city. In "I Are Good Dog!", we can see a quick glimpse of the letter◊ Baboon wrote to Timmy after he ran away from home, complete with terrible grammar and letters being in the opposite side. It reads "Deer Tinmy, I are running qway 4 FR Bekawz Y Loving Weezil More. I.R Baboon". The book "When Weasels Attack" from the episode "Enemy Camp" is written by Nora Johnson, named after a writer/storyboard artist of the show. The newspaper◊ that Baboon is reading at the beginning of "Baboon Man and Boy Weasel" has a headline that reads "Man finds greeny thing in his nose, is it an Alien?". This is difficult to notice when watching the episode due to Baboon reading the newspaper upside down and is constantly moving. "I.R.'s First Bike" has Baboon getting hit by a plane when trying out his gyroscopic-powered bike, the name of the plane is Facial Air. "A Troo Storee" shows Red Guy also wrote a book: "Red Like Me". The cover, of course, features his butt. The same episode also features a book called "My Life" written by Narc Erry, which is a reference to Marc Perry, a storyboard artist of the show. Vague Age: Unlike Cow and Chicken where the characters have set ages (Cow being 7 and Chicken being 11) the ages of Weasel and Baboon are inconsistent. According to his Hero License in "I.R. Rodel Model", Weasel is 2 years old while Baboon stated in "I.R.'s First Bike" that he is 40. This doesn't make sense as there are some events that took place in the 1960s and 1980s, where Weasel wouldn't have been born yet and Baboon being much younger. "I Am My Lifetime" depicts Weasel and Baboon in High School and College together despite the massive age gap and where they look exactly the same as they do as adults.

Shout-Out: The demands that Baboon has to fulfill for the French-Canadian Beavers in " I Am Ambassador" includes a copy of The Friendly Giant, Mr. Dressup, Rocket Robin Hood and 1960s "The New Adventures of Pinocchio". The asp motel in "Queen of Denile" has a sign that reads "Free HBO". "Unsinkable I.R." has a scene where Captain Baboon is rotating the ship helm while whistling. "I Am Cliched" features parodies of A Wild Hare, Wile E Coyote And The Roadrunner and The Young and the Restless. "Who Rubbed Out Cow and Chicken?" is one to Who Censored Roger Rabbit? with a similiar story of figuring out who's erasing the characters. "Leave it to Weasel"'s title is a direct reference to Leave It to Beaver. "The Sorcerer's a Dentist" is a reference to the Sorcerer's Apprentice segment in Fantasia, with Weasel wearing a cloak and hat similiar to the one Mickey Mouse is wearing. The baseball game that Weasel and Baboon are watching in "Take I.R. Out to the Ballgame" is the World Serious game The same episode also has Baboon climbing on top of the baseball gate with his arms hanging out while shouting "I.R. King of World!". The hotel "I Are Bellhop" takes place in is called Rump Plaza Hotel. Red Guy's alias when he gets hit by a lighting in "I Am Franken-Weasel" is a Southern woman named Scarlett O'Hiney.

Can't Live with Them, Can't Live Without Them: In "I.R. in Wrong Cartoon", Weasel goes to live with Cow (from Cow and Chicken) after she fishes him out of the TV. At first Weasel enjoys his new life since Cow feeds him all the pies he can eat. When they decide to watch TV to see how Baboon's doing, at first he's excited at the idea that he has his own show now that Weasel is gone, but quickly comes to realise that he doesn't want to do a show without Weasel and cries out for him to come back.

Back to School: in the episode of the same name, Weasel and Baboon had to return to third grade because of a typo. If they don't, Weasel won't be allowed to keep his Nobel Prizes and Baboon won't be allowed to keep the banana he got as a consolation prize. Weasel's tendencies to overcomplicate third-grade questions made it hard for him but they eventually passed. However, someone pointed out another typo, showing it was the fourth grade they hadn't finished. It was revealed the Red Guy was the typist.

Dumbass Has a Point | |

Dumbass Has a Point: Baboon is dense as a sack of hammers, but even he gets it right sometimes. In a "A Troo Storee", Weasel has to hire Baboon to write a book for him which he believes will make people smarter. When this goes as well as you'd expect, this exchange occurs: Baboon's point is later proven when Weasel, not wanting to be the only smart person in a world of idiots, read the book and, although was less than impressed with it, it didn't make him any less intelligent. It was just everybody else was already that stupid and he didn't notice until now. In "I Bee Weasel", Baboon has to communicate the location of a bed of flowers through dance. After repeatedly getting bees killed with bad dancing, Baboon asks Weasel why he can't just tell the bees the location of the flowers verbally. Weasel concedes the point and proceeds to tell the Queen.
